After much soul searching I have decided to do a new 2000pts imperial guard armoured company using the formations from the Cadian army list. I have jumped in at the deep end and bought all the tanks for the army already. All eleven of them! i am going to use anvil industries guys for the infantry models. I have done five as Test batch.
The army uses the emperors fist and assault company formation. Basically five leman russ tanks, five chimeras with two company command squads and three vet squads and a hellhound.
More details to follow, but here is a few pics of progress. I've got a game on 27th so trying to get as much done as possible for then. I'm going to use my drop troops for the game.

Looks promising! Do you have a closeup of the 5 test troopers?
-
Thanks Aldaris. I've been hard at work on these, burning the midnight oil as i've been busy at work and two small kids. I've now completed another two chimeras, taking me to four done, along with a Leman Russ.
The four leman russ remaining are in various stages of completion. Also the last chimera and hellhound have had their first ink coat. Also the enginseer base metal is done and the robes have had a base coat and first ink. I'm just going bog standard mechanicus red. Is that the Mars pattern? I might try a cog detail around the bottom of the robes.
Anyway, what you've been waiting for, the pictures. Here are the four chimeras, front and back, showing their insignia and unit markings.
Also a closer picture of the infantry I intend to use.
I hope you like them. A couple of leman russ next, the standard and executioner ones. Along with the inking and dry brushing to complete the base green on the other two tanks.

Agree! This army looks really good. Love the troopers as well. I love army's with lots of vehicles and this one has em!
-
Indeed! I love the color of the tanks and the way they look like traditional colors. Reminds me of Sherman colors.
Those troops are pretty impressive as well. I like the armor especially.
-
Very realistic paint job, and I love the models you're using for the grunts!
:::cheers:::
-
awesome, as expected :eusa_clap:
-
Fantastic! I like the hats on the infantry.
All those tanks!
-
Thanks you. The infantry are going to be last to do as i have some I can use for the moment.
I have completed another two lemon rusks for the army. Two more to go. I also have the first game with it tonight so i'll do a little report and lists etc.

Going ham on that Executioner, I like it! Are you going to run him with Pask to mitigate the gets hot! Or are you just baller about it?
-
The tanks look great!
Plasma time!
-
Your painting looks really gritty and realistic. It's great and I like those Vets/Stormtroopers a lot! :smile2:
-
Well as I had my first game with this army last night and it was a good learning curve. I'm not used to having to protect tanks and made a few rookie mistakes about protecting them.
My list as as follows
Cadian battle group formation
Battle group command - company command squad - 4 melta, chimera with dozer blade
Emperors fist armoured company
2 vanquishers with las cannon and MM sponsons
Exicutioner
2 leman russ battle tanks
Enginseer
Assault company
Company command -4 melta, power fist
2 vet squads - 2 melta and HF
1 vet squad - 3 plasma
Helhound
Adaptus astra telepathica division
Astropath
Primaris psyker
My opponent played a tratior legion army, black legion theme he had the following:
Daemon price of Nurgle with wings, level 2
2 squads of possessed in rhinos
Renegade knight
Maulerfiend
6 nurgle bikers
2 squads of cultists
3 terminators
helldrake with auto cannon
5 raptors
We played Big guns mission with vanguard deployment

Turn 1
I advanced (foolishly) on all fronts. I should have held the centre back. I took off half the hull points on the knight and killed all but one of the bikers.
He advanced and killed a chimera
(http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/Battle%20report/40885BC9-1011-47E8-A6D7-8016F3C1FEC7.jpg) (http://s146.photobucket.com/user/Wissenlander/media/Battle%20report/40885BC9-1011-47E8-A6D7-8016F3C1FEC7.jpg.html)

Turn 2
The deamon price and maulerfiend hit and tanks start to fall. I start working the flanks.
(http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/Battle%20report/DCBBB7B8-BDCE-4EB3-9CAA-11F92109245C.jpg) (http://s146.photobucket.com/user/Wissenlander/media/Battle%20report/DCBBB7B8-BDCE-4EB3-9CAA-11F92109245C.jpg.html)

