Re: The Ankh-Morpork City Watch (Army) - Sergeant Detritus

Sergeant Detritus – The original sculpt was made after seeking permission from the artist Paul Kidby to make and display it on the web; which was given provided it wasn’t used in a commercial way. Now that Mirco Art are making their (to me useless) commercial versions of Paul’s art work and the fact I felt our model was a little too small I have made him a bit taller with a few detail changes.

Re: The Ankh-Morpork City Watch (Army) - Ruby
« Reply #131 on: April 24, 2017, 06:39:11 PM »
Ruby is Detritus’s wife. She was originally made at a sculpting workshop given by one of the ex-Clarecraft sculptors, Mark Alying. It wasn’t a planned event so the figure was made from memory without any reference material; hence she is slightly oversize and doesn’t look anything like the Paul Kidby drawing she was supposed to be based on. The outfit however was very like a Discworld Cosplay (although not of Ruby) seen on the Web at that time and so she was kept and finished as this costume. She is another reason why Detritus had to be taller.

Constables Downspout and Pediment. They are gargoyles and spend their time sitting still on look-out duty on roof tops. They are paid in pigeons. It is rare for them to come down any lower than the 1st floor of a building so it must have cost a lot of pigeons for you to see them today.

For those of you who have seen the film ‘The Hogfather’ you may recognise the actual props from the film they are based with.

Re: The Ankh-Morpork City Watch (Army) - Acting-Constable Cuddy
« Reply #135 on: April 25, 2017, 06:37:08 PM »
Acting-Constable Cuddy - He made Detritus’s cooling helmet. In the original book cover painting done by Josh Kirby, Cuddy doesn’t have a beard, so I had to give this figure a shave. When he died on duty he was buried without the customary arrangements – he wasn’t buried with funeral weapons to defend himself from any entities found in the afterlife. Not really required because Dwarves don’t believe in them, but they may unfortunately (for them) believe in Dwarves. When Carrot ‘killed’ the Gonne he placed it in Cuddy’s grave.

Sergeant Cheery Littlebottom - the first dwarf on the force to openly admit to being female leading to the use of make-up by some members of the force and also the welding of high heels onto boots. She is a trained alchemist and started the Watch Forensics Department.

Constable Brakenshield – Due to Dwarf-Troll animosities he likes a long handled axe to ensure he can reach a troll’s head.

Sergeant Fred Colon

Corporal Cecil Wormsborough St. John Nobbs - he has a certificate to prove he is human and a fondness for weapons although if you’re in a fight, he won’t be.

Fred’s well past retirement age so he’s got the experience of 50+ years of military type service and fashion styles to know what he’s comfortable in.

Captain Delphine Angua von Uberwald – Carrot’s girlfriend for most of the month but at full moon she’s his …….                She has a bag, of spare clothes and mouthwash, with handles that can easily be gripped by someone with a muzzle.

This figure is so like Angua on the original ‘Men at Arms’ book cover that she has been painted as such rather than trying to make her match the unit. Another tribute to the late Josh Kirby.

Lewton – became a private investigator after being thrown out of the force for taking a bribe. He can be found in the Discworld Noir computer game where (Spoiler Alert) he needs to get bitten and become a werewolf if you wish to succeed and find the treasure, the Tsortese Falchion.

I'm so happy you've started finishing up the core group, they look just how I picture them! How on the DIsc did you get some props from the Hogfather set???

And how far through your list are you? Is CMOT Dibbler gonna be coming as "support staff"?

Having had a time scale/deadline with the painting competition has certainly helped me to actually finish figures; so here are 43 of the city Watch and a few unit/hole fillers so I must be half way there by now. I was fortunate in that most of these figures were part built or I had a base figure to use – a benefit I don’t have for a lot of the remaining ones.

The competition will be repeated next year - I hope I will be near to finishing by then

They came from the ‘Tooth Fairy’ via a friend and a Convention.

There are two versions of CMOT in our collection – they might become hole fillers in the future.

Great job
Seeing Anuga reminds me of the bit in 'Thud' [I think it was 'Thud'] in which her and another lady constable realise they could make a lot of money if they charged men to watch them as they stumbled about in a pool of mud
