1000pts vs beastmen
« on: February 12, 2011, 08:49:39 PM »
Otto Von Scheele quickly moved his army into position outside the hamlet of Brunhorf.  For weeks there has been sightings of foul beastmen in the thick woods of his land and the count had lead his force in pursuit of them across the length and breadth of his domain.  Finally he had met found his quarry and was ready to put down the foul chaos filth.

Knowing that such creatures believed in shows of strength and power Von Scheele’s tactic for the upcoming battle were two fold.  Firstly he would bolster his force with a regiment of local irregulars, hoping that a larger looking force would intimidate his foe, secondly he would aim to strike down the colours and leader of the herd, breaking their spirit and, thus, fighting ability.

Otto’s force finally arrayed itself for battle.  His own bodyguard, the 13th regiment of sword held the centre of the line.  Their banner, depicted the regiment’s slaying of the great Wyrm Zshoa, would help the army hold their nerve.  On his right were the famed 26th regiment of halberds the Steel Bulwark, their history stretching back to the Great War against chaos, where they held the line against the chosen of Mor’slaa.  To his left were the irregulars, the 216th Kirnhoven irregulars, kept close so he could ensure they wouldn’t run.  He also had a patrol of the 96th PistolKorps with him.  The young knights to be and their outrider master hid themselves to his far right, behind a wooded hill, ready to spur forwards and engage the enemy.

On either flank Otto placed his war machines.  The left held the Mortar Morr’s rain and the left his prized engine of war the helblaster Isabella’s Ire, named for his wife and her viscous temper.

His cousin Werner Von Scheele had also joined his force, a recent graduate from the colleges of magic and Otto had entrusted his safety to the steel Bulwark.

Otto’s army waited but for half an hour before the foul beastmen showed themselves.  Directly opposite his force a herd of the foul creatures appeared, surrounding what could only be their leader.  His back mounted trophy racks holding the skulls of many a man.  Next to this herd Otto noticed a pair of the subhumans carrying some fiendish weapon.  Further to his right Otto noticed some war machine that the beasts had constructed.  It appeared to be made from the wheels of two water mills and was surrounded by a crackling halo of eldritch green lighting.  He quickly made a cutting motion towards the fell machine and the PistolKorps started galloping towards it, hiding their intention behind the wooded hill.

Just as he was feeling secure in the easy victory a cry went up from the irregulars.  They had spotted another herd of the foul beast men, moving through the forest before them.  This herd was also supported by an evil looking contraption held by two of the pink tailed beastmen.  Worst still a pair of mutated Ogres were also spotted in support of them.

The battle was joined as the PistolKorps fired a fusillade at the enemy war machine, as it spun towards them.  Their shots hammered into its’ woodwork to no visible effect.  In return the lighting surrounding it lashed out and smashed one of the young knights form the saddle.  Otto then raised his sword, Ogre Bane high and then swiftly cut it downwards, signally the start of the bombardment.  Morr’s rain fired a great arcing shot that smashed into the ground meters ahead of the beasts that were leaving the forest.  Whilst Isabella’s Ire failed to fire, just like his beloved wife, the war machine could be sulky and uncooperative.  Werner then brandished his graduation ring and a massive fireball leapt forth and incinerated a beastman, though his subsequent spell was whisked away on the winds of magic, before he finished the last syllable.

The sudden sound of horses screaming in fear and pain echoed across the battlefield and Otto cased his gaze towards to sound, just in time to see the enemy war machine smash into the PistolKorp, crushing them under wheel, before driving off into the distance.  However he could afford to be distracted as the enemy moved closer.  To his left the sergeant of the irregulars ordered his men forwards into a holding position in front of the mortar, to stop the ogres from charging it.  Realising what they were doing Morr’s rain’s crew adjusted the trajectory of their mortar and fired again.  This time their shot was true and landed in the midst of the foul beasts killing near a dozen of them, as well as the crew of the evil looking machine moving along side.  This was too much for the herd and they fled, despite the curses of the banner waving chieftain.