-
Turn 3
Right flank gets on top of chaotic forces but centre is over run and left flank stalls
(http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/Battle%20report/89DFC705-778B-4819-AFA8-012283D01A7A.jpg) (http://s146.photobucket.com/user/Wissenlander/media/Battle%20report/89DFC705-778B-4819-AFA8-012283D01A7A.jpg.html)

Turn 4
Left flank ends in a last stand which sees all three terminators dying to shotgun fire but ends with raptors and knights flamers reducing the numbers before the raptors over run them.
My battle group command goes down and the helldrake gets around the back of the tanks and shoots them up.
(http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/Battle%20report/594002B0-2E31-44DA-B454-DA3DF0EECBB4.jpg) (http://s146.photobucket.com/user/Wissenlander/media/Battle%20report/594002B0-2E31-44DA-B454-DA3DF0EECBB4.jpg.html)
Turn five sees the end of the game on a roll of a two. One more turn could of seen me push on to victory, thats the way the cookie crumbles.
The MVP was the daemon prince, with MoN he has a 2+ cover save and he got endurance and iron arm. I just could dispell iron arm and this meant he was T8 as well. Even with the ignores cover order I just couldn't do damage to him. I have learned a lesson on what to deploy against what and bubble wrapping tanks with infantry. Looking forwad to my next game in a couple of weeks. Maybe it was just playing with a non completed army and proxy infantry. I angered the dice god!
We I plan to do the vanquishers next and enginseer. Won't be long, stay tuned.
-
Looks good! Very good!
-
You didn't mention the chimeras in your list! That's why I was a bit underwhelmed with it at first. "Hmmm, PCS with 4 meltas, on foot. That's certainly... exotic. What is he doing?" And then I saw your photos.
Nice batrep man. Nurgle Prince and Maulerfiend in your tank line looks like bad news!
-
Great batrep! Next time you'll get that traitor scum, have no fear of that. :) Great table and really cool looking armies. Will you be bringing some artillery next time? :smile2:
-
that's an intimidating deployment! wall o' tanks.
that's an intimidating deployment! wall o' tanks.
is this your regular opponent? He's probably pleased you're not using your SM and winning every game!
-
it was my regular opponent. First time he's beaten me in nearly 3 years of playing at least once a month. He was well happy.
The problem with vanguard strike deployment is lack of space, it's my least favourite and the big guns mission gives extra points to kill heavy support choices, which i had loads and he none!
It's just not my usual type of army, i'm more sneaky, hit hard, fade away type army with my Revilers and Drop troops. It won't happen again. Plans are being formulated!!!!!!
-
Great photos! I think some of your tanks did badly due to missing treads though. :icon_razz:
it was my regular opponent. First time he's beaten me in nearly 3 years of playing at least once a month.
Yes, that deployment rule is pretty bad. It looks like you needed to call in the Grey Knights to deal with the demon too!

My last 4 WH40K games had this kind of deployment. For IG it is a ballache, as we really struggle with deploying everything on the table, especially in bigger games.
-
I like your reaction to losing, with a record of at the worst 35-1 vs him.
"fuck that, i'm winning next time"
poor bloke, hope you give him a beer as you're thrashing him.
-
Win every game!

