Darknight's Plog of Completed Projects
« on: July 07, 2017, 07:42:43 PM »
Welcome to my painting log or "plog" of completed projects! You might have seen some of these models before, as they were uploaded to previous threads. I have decided to reorganize and start afresh, creating new threads to post my work in.

Previously, I've mixed in completed models, WIP, musings, planning, background and what-have-you in a single thread, but segregated threads by game and army. I am changing how I do that now.

This thread is for completed units. By that I mean a model or models which are fully assembled and painted, and which can be used on the battlefield as a single, complete unit. It might not be the largest size unit, but it will be at least the minimum size as specified in the army list entry. It won't be divided up by army or game - but it will only contain finished units.

I currently collect a number of armies for 40K, Fantasy and Age of Sigmar. In this initial post I will have a helpful index which will allow you to jump to any particular model you are interested in. I will keep this index updated for your pleasure.

Any comments or questions on any of the models are welcome!

Warhammer 40,000

The Order of Our Crystal Lady (Sisters of Battle)

This thread is one of several threads I have created specifically to organize my completed projects, work in progress, army design and background. They can be accessed here;

Dreadnought
Order of Our Crystal Lady (Sisters of Battle)

This is a model I built and painted over a decade ago - probably nearer 15 years ago. The age can be seen by the use of a metal Dreadnought and metal hormagaunts! It was damaged in transit and has been languishing for a while. I took some time today to repair it and touch it up, applying a fresh coat of varnish and getting some glamor shots in the bright sunshine.

A major inspiration for the model was the scene with the autoloader in Aliens (hence the name "Ellen" on the front plate). I considered painting "Get away from her, you bitch!" on the base . . .)

(As with all pictures in my plog, click them to make them bigger in a separate window)

Avatar of the Goddess Myrmidia
Order of the Eightfold Cross (Empire Knightly Order)

The Order of the Eightfold Cross is my Empire Knightly Order, modelled after the Hospitaliers but with a healthy dose of ancient Greek mythology in there. In the background I wrote for them, the Order is founded when the goddess Myrmidia manifested in physical form and drove back the forces of Chaos. From time to time, she still appears to fight for them.

This model is made from a 54mm Reaper model with GW pegasus wings and various other little details. In game terms, she either functions as a unit filler for my "ladies of battle" unit or as a hero on pegasus.

(As for all images in my plog, clicking them will make them larger.)

Kislev Boyar on Griffon
2012 Pleasant Surprise for Timbor

The first Pleasant Surprise I participated in! I wanted to make a large, impressive, centerpiece model - but the cost of GW models makes such things difficult. So, I did what I've done for several models - used a toy! For the colors of the griffon, I was inspired by older pictures of winged lancer models where the horses were white with the front portion dyed red.

Grand Master Vladimir Hunyadi
Order of the Eightfold Cross (Empire Knightly Order)

The general and leader of my Knightly Order is Templar Grand Master Count Vladimir Hunyadi of Sylvania-in-Stirland, member of the Order of the Dragon by birth and now First Arch-Warpriest and Templar Grand Master of the Order of the Eightfold Cross of Melite, Champion of Myrmidia, Beloved of the Goddess, First Son of the Maiden.

He, too, is an old build - based on the Archaon model back when he was still metal! The first work was done well over ten years ago, but it was completed in 2012. His aesthetic reflects his origin as a Sylvanian warrior-noble (with some Transylvanian elements) as well as his position as the head of the Order.

Thank you! He is five years old now, and I think people have missed him in the old plog. I like this format of putting the images out there better - it is more of an archive than having to wade through all the other posts.

She's gorgeous.  I am glad you are adding to this blog :)

Thank you! I think it is important to share our work - even though mine is not the equal of many painters on this forum, sharing the images encourages participation which I think is what this forum needs right now.

Pleasant Surprise from ZeroTwentyThree

A lovely gift from ZeroTwentyThree for this year's gift exchange. Truly wonderful painting skill and a lovely color palette choice.

I love that converted Grandmaster! I've seen some really good models converted from that Archeon model, and your Templar is up there.

The giant gladiator looks pretty sweet as well. The coloring on the clothing and armor looks great. Excellent job and a wonderful exchange!
