This spring I started painting anew, after a hiatus of two years. The result of four months:

A big THANK YOU for this community and the 2015 painting thread for inspiring me to get back to the hobby!

It's Stirland, the army is a result of an RPG campaing, and I'm counting roughly 4,000 pts atm. More pictures of old & new completed units with some back stories may find their way here (but no promises).

Three games are planned. I'll probably lose all of them, because there are no STanks, Warchicken, cavalry hammers or Halberdier hordes in this army, and I don't fancy magic, and I'm gonna wield those Handgunners. (Actually, my army doubles as a semi-historical renaissance troop from about 1520.) But the deployed armies should look good, and my opponents are great, so it's so worth it.

Nice army, now show us some close-ups!

Is it a skeleton unit I spot in the upper right corner? Are they for Lore of Undeath purpose?
cheers,

The onepose skeletons are more like enemies of the Stirlanders. I just painted them to get into the mood of painting one evening. Yet the campaign has seen Stirlanders to join forces with the undead to fight a greater enemy, an Orc horde. Very problematic decisions. Heretical, one might say.  ::heretic::

The two Hakenbüchse in the middle are my own modifications:

The left one is scratch-built, the right one is a Hochlander straight from the box. I couldn't find a reasonable use for a gun of such length as a personal weapon, so mounted it on a bipod and made it a team weapon. I can use the two as a proxy for a single cannon, or use them individually either as Hochlanders or unit fillers.

Crappy photos of the troops (not just those painted this spring) can be found behind THIS LINK HERE. Some photos of artillery conversions can be found HERE, and my struggles with sculpting are partially documented HERE.

I used to have a plog in here years ago, but though I'd just start a new one.

Quiet for some time...

I've been working on upgrading a group of houses I bought many years ago.

Mainly adding window shutters, windows & doors, and chimneys. Still work to do.

Then, a clever local guy started a painting competition to make people paint more. This week's task is to paint with a narrow palette. Dunno what that really means, but I took it as painting with few bottles of paint. So, I'm painting these, and getting close to finishing them:

Slightly modified 6th ed metal Flagellants. They can double as Warrior Priests, if need be. Over the next few weeks, I should paint three figures a week.

And here's my Pleasant Surprise I got from 023.  :::cheers:::

A perfect fit for my army! Crisp, warm painting too, and a flag that will teach me how do more.  :-)

I'll do the base and post another shot when it's finished.

Those large bases with guns remind me of Jezzail teams, but for us. Awesomessauce.
Now go! Ride towards the sun atop these noble steeds
You're our spandex heroes, now fullfil your destinies
And so we turned and rode beyond the castle walls
with shiny codpiece armour that doth cradle our chivalrous balls

I recognize a couple of them from the Watchtower (window and plastic chimney).

There was some talk of the Hakenbüchse when I was making them. Here's a LINK to my first tinkering thread on this forum. I think I should take photos of my gun park as it stands now.

Stuff I'm using to upgrade the house group:
- The factory made grey plastic bits are GW Watchtower.
- The green chimney is Green Stuff.
- The white window frames on the 1st floor are handmade from plasticard.
- All wooden pieces are thin wooden sticks cut to size. I ordered a couple of hundred some years ago, and they come scalewise pretty close to 1" x 6" planks in 28mm, fitting many purposes, and are easily cut narrower.

Also, it seems I've finally understood how simple it is to take reasonable photos: don't mess with the camera settings, and don't use the one-button Photobucket editors. KISS.

When I have the time, I'll take some better shots of the figurines.

Progress:

The painting competition forced me to mix the skin colour. And this proved to be quite nice, as I mixed it perhaps ten times, getting nice hues on the skin. Also, needed to focus on how to get different combos out of essentially red, yellow and various hues of brown.

Some things are less than perfect, but I'm calling it a day.

Here's a picture of the modifications made to the classic Flagellants. This work was done already in February. Ten months in the cue is no time at all at my speed. (That kitbashed crewman should also see paint this year, hopefully.)

There they go: the unit is now boosted to 30.

Flagellants and painting individuals made me think of Mordheim, and other old Skirmish games. This modified Witch Hunter (new pistols from the Pistolier set) is originally from Warhammer Quest, and one of Citadel's best takes on the theme, methinks. Painted two and a half years ago.

Here's an additional photo of my Flaconette, with a crew of two and an Engineer. The poor Stirlanders had to hire a Talabheimer to hit something. Painted three or four years ago.

hahaha, I have an Estalian / Spanish army.  Spanish Inquisition was notorious for frying witches and other heretics....   :icon_biggrin: I don't have any witchhunters painted yet, so maybe my remark was tomuch...

Those flagellants are great! In the first picture I really thought they were original GW miniatures I hadn't seen before, your conversions are so seamless!
I nearly went googling to see if I could find out more about them as I wanted some in my army! Alas for me that they're your own excellent conversions.

Love the flaggies,

I have 50 , 5*10 ,,,,

haven't used them in 8th , since the nerfing ,

Ask yourself , what is real? 5 sense filtered reality is a very limited perspective.