Love these guys. Where are the models from?
-
I am going to use anvil industries guys for the infantry models. I have done five as Test batch.
-
Thanks GP
I only ever play to win, i don't have a 'give them a chance' mode. My opponent appreciates it, he knows if he wins it really counts. Never give in!
Also hes like 6'10" tall and a police man so could give me a hiding it he wanted!
-
If he wins occasionally, that's ok. At least he keeps coming back to play.
-
Ha! I have a friend who is/ was one of the top players in the old hall of fame that used to be around and I remember beating him 2 times. Both times he shook my hand and with the look of how did I screw up so you could win. 1 40k with my ork and 1with my tzeentch Deamonds. To loose against me was a great dishonour to thinking players like him 😺
Edit: I should add that there wasn't a game I didn't enjoy while playing him. Pretty much every Tuesday for Fantasy and Thursday for 40k. Consument player and knew every stat for every army. I was always stunnned as to how much knowledge he had of every addition as well. At one tourney he won overall and one of the prizes was the Skaven battalion which he promptly handed to me for fun. Great times indeed.
-
I've only ever beaten fr1day once, when we swapped to 8th ed fantasy. Mortars and life magic killing half of units at once.
And it's not true about give a chance mode, you took a less OP army for our eurobash 40k game.
-
I took a less optimised army, but still played to win. Its more fun for everyone. Knowone wants to feel like their opponent gave them the win for free.
-
This thread makes me want to play 40K again. I found my lemon russ with magnetised sponsons and turret.
-
Those tanks do look fantastic. It's enough to inspire anyone.
-
I genuinely really enjoyed both the games I played last bash.
As long as your opponent doesn't go crazy on the formations I think it's good, the objective focused mode I played with fr1day was great.
-
maelstrom missions are my favourite type of game to. Although they do favour a certain army build with lots of fast units. The ITC format games are a good all round balance of eternal war and maelstrom missions. These have primary, secondary and tertiary missions.
https://www.frontlinegaming.org/community/frontline-gamings-independent-tournament-circuit/itc-2015-season-40k-tournament-format/ (https://www.frontlinegaming.org/community/frontline-gamings-independent-tournament-circuit/itc-2015-season-40k-tournament-format/)
I've finished, nearly actually as the tank commander has a couple of bits to do on him, the two vanquishers. That is the all the leman russ tanks complete, Yeah! Just the chimera and hellhound to do with the enginseer to finish the vehicle side of the army.

Tanktastic.
Ha! Ha! Ditto on the above

It's like the World of Tanks met 40K. Great result. :)

I've completed the final two tanks tonight, Numbers 10 and 11. It started and fun, but as always with painting multiple things in the same way, it got a little bit like a chore.
I'm looking forward to doing the infantry now. My first batch turned up today from Anvil industries. They take me to twenty of them. I've also got the astropath and primaris psyker too. Assembly started this evening. Pics tomorrow. I also have another game on Monday so hopefully better luck this time.

I've had a couple of evenings hobby time this weekend as my wife and oldest daughter are away. Using this time as best I could around my youngest sleeping ive managed to paint the Astropath and assemble 8 of the 15 infantry i bought. Stupidly I didn't order enough arms to assemble the other 7. I also need the special weapons for them. I started by trying the special weapons from the BaC box. The plasma's look okay so have stuck with them but the meltas are massive. I either going to get the Kromlech or Mad Robot Miniatures ones. I also need a heavy flamer option.
Game tomorrow so i'll get that up mid week and a progress update end of week
Here is a army shot as well.

Dudes look sweet, and I love that Astropath.

gorgeous

Excellent! Really dramatic. Astropath looks imperious 😺
-
Very realistic looking IG army. I love the Astropath, where is he from? :eusa_clap:
-
Thanks guys.
The astropath is from this guy in Czech. It was cast of a funny material but details were okay. He needs a little more work on helmet and skin I think. The light was bad when I painted him. Going to buy a new superdupper light tonight for painting station.

Lost again last night, much closer, in a maelstrom game. I need some anti flyer options. Report, with pics, later.
-
Hydra is an iffy AA solution... I dunno, more flyers of your own? Like a Vendetta, or 3. Maybe some FW flyers. They're really good.
-
It's how to get them in. The overall formation makes you take three as an aux unit. Which is two much really and to many points at 510. The hydra is in the artillery aux unit. I can have it with a manticore and a basilisk with CCS in chimera. They can get the ignores cover, re rolls and other benefits. It changes the army style though. I'd also need an infantry platoon to get some grunts in for holding ground.
I'm going to play with a list tonight.
-
Best of luck then. You also have an option to take a Manticore with AA missiles from one of the Imperial Army books from FW. Might be worth a look.
-
A bit of threadomancy.
I have been continuing with this army over the months and have added various units to it as its needs have evolve while playing 8th. It was painted for the end of 7th and 'formations' which have now gone. This, and the improvements of 8th, have meant i've needed to tweak the army to suit. To this end i've added a couple of sentinels with magnetised weapon options, 3 taurox's, a squad of bullgryns, priests, more psykers, changed the captians to have plasma pistols. It's also made me focus on finishing my Kasrkin stormtroopers off, as I have enough for a battalion force ad they are great models.
While pics of all these additions and more will be forthcoming, may I preset to you a battle report for the other night. It was against my usual opponent, using Chaos marine. For a change recently we have been playing the narrative scenarios from the rule book. We played the cities of death one a couple of weeks ago and tried the Blitz mission, from the stronghold assault section, on Monday. They have both been fun and competitive and a nice change from the standard eternal and maelstrom missions
In the blitz mission you have an attacker and defender, I defended. The defender is in a prepared position with two lines and the attacker has to advance across a, basically, open table. However the attacker gets sustained assault, so his units come back, and a preliminary barrage of the defenders position. No flyers or deep striking. Victory points for defender for each unit destroyed and attacker, one point for a unit in front line and 2 points in back line of my deployment area at end of game
My list: 15 CP's, grand strategist WL trait
Brigade detachment: Steel legion doctrine
2 captain - one with Laurels of command
primaris psyker
6 infantry squads with plasma guns
2 sentinels with Auto cannon
Hellhound
heavy weapons squad with missile launchers
LR exicutioner
2 LR battle tanks
Astropath
3 Bullgryns
Priest
2 command squads with 3 melta and medic
Taurox
Chimera
Battalion: Militarum Tempestus doctrine
Tempestor prime with rod of command
Primaris psyker
10 scions
5 scions with plasma
5 scions with melta
Chaos list:5 CP's
Sorceror
Lord
Exultant champion
Apostle (WL)
5 terminators in Land raider
2 maulerfiends
8 Beserkers in RHino
5 marines in rhino
5 marines in rhino
Predator with 4 LC

