The Blooded Horn: Empire army project for Age of Sigmar
« on: February 21, 2017, 03:52:06 AM »
Hey guys

Also posted in AoS but i figured this section was a better choice.

New to posting here, but have lurked for ideas many times. Time to pay it forward.

Building an army for the first masters tourney in Western Aus, scheduled for September this year.

Just looking for advice and critique, as well as any ideas you guys can offer.

The fluff for the army is that it is an ostland division, with the symbol of a bull skull with a single, blood covered horn. The main theme
for the paint job and conversion work is to capture the effect of realmgate war. I like the idea of the empire clinging to its culture amidst
the turmoil of what is essentially a post apocalyptic setting.

My general on foot with banner:

warrior priest scultping stages and final paint:

greatsword captain and unit:

More coming soon, guys. Ill likely update my instagram more often, and drop a bunch of images here when i've compiled them. So if youre interested its @thebloodedhorn

-Second Update-
5th March 2017:

3 command squads to lead 3 units of ten handgunners.

Rolling larger squads gives you a bonus to your hit rolls, but using "Hold The Line" (freeguild general command ability) as well as the State Troop Battalion gives them a good enough profile. As such, three smaller squads gives 3 Hochland Longrifles; which can cause serious hero damage in the first couple turns.

3 Command Squads

The Longrifle men

I place the squad closest to the "middle" of my deployment zone with the big banner

The two squads on the flanks of the central one use these banners

-Third Update-
2nd May 2017:

An old sculpt of a wizard painted over. Left the paint alittle textured, not a great finished but he looks the part on the board. The sculpting work is showing its age

great paint jobs and conversions. how did you make the General with Banner? don't recognize that miniature.

(I don't know about that skull dangling between the captains legs...what is he trying to say :closed-eyes: ..also seems a tad impractical)

Haha, definitely impractical.

The general is a serious kit bash for the most part. The bottom of the legs are from demigryph riders, the torso, sword arm and shoulder are from the general with twohanded sword kit. The runefang is from the gryphon general, the head is a pistolier head with sculpted beard and the banner is a old black templar one (i think). The cape is the fur ones from the knight box

Stunning conversions & painting!  :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

That Warrior Priest conversion is probably the most dynamic one I've ever seen.

Helluva way to introduce oneself. Welcome.  :-)

Thanks mate, was a conversion i went crazy with. The poses of the GW priests are very static, i wanted a guy that looked like he was getting in the thick of it.

Awesome work! I agree with what's been said already -- the dynamic posing/conversions/sculpting and the freehand work are brilliant!

I think the Brush & Palette is fairly neutral in terms of what game anyone is playing, so by all means, keep posting.  :::cheers:::

And if there are others in the AOS boards who don't know that, feel free to pass on to them :)

Oh hey, I saw those amazing greatswords posted on Reddit! :biggriin:

Every model is epic and that free hand banner going beyond the call of duty! :::cheers:::

Really love the all armor look as well, vastly prefer that than the puffy clothes. Don't know why, just prefer greatswords as heavy metal rather than flashy.

Thanks for sharing these. :smile2:

Definitely agree with the comment about the armour. Why wouldn't you put a helmet on, I don't get it. I mean, if an orc choppa hits you likely it wouldn't help, but still.

I so rarely go into the AoS area (where is it located again? :icon_wink: , sorry couldn't help myself :icon_lol: ), I might have missed it if these hadn't been posted here.

Haha well took me a while to give AoS a try. I was resistant, but that warrior priest couldn't exist on a square base in a regiment. Some doors closed but others opened with the new rule set.

Once again thanks for the props guys. Got a few more units I'll photograph in the next 24 hours and post here

Hopefully will give W:AoS a try at some point.  Maybe I'll become a raving fan.  Maybe.

Really great work in general, both painting and conversions, but those banners really take the price. They are amazing!

Well if you're taking a greenskin hit directly instead of parrying it you didn't really earn your elite status. :D

That armor does wonders for stopping elf arrows and skaven blades, though. (Certainly better than puffy pajamas  :-P )

That freehand, holy crap!

Indeed! Looks good enough to believe they trapped a daemon in that banner. :biggriin:

But that's heresy! Altough back in 6th edition, we had a standard, dipped in the blood of a Daemon Prince, killed under the mighty rock of Faulschlag! :biggriin: So you know, double standards and such. ;)

Second update added to the OP guys

More coming soon, just have to clean a few things. Most of the leg work for the first 1000 points out of 2500 is done, so those pics will come soon with a delay for the last 1500.

Im making headway. I appreciate all the accolades, hope you guys are enjoying the work and getting inspired to play some age of sigmar maybe ;)

Beautiful work, but I still refuse to play Warhammer with round bases, however good minis look on them! Keep it up though :D
