The Grand Army of Sigmar's Righteous Fury
« on: April 14, 2011, 03:02:51 PM »
At long last I've decided to start my own army painting blog. The main reason for it: I need to get painting faster, I have to many bare plastics!  :eusa_wall: :eusa_wall:
So I hope you all will give me some positive motivation and tips to improve my painting!

the background:
The year is IC 2523, Archaon's Great invasion has finally been halted at the siege of Middenheim but great parts of the Empire are completly destoryed and many towns wiped out. In the wake of the invasion many bands of marauders, beastmen and even larger creatures of chaos still roam the lands. The army of Ostland has nearly been wiped out and the count's armies aren't sufficient to protect it's citizens from roving brigands and defend the lawfull...
Que the ORDER OF SIGMAR'S RIGHTEOUS FURY: This ancient templar order upholds the ideals of modesty and piety above all else and see it their sacred duty to defend the Empire from all evils. The order's fortress is located on top of the Rock of Sigmar: a high rock formation that towers above the forest of shadows in the extreem north of Ostland. During the Storm of Chaos many of the surrounding villagers flocked to the Rock and, though besieged for months, it was never taken. After the defeat of Archaon's hordes the Templars set about restoring law to their domaines and driving out all the creatures of Chaos. Since the Count lacks the strenght and authority to uphold imperial law and order the Templars of Sigmar's Righteous Fury received special priviliges by the count to raise an army and restore law and order to the north of the province.
The orders military succes and ideals of modesty allowed the knights to collect considerably whealth over the years, a whealth that's now been put to good use training and equipping the local peasantry as soldiers of the empire. The only condition the count made was that they would be dressed in state colours. (black and white for Ostland)

My army is thus led by faithfull templars of Sigmar. The most accomplished of whom can call upon their patron for divine protection (much like a warrior priest). At the head is the Order's Grand Master. The troops are recruited from the local peasantry, most of whom have lost everything after the Great Invasion. And allthough the Army's commanders are templars of Sigmar, Sigmar is not the most worshipped deity among the soldiers. Most have great respect for Sigmar but like most Ostlanders Taal and Ullric are more commonly worshipped by the soldiers.
The bulk of the army are the soldiers, supported by the knights and some ancient artillery, supplemented by some brand new experimental weaponry recently purchased by the knights.

Nice use of the Old Necromaner and Hengus. Ter to get rid of the funny skull that the former Necro has and put an hour glass on there. Amethyst Wizards worship the god of the dead after all and the hour glass is a token of Morr
I choose too keep "Old Warhammer" alive with my blood sweat and tears.

It's bad that warhammer might die but it would be a tragedy if it stays dead!

dwi, do you mean the bird skull or the skull in his hand with the (badly) sculpted magical flames coming out of it's sockets which I added myself? :biggriin:
I don't see it necesaary for a death wizard to worship the lord of death? does it?

anyway I've included  WIP pic's of my War Altar:

what do you think?
The gloved hand on the griffin is blue because I first wanted to give him a Jade glove. But since green doesn't feature in my army (except on the life wizard) I decided to go with a blue kind of jade. I don't even know if that's possible but hey, it's a fantasy world! In real life you don't see this many white horses neither!
anyway I'm not to sure about the blue hand/glove? What do you all think?

another question: right now I didn't paint te spikes on the horses' cloth, do you think I should? and what colours should I use? Boltgun metal? NMM Grey? or another?

btw this was my first attempt at painting fire, I'm pretty pleased myself  ::heretic::

I think the Amethyst wizard is really nice.  The skull reminds me of Scratchy from the Simpsons though, I agree that an hourglass would look better.

thanks for the great responses!
it's a busy period school-wise but I've got some updates anyway:

two master engineers, I think it's pretty obvious with what they're armed:

And a Captasus:

yes, he's missing a wing, that's for the picture's sake

Thanks for Looking!

Some cool stuff here! I like that Amethyst wizzard you have made from the old necromancer. The two Engineers look great I especially like the pidgeon in the bag. Is the one with the Long Rifle having a quick scratch whilst everyone is looking up at the pidgeons?

Hehe, I guess he is  I was actually quite unsure what to do with his left arm/hand so any suggestions are welcome!
I've thought about having him look at an hourglass but I couldn't find an hourglass that's small enough

There is the hourglass on the reins of the one Pistolier horse head. It's fairly small. Of course you'd have to do a little carving on it as it's top half is obscured by the reins.

War Altar is looking good! For your engineer he looks like he could be in the process of re-loading it so you could try modeling a bullet pouch or holding the stick they use to ram the bullets and powder home.

Look forward to seeing some more

I really like the sense of movement you get from using those horses. My only quibble would be not putting both torches so that their flames were also flowing towards the back, to maintain the feeling of movement.

I took my first steps in speed painting. Finished these spearmen. Only the front rank received a little extra attention.
I herby proudly present my 36 Spearmen: Sigmar's Bulls

and a close up of the last rank :smile2:

So fellow generals of the empire, what do you think of my muster?