Werner’s graduation ring yet again fired off a searing fireball, at the other, approaching herd, killing several of them.  He was then able to harness the flames licking at their accrued bodies to summon up a flurry of additional fireballs that slammed into the herd.  Killing many, yet failing to break their spirit.  Not to be out done, Otto aimed his duelling pistol at the two man machine next to the herd and fired a supreme shot.  Hitting a vital component, of whatever weapon they carried, wreathing the crew in green fire.

Otto barely had time to reload his pistol before the herd before him smashed into his bodyguard.  His shot smashed through the rat like skull of a beastman moments before the herd smashed into the disciplined ranks of the Wyrm Slayers.  Ogre bane slew 2 of the fouls creatures, and his guard cut down a further two, for the loss of three of their own.  However the 13th’s mass of men proved too much for the foul creatures and they broke and run.

Looking to his left Otto saw the Ogres smash into the irregulars, their massive paws smashing men dozen of feet through the air.  Yet they were spurn on my the presence of their lord and slew one of the beasts and held their nerve, despite the hideous loses they had suffered.

Otto shot one of the fleeing beastmen in the back, before ordering his guard to move to assist the irregulars.

The enemy war machine suddenly appeared over the brow of the hill.  Its’ speed making it leap several meters into the air, as it smashed down into the ground the halo of lightning suddenly vanished and an explosion blossomed behind the machine, accompanied by squeals of pain.  Maybe the valiant PistolKorps riders had damaged it.  Sensing a chance the crew of Isabella’s Ire fired off a three barrel volley at the machine and it was pitched over and exploded into kindling.

Morr’s Rain fired again, at the recently rallied second herd and blasted apart a dozen vile beasts.  Werner also continued his magical arts and reduced the fleeing beasts to just a handful and their warchief.

In an act of heroism the irregulars slayed the second ogre and started attacking the beastman that had goaded them into combat.

The beastman’s warchief’s herd continued to run whilst the second herd returned to the fray, running back towards the irregulars, as they hacked down the creature before them.  Barely one in 4 of them remained, but they remained steadfast and ready to fight.

As Otto closed on the remaining herd Werner finished the guard of the beasts warchief, searing their flesh with fireball after fireball.  He then turned and uttered a series of arcane words and a cage of fire appeared around the remaining herd.

The crew of Isabella’s Ire set their sights on the fleeing form of the enemy warchief and fired off three barrels at it.  The warchief was reduced to a thin mist, showing all that a noblewoman’s scorn is deadly indeed.

The final beast herd, trapped by magical fire, broke apart.  Some charged the imperial lines and the rest fled.  Most were burnt to ash by magical fire, others were hewn down by strong sword arms.  The few that chose to flee, including the chieftain with the herd’s banner, were soon killed by mortar and magical fire.

Nice victory against the "beastmen." Hope to see more such victories agaisnt the wretched, foul "beastmen." I have a "beastmen" player at home I may have to beat up on.
Much like Communism, a level three wizard is a waste of everyone's time and will, in due course, fail miserably.

Thanks, but what do you mean “beastmen”?  All beastmen are beastmen, there are no “beastmen”.
I did feel bad in the battle.

My opponent took:
Warlord with some magical stuff
Chieftain with banner that made me -1Ld within 12”

20 clanrats with shields and light armour
   Warp fire thrower

20 clanrats with shields and light armour
   Warp fire thrower

2 rat Ogres with a masterbred

Doom Wheel

I had

General with full plate, pistol, Ogre blade and dragon helm

Lvl 2 fire wizard with Ruby Ring of Ruin

20 Halberdiers with shields and full command

20 swordmen with full command and standard of discipline

20 militia with sergeant and musician

5 pistoliers with outrider and musician

Mortar

Helbalster

Because of the Doom wheel I castled in the corner and blasted him before he made contact, except for the valiant counter charge of the irregulars.

Beastmen are the army that looks like goats and bulls. The thing you played were Skaven (ratmen).
Just another imperial minotaur.

There are no such things as skaven.  Anyone who talks about these "Skaven" are insane.  The things called skaven are just a type of beastman.

To assume that they are their own race, with techno-magical weaponary is the talk of madness.
