Star Wars Legion
« on: June 09, 2020, 09:16:40 AM »
Hey all, I'd forgotten that this part of the forum existed. I have not been painting any Warhammer stuff this year, but instead have been painting Star Wars Legion. I'll share some stuff here. First up are my Separatists:

I had a few extra Battle Droids left over after a side project, so I add them as optional riders for the Tank.

This is awesome! That first pic of the droid pack made me think they were huge until the next when the humie appeared 😺

Those look great!

So let me make sure I understand this ... the figures come in what color plastic?

And then they get painted. :icon_cool:

(GP ... what are you thinking?)

Well, I'm wondering what the game is like.

True, although Count Dooku is a rather tall model.

Well, I'm wondering what the game is like.

They come in grey plastic. Although for a long time they were a softer plastic and came in baggies. Now they are hard plastic and come on sprues.

The game is fun. Not quite as fiddle as Warhammer. I also really like the old D6 rules from West End Games, so I use these models with them sometimes too.

So who owns the product currently, or did West End just "upgrade" the rules to whatever they are now, D10?

Fantasy Flight Games now holds the license. They make Legion, X-Wing, Armada, the current RPG, and others.

And I just went looking on their site.  Uh oh.

It is a mixed-dice system. Many of their systems used polyhedral dice with funky symbols on them.

Glad I have other dice besides 6 sided, mostly 10 sided, but a few others.  Do the starter sets come with a rule book :icon_question:

The description says it comes with everything to play, yet it didn't mention dice nor rule book.

Wasn't drawn to the initial starter set when I first saw it, it seemed like more of the same, perhaps since the last three films had many of the same characters, and I felt all the marketing has been on overkill.  However, I like what I see with the new Clone Wars models, and it feels more like a pair of table top sci-fi armies to me, a bit more removed from the marketing overkill, and I might enjoy playing either side, plus it might help with my various nephew's being interested in table top miniature gaming.

So I painted these droids in January (all except for the tank, which didn't arrive until May.) I painted Republic forces in February:

Obi Wan and a squad of Clone Troopers

Captain Rex and another squad of Clones

BARC Speeder

Later I decided to paint a clone helmet for Obi Wan, too.

The Saber Tank also arrived in May.

I managed to get a game in as well. My daughter defeated me! But at least my Moon Base Klaisus terrain is getting some use.

These look great! :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::

Love that you're using the Warcry scenery with this, and am sensing the scenery alone in the Warcry starter set could be worth purchasing the Warcry kit, if one can find it for less than GW's newest cost on line.  I got mine for $170 as opposed to the $280 cost that GW is charging on line.  Their cost left me wondering if the shipping is free, and they are just adding in the shipping cost anyway?  I'm going to check with my local hobby store, and see if the other scenery for Warcry is cheaper thru them as well. But I digress.

So ... I found out that the rules are provided in the Clone Wars starter set.  And then there is some sort of download to get the revisions or some such.  Good to know.  I've asked for a price on this from my local hobby store, and can see myself purchasing the Clone Wars set asap.

So many fun looking things in this silly hobby of ours! :icon_lol: :icon_mrgreen:

Looks fantastic! I've been contemplating a dive into the Star Wars legion stuff for a little while now. I quite like the models, and your painting is fantastic.

I like the tanks quite a bit actually. They have more detail then I was expecting.

Nicely done!

That was January and February. In March I worked on my Imperials. Starting with Shoretroopers.

I painted an alternate head for one so I can use him as an RPG character. I think you all will recognize it!

Then there was the Dewback and rider. Green contrast paint made the dewback a cinch to paint.

I repainted my Snowtroopers and E-web crew as Galactic Marines.

I used a few of Grievous' extra sabers to turn this Magus into an Inquisitor.

And finally, I painted up a Phase II clone helmet to be an Imperial Pilot for my Saber Tank.

Like what you did with these alot.  Excellent.  And fantasy flight better start paying yiou a commission because I've almost been recruited into buying these figures.

Thank you! I have a few 40K figs to use as characters. I can share some more later. In April I focused on my Alliance stuff. I finally finished a Laser Cannon crew that I had started a lot earlier.

Here are my rebel veterans. I went with a non-Hoth sceme for these guys.

Two Tauntaun riders. Also non-Hoth.

Lastly these two.

Does 3P0 have any useful rules in the game or does he just run around in a panic?

He has a few useful rules. But Artoo is the real hero, I think. So I finally got around to painting this terrain piece:
