Rod of Power
« on: June 17, 2009, 07:30:44 PM »
I like the Rod of Power and use it in every army list. I would love if it would go down to 25 points and allow a dispel scroll to be right along with it.

Any thoughts?

My thoughts are GW balanced it at 30 to stop you using DS with it.
And I think it is fine as is.

It's fine like it is.
I agree with the inhumane treatment of animals.

The fact that you use it in every list is indicative that it is pretty good. Why would we need to improve it further?

Yup, I think so too. I wondered why it was 30 myself for a time too, but then this came up.

Just take a LVL 2 with the ring of volans.

I've got to agree, I think it is great as is. I had never taken it prior to a game I played last weekend against my friend's Wood Elfs, and I love it. I never really thought it would be that good, but I can see myself taking it almost all the time now.

My only thought with regard to 8th Edition is that the rod will almost certainly be gone or significantly toned down. The trend in 7th anyway has been to take the "always use" items and make them near useless whilst making the less popular options more attractive.

The rod certainly doesn't need to get any better

The problem is not that the Rod is too good for the points, it's just an item that is ALWAYS useful. How often do you see one of those?

I think its fine at 30; its only taken all the time because of the prevalence of bound spell spam and one-dice casting.  Before the release of VC I never took the RoP.  Now though, I spam the hell out of it.

They might just do what they did with the Lizardmen Diadem of power, keep it broadly the same but only allow it to "convert" dice one way or the other, for example turning dispels into casting dice, but not the other way round.

I say keep it as is. I think the whole point of it being 30pts is to stop people taking a scroll.

I really hope they don't change it at all.

I'd just like to see it be able to store the wizard's own dice.

Why? There is no need for that- just use the wizard's dice first.

No, that is indeed impossible- now I see your point.
