I don’t like the stance of the originals as they’re too alike, to have so many in a unit would look odd I think - unless you got these to pull your siege cannon in this month’s painting competition.

But as I’ve got 6 of them myself  I also look forward to what you do with them, particularly if you do a few conversions –  otherwise it’s the Ankh-Morpork Dressage and Formation Heavy Dragoons?

I'll be converting them up a bit - mixing and matching the halves and so forth - so they shouldn't be too similar (and, of course, there are only two poses in our current armored horses!)

I have just placed an order with Tiny for bases for this project, and am waiting for eBay stuff to sell so I can buy more components!

But I did manage to source these . . .

Is Greek style, yes. They are worried about the Germanic empire taking 10% of their money, though.

Bits company on eBay - I fear they may have scuppered themselves, though. They were selling many different horses and other animals from GW kits but were selling them separately; one order for the bodies, another for the heads. Doubtless, this was an attempt to generate more revenue - but it worked out perfectly for me! Now, alas, that company has 10 Hurricanum horse heads . . .

That we KNOW of.

Very nice work here, I would normally be jelly, but It would only mean more work that I wouldn't do, so I'll pass on that particular emotion. Can't wait to see these finished.

Darknight – how are you progressing with the horse conversions?  I’ve just been having a look at my six and have realised that a simple swop of halves doesn’t work – result is one tail-less horse and one with two tails that also needs work to fix together – so any advice or examples to show what you’ve done so far.

I've not done anything with them except the one you see (and some preliminary work on one other) but I have thought about how I am going to do it.

I am going to cut the rumps off, following the line between the barding and the saddle, moving around the chainmail. I think a good sharp no 11 and a razor saw will enable me to do that. Then, the fronts and backs can be swapped.

I will have nine models in my unit, so I will have five (three of one, two of the other) standard and four "swapped".

I think it should work fairly well - not as good as having more variations, but that will give me four variations, which is all you get with the existing Heavy Cav horses from GW.

Thanks – I hadn’t fully discounted this method but as it isn’t a straight cut trying to avoid it.

Looks like I’ll go for the normal variations of 2 original builds, 2 swopped side halves (will need a little work to remove and transfer a tail but will give the obligatory rearing stance) and 2 swopped front and back halves.

As I’ll only need 5 the non-rearing one of the swopped sides will probably go for spares as I don’t like the stance but we’ll see how it all goes.

I might be inspired to do some half-swapping too, to give a bit more variation. I'll get some pics when I get around to it.
