I agree that when I think of the DOW, I think of unique flavors. Each regiment will have something unique to them -- except the pikes, the 3 out of the 4 pikes regiments in the 5E DOW army list had no special rules apart from the pikes themselves.

Another thing is that most DOW regiments came with full command, so it's extra costly to add a unit if the cost aren't adjusted in some way. And something like the knightly orders trait for the regiments, but more extensive would be nice. Such as making a unit a mixed unit so you can make a lesser Pizzaro's Lost Legions, or give one unit of heavy cav FPA to represent exiled elite imperial knights (volands), or having an extra unit champion (such as the desert dogs). It'd be amazing if we will be able to just mix any trait with any unit -- I image a unit of norscan marauders wit the Motley Crew rule that can throw spears and also have s&s + GWs.

Then why play DOW then? An AoI has always been about specific builds
