Cult of Ulric
« on: February 25, 2010, 05:04:15 AM »
We can only remember fondly the fun army that was the Cult of Ulric.

I've posted some pics of my fellows who I had a great time playing back in the Storm of Chaos campaign of 2004 to my gallery:
http://s879.photobucket.com/albums/ab358/Lion-of-Flanders/Cult%20of%20Ulric/

Here are a few shots:

Teutogen Guard

Black Claws of Ulric

Red Claws of Ulric

Battle Standard

And, of course...Thrud

That's silly! Playin' with il' statues, pretendin' they're fightin'!  Why not just get a bunch of real goblins and lettem whack it out?

All of the models in the army except for two (which are Foundry) are old GW Norse figures which I bought years ago and had in a box for about 6 years.  GW made literally dozens of unique Norse figures in the old days.  I haunted ebay for years buying the old figs and was constantly amazed at how many figures I had never seen before.

I'll post more pics soon.....

I'm sure I saw these at a UK GT once. Quite a while ago.

Anyway, they are amazing.

I love that the army standard is a painted white wolf pelt! It really looks excellent. Did you sculpt the wolf heads? Specifically the wolf heads on the teutogen guard as well as the ones on the banners? If they are plastic, what sets are they from? If they are hand sculpted (which I think they might be)...wow, simply...wow.

Thanks for the high praise! The wolf head on the TG banner is from the old goblin wolfrider wolves, the BSB head is a DOW character (Oogla Khan?).  All the TG wolf heads are sculpted.  I have two more units of WolfKin to post once I photograph them.

I did bring this army to the UK GT in the Fall of 2004 and again at the final (quite pleased to have made the final with a Cult of Ulric Army.   :icon_biggrin:

Very nice!

That brings back memories -- my friend still has his Norse army though he hasn't run them in forever.

An interesting question, and I'm not currently sure.

I have a box of Teutogen Guards, and some day I need to paint them up.

Which were the official (infantry) mini's GW released back during SoC? Only Teutogen Guards?

Lots of special characters and some warmachines that then made it into the army books: Be'lakor, the big mounted Archaon model, Chaos Hellcannon, the Exalted Valten, Ar-Ulric, Borgut Facebeater, Slayer Doomseekers, Malakai Malakaisson's Goblin Hewer, probably some more.

Not sure if the newer Kislev models were released during SoC or some months before. Winged Lancers, Ungol Horse Archers and the Ice Queen Katarin were there since the 4th ed, but all the other Kislev models were released in 2003, IIRC.

Teutogen Guard was the only unit as far as I recall. And then the Priest of Ulric on foot and mounted.

Ar Ulric as well. And then folks who built Middenheim armies painted regular units in Middenheim colors, too.
