Air brushing and what is the best one for a decent price
« on: October 20, 2011, 09:50:28 PM »
Hello all.  I am looking to buy an airbrush to finish off my necrons.  What is a good airbrush?

How hard is it to get good coverage?

The Iwata Eclipse series is one of the best on the market.

As for how hard it is to get good coverage, that's a matter of practice makes perfect.

I have a Paasche airbrush I bought about 10 years ago and have never used. My friend has first dibs on it, but now he's waffling. If he doesn't want it, it can be yours for a reasonable price plus shipping.

I'll look up the details when I get home.

Hey yeah Ace, let me know!

I just think I could save a ton of time on my necrons with an airbrush.  It takes me about 45 minutes each right now, but with an airbrush I would cut that to 20.

I too am looking into possibly getting an airbrush. In a related topic, what would be recommended for the Compressor? I'm totally new at this and am looking into different options. What's a good brand/type, regulator, reservoir, ect?

Hello,

Because everyone has an opinion my suggestion is to take 31 mins and 2 secs and watch this video.

As for coverage. I agree you get better with practice and once there wont have coverage issues. All depends on how well you get with the brush as with any thing in life. :-)

Philly, did you get my PM? For some reason it doesn't show up in my Sent so not sure if it was actually sent.

This is gonna sound stupid... but in what way is an airbrush a good tool for painting miniatures?

Kind regards

Got it ace. Likely yes!

Airbrushing is great for vehicles terrain and necrons. Saves gobs of time.

Yeah I thought about using it for the 40K buildings i have sitting in the garage, but who am I kidding--i'll end up doing them by hand. I wouldn't say I'm lazy because I do a fair amount of painting - I just never think to set up the airbrush. And the 30+ 40K vehicles I have are all mostly painted so no need there.

Hey Philly, can you do me a favor and respond to my PM because for some weird reason whenever I send you a PM it doesn't show up in my Sent Box like it has with other people's PMs in the past.  I'm curious to see if it will show up when you respond. Post in here when you do just so i know that you've sent it. Thanks.
