I'm reworking my antique IG cityfight army, thought I'd share what little progress I'm probably ever going to undergo.
Starting off with my new tank camo:
In part inspired by this classic British WW2 pattern:
I'm not completely sure if it looks a bit more like old navy razzle-dazzle camo than it does any sort of urban camo though.
Here's how the infantry looks:
Mind that all of this is WIP, only the infantry uniforms are actually done. and the tanks will receive weathering to conceal glue stains and ineptitude.
-
Why are they not space marines?
-
Tank looks a bit GI Joe next to the Cadians who look really gritty and realistic. Love the Cadians. Tank needs light grey in place of blue I feel.
-
My Ultramarines are in a drawer.
Sig: The only thing 'done' on the tank is the pattern itself, I've yet to cover it in mud, dust, chipped metal and scorch marks. I'm hoping that'll make it look less cartoony. If not, I'll definitely change it somehow.
-
Love those old school cadians! Those are the pesters right?
-
Cool, we'll see how it goes. The basic camo scheme is fine I think, just feel the blue is very bright right now. Keen to see it all scuffed up.
-
Love those old school cadians! Those are the pesters right?
Yup! There are about 40 more waiting to be painted/repainted.
-

Razzle dazzle.
I like it though! And the infantry look great.

Pesters... Pewter. Stupid iPad!
-
Your ipad hates you, Phil!
Good stuff, patsy!
-
A better man would double check what was typed... I will endeavor to do so.
:(
-
Lovely, lovely... Lovely! That is all I can say, Patsy. Keep up the good work!
-
I like the tank camo pattern, I used to have an old Matilda tank with that very paint scheme, looks good and it works!
In fact it may a little more painting detail on that camo pattern, dusting/dirtying(like you said) will make the thing like "real" life lol :::cheers:::
-
Ah, I just love the Matilda II tank and desert camo. Looks so epic!
-
Shit, it's desert camo. That would explain why it looks like dazzle camo, which would be awful in an urban environment. Oh well.

-
Looks really good. A whole army like this would be great to play against.
-
That looks fucking amazing.
-
I like it. What did you use weathering powder?
-
I didn't, ain't nobody got time for that. Just paint and washes and inks and a sponge.
-
I really like the infantry. I am not really sure what to make of the Chimera. It certainly looks realistic, but its too dirty for my liking!
-
Yeah, it's a bit dirty. But weathering is fun and quick. Anyway, progress! Glacial, but still.

It's an old pre-2003 Russ, updated with a bit of extra armour, a plasma cannon from the post-2009 Demolisher kit and some other stuff to make it look more like an Executioner. It's not done yet, I still have sponson weapons, details, and decals left to do. I also have to make a hatch for the cupola, I've lost the original like an idiot and don't have any spare ones.
-
Looks good, I love the "wear and tear" on the Armour :eusa_clap:
-
Great looking tank!
I love the executioner!
-
Plasma cannon = knob tank.
It looks good though! Potent!
-
LOL why is it a knob tank? I am assuming that is a bad thing right?
I love the tank myself. I just posted yet another godamn request for the bitz over on Bartertown!
-
The plasma cannon is really phallic!
It's not a bad thing. It just looks like it has a penis on its turret.
-
It is better than the Forge World conversion kit...
I would be afraid to own the thing since Mrs. PhillyT would probably bring it into the shower with her and ruin the paint job.
-
Ha ha!
Better not derail this thread into the back table though!
-
Surely Mrs Philly wouldn't be getting excited by a 2 inch turret.... Even if it gets hot.
-
Good one!
:::cheers:::
-
Ask Mrs. Philly if she likes my microdick.

Cheap hydras!
Fucking magnets, how do they work?
-
Good one!
:::cheers:::
Thank you sir.
On topic: magnets are cool.
-
I personally like the dirty look of the tanks, gives the impression of being stuck into a campaign.
-
are Hydras even better now with the proliferation of flyers?
-
are Hydras even better now with the proliferation of flyers?
Unless it's changed recently, it can only snap fire at anything that isn't a flier. Because it has 'skyfire' but not 'interceptor.'
-

That is correct. Hydras are pretty useless vs ground targets, so their usefulness changes considerably depending on if the enemy are likely to have any flyers. I have no idea if this is a deliberate decision or an oversight.
I own a forge world one, its not taken part in any games, primarily because most of my group no longer own any flyers, as they sold them! I own more flyer modes in my armies than all my opponents combined.

oh.
It sucks then.
-
It's funny, because it has a special rule that negates 'jink' saves on skimmers... too bad it can't hit them very easily!
I have no idea if this is a deliberate decision or an oversight.
Ha ha, who knows! They've had plenty of time to change it though.
Plus it is meant to be a dedicated AA gun, so it kind of makes sense.
-
Still, you get four shots, twinlinked. So you should get at least one hit, on average, even against ground targets. It also has a hull heavy bolter. It is very cheap for what it is too.
-
It was definitely too cheap for what it could do under the old rules. It's only about 75 points I think? So maybe still worth having.
Returning to the subject of the thread, I've just noticed that the spare sponson weapons are stored on magnets under the tank. Clever!
-
If you don’t want to take a flyer of your own, or an Aegis tank, then they are probably worth it. Still, strength 7 vs a storm raven might not be too much fun, and vendettas are so cheap.
-
vendettas are so cheap.
Three twin lasers. Can hit ground or air stuff. Armour 12 front and side. 130 points. Hmmmm!
Points hike for vendettas please.

