Wow! That's some nice carving you did on that 'tooth'?
But anyway, I really dig it! It looks really evil and fits in with the chaos dwarf theme. I would love to see the end result on this one!

Keep it up!  :smile2:

I saw the early pictures, but had no idea of the scale you were making it. Especially evident when looking at the Dwarf...

Wow.

Keeping all information about this project in the one thread I think would be great, for completeness, and as ease of reference.

Your carving work looks fantastic.

Can't wait to see whats next. Thanks for posting this Marcus

Hey all,

Just a quick progress report on the Chaos Dwarf project. I have been working on the tower. The photos are not the greatest, but good enough for WIP.

Here it is with a couple of arrow slits cut in and the stonework laid out.

The two front faces carved.

This is certainly the most sculptural piece I have worked on.

Next is the lower wall, which stands proud of the tower wall, and the stone dwarf faces.

What is the material you use? I've been looking for a way to get a detailed and accurate wall texture without having to spending hours sculpting the pattern on the surface  :|
(I've considered both texured plasticard and those little plaster molded blocks(can't remember the name) but they're expensive and I have to order them from another country)

Isn't it great when you can make a model for less than the price of a cup of coffee instead of having to pay GW $30.00 for their version.

Hey All,

Here is another update to the Chaos Dwarf mining complex! I have finished the lower walls on the tower, and carved the first nine faces.

This is a shot of how the tower will stand in relation to the main hall of the complex.

Front shot. At this point the crenellations have just been cut out and placed atop the wall to show how the wall will eventually look. They are not carved yet.

Opposing angle.

This is a view to the back of the tower. You can see where I have cut in the door to the tower. The door is not up high on the tower as it appears. The main floor/courtyard will be at this level. Teb’s drawings show the complex projecting from the face of a mountain. Think of the top of the wall as being half way up the mountain.

Faces on the side of the tower.

Slightly different angle to show depth.

Faces to the front. It was somewhat of a challenge to come up with nine different faces using that same basic shapes, but they are different enough. A repeating pattern would have been ok, but I think the individual faces add more character and just look mo’ better.

Again, a slightly different angle too show a little depth. The last two shots are some close-ups for those interested.

Next, I think I am going to work on the two smoke stacks coming out of the tower.

Looking Great Marcus. The faces add a LOT of character, and I really think they were required on a terrain piece like this.

I'm loving it. Well done.

I don't know whether it's tiresome for you to hear praises all the time - but that's outstanding. What impresses me most is the texture you are giving to the surface. It's exactly the right amount from my point of view: enough to make for a withered look, but not so much that it is over the top.

It's really the details that make this thing great in my opinion, like the rounded edges that look as if they were flattened by wind and weather during the course of the years. Or the texture on the lower blocks, indicating that they are a different kind of stone without any paint showing it.

Marvellous work.