Preliminary barrage (hits units on a six, D6 mortal wounds) all hit the middle of my line causing 6 casualties on an infantry squad, 4 wounds on executioner and 1 wound (luckily as he went to ground) on a captain with laurels leading the first line)
Chaos deployment, no surprises here
(https://i.imgur.com/JeNabbi.jpg)
Turn 1 - attacker goes first
(https://i.imgur.com/dzkE3TQ.jpg)
Chaos launch a full advance, except the predator, which covers the attack. I loose the executioner to massed las cannon fire (i should of used the +1 save strategy) and damage some of the other tanks.
I knock out the leading maulerfiend and a rhino. I DS the melta scions into destroy the predator, but the fail.
Turn 2:
Chaos forces reach the imperial line and start to put pressure on it. Recycled rhino charges the melta scions, ending their involvement in the battle
(https://i.imgur.com/8Gf0JKC.jpg)
Turn 3:
The berserkers, champion and apostle charge my lines. With the Apostles WL trait giving extra attacks on 5+ and the re roll to hit from zealot, and the champions re roll of wound buff, they make short work of the guard squad in their way and breach the left side of the defences.
On the right the maulerfiend over runs the right hand barricade. Counter fire from the guard destroys the maulerfiend and a counter charge from the bullgyns, hiding in the taurox, destroys their rhino and kills the apostle lurking at the back of the beserkers, who got reduced down to 3 from fire.
Turn 4:
The chaos forces keep coming, the bullgryns get counter charged by champion and remaining beserkers and loose two models.
(https://i.imgur.com/WsdT63n.jpg). The centre of my line is cleared out of defenders, but the right side resists.
Turns 5,6, and 7
Yes the game went the full length it could , meaning we didn't finish till nearly 1am!
The remaining scions deepstruck down to form a new defensive line to hold back the chaos reinforcements. The land raider went down to the 2 command squads melta guns, but the sorcerer stubbornly refused to die and cut his way through a psyker, while fighting a captain and a entire guard squad. The rhinos kept coming and advancing to get into zone two. In the end the defenders were down to the last of their man power with chaos forces in the lines. But we had scored 12VP from kills and the chaos forces only had 10VP's to it was an Imperial victory and this sector of the line held! Huzzah!Sorry not many pics at the end as we were just trying to get finished.
A good fun mission, i'd recommend it to play.
Over and out
-
This sounds like a riot. Holding a line against crazy attackers is the type of fight I like. Will definitely look for this scenario when I get into 40k again.
Nice report.
-
Great photos. Table looks amazing
1am though!

Nice report.
I'll second that. Looked like a great game and a very climactic one at that. :smile2:
-
Was that using 8th edition? Looks grand! :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
-
Yes 8th, it’s great.
1am was to late on a Monday. A bit caused by me still having to look up some rules for the guard and also because the chaos army didn’t get smaller as unit keep coming back. We are playing it again the other way around, same terrain, next time.
-
I've actually noticed most of my 8th games seem to be a bit quicker then the 7th games use to be. Of course that's different when one army keeps coming back again.
Sweet pictures! The Guard never breaks!