Well they do work well against skimmers under 6th edition.
-
Well they do work well against skimmers under 6th edition.
6s to hit, Phil!
That is not good.
-
What the hydra? Oh wait, it has Skyfire doesn't it!!!
-
I seem to remember it hits skimmers normally, I might be getting it wrong though.
-
I seem to remember it hits skimmers normally, I might be getting it wrong though.
It just says 'skyfire' and 'no jink saves' in the errata.
-
My brain hurts. Judging by what I've seen, taking two hydras is probably not a bad idea anyway when everyone is taking flyers and I can't be bothered to shell out £50 for a valkyrie. Right?
Moving on: God damn forgeworld. The middle sections were so thin and flimsy I was unsure if they were just more flash, and they were all shaped like bananas.
Still, they were cheaper than buying accessory sprues with track guards for £8 from GW.

WIP autocannons made from scavenged bits and old pewter.

Slightly more finished heavy bolter teams:
I've tried to squeeze some semblance of variation out of the models, but it ain't easy.
-
Fantastic basing job there! Love them!
I like the guys laying behind the walls.
-
Those models look awesome Patsy!
What I have done to eek out extra heavy weapon troopers, is to use plastic guardsmen from the normal cadian box to bulk them out, and add some extra variety to what you can field.
-
They look great! I wish my HW teams had that much character!
-
Patsy casts Threadomancy.
I've started a little side project.

The cuirassier was a massive pain in the ass, and he's still WIP. I haven't decided on what colour their gas masks are going to be yet. I need 9 more.
-
Kickass, seriously.
-
That's one awesome side project! What minis/parts did you use?
-
The tanks and heavy weapons teams are impressive! :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
Like what your doing with the gas mask guys, too. I see you got some WF Greatcoat bodies in there, but where do the arms and gas mask heads come from?
-
Are they Victoria lamb arms?
-
Cheers. Arms are Victoria Lamb: http://victoriaminiatures.highwire.com/productsarms-1?pagesize=12&page=2 (http://victoriaminiatures.highwire.com/productsarms-1?pagesize=12&page=2)
Oddly enough I can't find them in the shop now - they're exactly like the Dress Uniform arms, except with shoulder plates instead of epaulets.
Heads are Adrian helmets from Secrets of The Third Reich http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/secrets-of-the-third-reich/head-packs/french-adrian-helmet-heads-gas-mask/prod_10368.html (http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/secrets-of-the-third-reich/head-packs/french-adrian-helmet-heads-gas-mask/prod_10368.html)
They're technically a bit small for the bodies, but that doesn't really show when they're covered in gas mask and helmet. Bodies are Wargames Factory Greatcoats.
The cuirassier's legs are from the WHFB 6th ed. starter set, chainsword with arm is from a Commisar model, and the horse is from the Pistolier kit. Everything green in the WIP pic is sculpted.

Done!
Went for a sickly green-beige as a tertiary colour, instead of tan.
-
Really like what looks like cracked glass on the horse's right eye.
-
Thanks babe.

Space Renault.
-
I've come across an aesthetic dilemma. Every Space French army needs a WW1 machine gun themed heavy bolter, but which one is better?
No. 1 is a stubber to be converted into a Chauchat-like LMG with iconic magazine should I settle with it. Pros: Looks even cooler with magazine, appropriately themed. Cons: A bit weedy, and not really a bolter. Also, the real life Chauchat was an irredeemable piece of shit, which will affect my sensibilities.
No. 2 is a bolter with an extended, WW1-looking muzzle, on tripod. Pros: Looks formidable, and like an actual bolter/heavy MG. Cons: Looks like a bolter with a muzzle slapped on, will demand work.
No. 3 is a standard tripod heavy MG look, can be converted to be magazine-fed or belt-fed. Pros: Appropriately themed. Cons: Weedy, not a bolter.
All Cadians are placeholders for Space French.
-
Number 2 would be my clear favorite for your theme.
-
Number 2 for sure, but why not clip the barrel off the HB first?
-
I agree, number 2 is great. The other two look like stabbers!
-
Well, they are just stubbers, but they look like more traditional MGs than a Heavy Bolter does and can count as one.
Number 2 for sure, but why not clip the barrel off the HB first?
Sacrilege! :-o I don't do that to OOP models. I will, however, be able to cast it in resin and convert that.
Anyway, it's unanimous. #2 will be chosen.
I still want stubbers in my army, though! Any ideas for counts-asses?
-

