Anyone used a War Wagon yet?
« on: January 29, 2025, 03:08:04 AM »
Has anyone used a War Wagon yet?
How does it fair?

I am thinking 1 war wagon and a helblaster costs the same as 1 steam tank - and am wondering what is better value.

I like a Steam Tank because it means I can take 1 less cannon.
Anyway - would be great to hear it works as well as it feels it does on paper?

I think it works really well.
If you get the impact hits, it's great. But it can be hard to get the charge on heavy chariots.
But if you don't, you have stomp attacks which are also great.
WS3 hurts it in combat. It can be hard to hit some Lords.
The shooting is a little mediocre, but it can do some chip damage which is good.
If you have an engineer on top it's a good platform for the Ruby Ring, or for Von Trickshotte's if you're playing Nuln.

It is not immune to pysch.
This and combat res are its main weaknesses.

Otherwise it's great.

I have tried it. Its quite nice. The shooting does not hurt but can do some smal damage here and there. I keep if for counter attacks. Soak something with infantry or stubborn Knights and then charge in.

Buffed with Battle Lust its a bit of a menace! Main weakness is unreliability of all those extra attacks - doubling them and adding hatred is pretty hilarious -especially on the special weapons. One as an additional target for battle lust is pretty fun

Totally agree, took an empire list to a gt this weekend - a real shark tank, my first game was vs Andy2d6's dwarfs and there's a report by him on his youtube channel - will pop up the games if I get a chance, I only went 2-3 but a couple of games were very close (less than 200 and less than 100 from a draw) which would have been a really great result vs the field.
Key to the army is a lvl 4 on Peg with Dark Magic, Tome of Midnight, White Cloak and Wizard's Familiar - battle lust, word of pain, doombolt and phantasmagoria doing work

You prefer to get the Tome instead of the twin tailed wand ?
I like the ability to double cast some strong spells (such as... Battle Lust ?) but I understand if you want more reliability on getting the spells you want and the cast.

Not as much battle experience as you, but I really like Daemonology for steed, vigour, and darkness, with vessel and familiar being situationally good.  Vessel is guano crazy on greatswords, and familiar is devastating against T3 knights.

Highlands has posted their new War Wagon that is part of their current Sunland Kickstarter. It is GORGEOUS.

You mean the one that came out in 2023? The Wittemburg Wagon?

No, I have the Wittemburg Wagon and like it. Highlands has a Sunland Kickstarter going right now, and one of the unlocked stretch goals is a Warwagon style war wagon. The pictures dropped today, and I love it. Much closer in style to GW, and it comes with appropriately armed crew!

It's the one here :
https://www.myminifactory.com/frontier/fantasy-fillers-and-heroes-sunland-3123

I have bought the official war wagon from GW (in fact, it should arrive today! Built Lowenhacke yesterday and it was fine, despite being resin).
However, I'd like to run two war wagons but $123 is a bit steep and besides, I imagine each war wagon would look a little different and be somewhat unique.

The degree of ripoff here is jaw-dropping.  I'm not one to defend GW's IP, given the casket of souls, among other examples of their own IP violations.  But this is systematically making the same model in the same pose, down to the same frilly shirt.  Unit after unit after unit.  Breathtaking.

I scrolled down far enough to get to pictures of the actual models (as opposed to just the 3D renderings) and...they remind me of minis from Battlemasters.  And while I have a fondness for those minis, in a "first things I ever painted" kind of way, I'm not saying it as a compliment.

Oh, no comment on the quality of the sculpts was implied.  There's zero artistry in it!  If GW is baroque, these are brutalist.  My point was that, especially for the character models, you can tell PRECISELY which GW sculpt they xeroxed.

Yeah, it's sites like that where I have no sympathy when GW's lawyers shut them down.  You wouldn't think it was that hard to have a little creativity instead of just copy-paste.

Ordered my made-to-order GW war wagon and cried a little when I did it.  $$$
Of course, with a second kid coming in a couple of months, that kit is probably going to take me six months to build and paint, so I guess it's not like I was going to be spending that hobby budget on anything else.  Plus, by the time it gets here, I'll have forgotten that I ordered it at all, so it will be a Labor Day surprise.

That happened to me a few weeks ago.  The void shield generator and some TK chariot bases I had ordered in May arrived completely out of the blue.  I imagine the bases were held for the terrain piece to save shipping costs.
