Show us your.. Banners!...AND Shields!
« on: February 24, 2010, 11:19:31 AM »
I apologize if this "show us" thread was already a topic.  I love the show us threads, everyone of them, and would love to see them as a sticky.  (that was my official vote mods  )
I derive my inspiration, (As I am sure others do as well) from seeing wonderfully painted minis!
I know it is customary, to start the "show us" threads by showing off your own minis, however, I regret to inform you that a.) my camera is broken  :icon_cry:  and b.) I am still working on building my 7500 pts, once it is all built, then I will commence painting.
So, I will start with a description of the best Imperial banner I saw, was the limited ed. Std. Bear. from the 6th Ed. Army deal.  The banner itself was painted to look identical to the cover of the current (7th ed.) warhammer hardcover book.  (Minus the word warhammer across the top.)  So, that is how I am going to do the banner for my GS when I get them done.

Anyways, enough goobing.... lets see some banners.  I know there are a ton out there!

I am not a very good free painter so I use paper banners. I find a cool idea on line print it then cover it with white glue or a clear coat. I am able to bend it so it give the unit a sense of movement IMO.

I like to paint my shields in quarters

For my Marienburg army:

Swordsmen:

Banner for another unit of Swordsmen:

This is actually the banner for my Greatswords:

And this is a figure I traded off a a friend with a Middenheim / Cult o' Ulric army:

I've got the LE Empire BSB from 6th ed partially painted but have not been inspired to paint the actual banner yet! I keep thinking that it *should* be the Marienburg crest/heraldry, but I'd like to do something a bit more interesting. Maybe liven it up a bit?

And as long as I'm at it, I did this for a miniatures exchange:

The standard bearer for one of your swordsman units (horizontal blue and gold stripes) is a Fugger?  Awesome!! I did the same but with a red bordure for a unit of knights, just so I could accurately tell my opponents, "I'm going to now charge you with these fuggers".

Hey, trolls stay the hell out, this is a serious thread. Empire are cheese. 2 steam tanks, a war altar and 4 cannons is so obviously overpowered. Anyone who thinks otherwise clearly hasn't had their dragon shot down on turn 1 yet."

oh really now.  LOL ROFLMAO oh the irony.

Well, not particularly Fugger, I just thought it would look striking with my colorful figures. However, the "free city" and merchant/banker themes work with Marienburg

Speaking of historic inspiration, I recommend this site:

http://www.krigsspil.dk/

Look in the "downloads" section, there are "medieval & renaissance," Hundred Years War, Crusades, etc. sub-sections loaded with banners.

If that hourglass banner was free-handed by you, then I'm calling you out as a liar. That's excellent work!  :biggriin:

I'm amazed - I'm no longer happy with my own freehanding skills have been put to shame. I love the simplicity of the blue and yellow striped banner.  :eusa_clap:

Well I suck at freehand but thought I'd show you my efforts anyway, well the only freehand is actually a dark elf corsair. But i've got a couple of Empire standards as well!

The greatest form of control which can go on forever until it is exposed is a tyranny you can't see, touch and taste (unlike totalitarian Govts). When you sit in a prison cell but can't see the bars, because people don't rebel against not being free when they think they're are.