Autocannon.
-
(http://i.imgur.com/LuLt1IA.jpg)
Too weedy!
Sorry for being picky.
-
Not a good solution by any means, but Inquisitor henchmen can take storm bolters, and a heavy stubber could be roughly equivalent. Wrong base size of course.
Apart from heavy bolters there really aren't appropriately based models in the guard dex for the look you're after. One of the forge world supplements might let you take heavy stubber weapon teams, a Krieg list or something, they like their stubbers
-
I thought about plasma guns, but that's kind of lame. Maybe I can take DKOK allies in my regular army.

-
Love the "mine's bigger than yours" battle cannon.
-
(http://i.imgur.com/nujzNRy.jpg)
It's actually half the calibre of the regular battle cannon. Looks more like a real gun, though!
-
I like big barrels and I cannot lie.
I am in the process of assembling my Baneblade and I ended up not using the normal baneblade barrel. I attached the volcano cannon barrel for a more... impressive weapon. To be honest, the actual Baneblade barrel is pretty small for something as powerful as the weapon it represents.
-
I don't know, it's pretty massive compared to the turret.
Anyway, some conversions and a lascannon:

Looking good!
Seeing as they're based on French would the troopers be 'Cah-Dee-Ahns' instead of 'Cay-Dee-Yuns'?
-
Nice bricks on the ground!
-
Cheers. I'm actually going for two separate forces. Old Cadians, and space legionnaires. Don't know what I'm gonna call them, though.
-
Le Legionnaires du Cosmos.
-
It's been a year, so thought I'd paint another tank.
Also, missile launchers.
And this guy. Counts as sly marbo, maybe.
-
Sly marbo is no more im afraid. Looking forward to seeing them finished.
-
Ah, yeah. I forgot that they got rid of him.
Anyway, tank done. Click for bigger pictures.

Not as happy with the result this time, looks like I overdid the orange rust compared to the first one.
Edit: Actually, my new phone camera oversaturated the colours in the last two pictures(notice the blue on both tanks, and the overly yellow grime on the right tank). They're not noticeably different in real life.
-
Great looking stuff. I love the urban theme on your IG. What other infantry do you posses? Any old school Stormtroopers or Kasrkin?
-
I have 15 or so metal Kasrkin lying around, not sure if I'm gonna use them though, the post 2003 look doesn't match my old guys.
I'd love to get my hands on some old school storm troopers though, for the sake of completeness.
Edit: Talking about these guys:

The best guys. They look like proper spec-ops. I have about 13 of them. Want to add 7 more and call it a day. :)
-
Six years since I did anything with my space french. I had plans to do a lot of resin casting to keep it going forward (tank pieces and cuirasses), but resin casting is a pain in the ass. The alternative, sculpting identical parts or cutting them by hand from plasticard, is not an option. I got my hands on some oyomaru now though, and that's changed things quite a bit.
Remember this guy?
Well, now I can do this:
I also ordered some dragoon helmets from Reptilian Overlords (which did not exist 6 years ago): https://www.reptilian-overlords.com/online-store/Dragoon-Helms-2-p138430417 (https://www.reptilian-overlords.com/online-store/Dragoon-Helms-2-p138430417)
Now I'm just missing lances and arms.
-
There's an outfit called Atlantic Games or some such, and they are getting ready to release some "french" for use with sci-fi, and these will include both Napoleonic and Adrian helmet head options.
-
Nice.

It looks promising. Plus 24 guys for 35 bucks isn't too shabby.
-
Good stuff! I like the models AND the casting.
-
Love the new look! Very ingenious.
-
One set of tracks almost done (photo taken at a dutch angle for some reason):
Turns out I got a rather brittle and hard type of plasticard, which is a pain to work with at a thickness of ~1mm or more. Seriously considering just using cardboard for the hull.
Also, who needs wargaming when your desk is a battlefield:
-
(https://i.imgur.com/RyLJ1y1.jpg)
-
Gah, I've been contemplating making home made tank tracks just like that so I could convert some rapiers, but I've been put off by my terrible sculpting skills. Well done, they look very good.
-
Mind that I'm "burdened" by imitating the Renault FT-17. A rapier can be quick and easy to make, depending on how much time you want to spend on it.
Either way, do yourself a favour and get some oyomaru (or blue stuff or whatever) and cast your tracks in green stuff. You get something akin to the rubber tracks that come with historical model kits, which is much easier to work with. And they're disposable.
-
Thanks for the tip! I've had all the weapon parts for ages, but just been put off by having to make tracks.