Codex updated, old school style, with Chapter approved points changes. Mostly up for units and down for weapons
(https://i.imgur.com/EhKYlvd.jpg)
Need to rewrite my army lists. I use a lot of those units and equipment. Not sure if that says something about me.
-
So is that the 'new' codex that has just come out - it needs changing already??
I had an email yesterday about the new 'Chapter Approved' which I assumed was just another new book?
-
Hmm interesting. I had thought it was more like the compendiums that got put out for fantasy years ago. A collection of all the stuff that had been in white dwarves.
-
So is that the 'new' codex that has just come out - it needs changing already??
The thing is - the old codices needed changing too, badly in some cases, but it simply didn't happen. If a unit was shit or too good, you were stuck with it for the amount of years it took for GW to make a new codex. The fact that they are willing to do balance updates is a very, very positive thing to my mind.
-
Point appreciated - I wasn't really criticising - more asking what this Chapter Approved was?
Some sort of FAQ / Update?
-
I'm curious, too.
-
Okay I had a quick look into it. Only a small portion of it is a FAQ that updates some of the weapon values. The rest of it is more like an expansion. More scenarios, more special rules you can have in a game. Ways to link games to make a narrative. A couple of rules for special battlefields or new stratagems. Stuff like that. To quote the product descriptions;
An enormous toolkit of rules, updates and ways to play, Chapter Approved is an essential purchase for any Warhammer 40,000 player. Expanding upon the rules found in the Warhammer 40,000 book, this 128-page softback book contains narrative-driven battles and scenarios depicting brutal sieges, exciting new ways to play, mechanics for designing your own vehicles and a host of new rules to take to the battlefield.
The Rules
Split into 3 sections – Open Play, Narrative Play and Matched Play – with explanations and expansions of the rules for each.
Open Play
Games of Warhammer 40,000 with few restrictions, where players are free to invent their own stories and frameworks with unlimited force sizes – this is Open Play. Chapter Approved provides the following guides to making your Open Play games as open and fun as possible:
- Apocalypse: huge, dramatic tabletop conflicts in which hundreds of infantry and squadrons of vehicles are locked in desperate conflict, games of Apocalypse are Warhammer 40,000 turned up to 11. Combine armies into immense forces, unleash terrifying super-heavy war engines – Apocalypse is your gateway to truly epic battles.Chapter Approved features a comprehensive guide to running games of Apocalypse, from 3 missions, ideas for multi-table battles and recommendations for an officiated game featuring an Umpire with special influence over the battle.
- Land Raider variants: this is a set of guidelines on designing your own datasheets for Land Raider conversions, meaning totally new variants for your games made completely by you! There are 5 example datasheets covering Ultramarines, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, and Chaos Space Marines tanks, and a blank datasheet for you to create your own, whatever Chapter you choose.
Narrative Play
Narrative Play games are characterised by pre-generated storylines that often take in entire worlds embroiled in war, from the initial invasions to the bloody battles that follow. Chapter Approved provides rules and missions that the players can chain together, following a conflict from the initial spark to its brutal denouement:
- Planetstrike: rules for playing games of devastating planetary assaults, with one player taking the role of attacker and the other defending, each using the new Warlord Traits, Stratagems and detachments designed for this play style. Included are 6 Planetstrike missions, along with 6 examples of common battlefield deployments;
- Stronghold Assault: rules for games in which players fight over fortified war zones, again deciding between them the roles of attacker and defender. This includes unique Abilities, Warlord Traits, Detachments and Stratagems, as well as 6 Stronghold Assault missions;
- Rules are included for linking games together in linear, narrative-led campaigns, with losses and victories deciding advantages in subsequent games;
- Datasheets for the following 11 fortifications: Aegis Defence Line, Imperial Bastion, Imperial Defence Line, Imperial Bunker, Vengeance Weapon Battery, Plasma Obliterator, Firestorm Redoubt, Macro-cannon Aquila Strongpoint, Vortex Missile Aquila Strongpoint, Void Shield Generator, Skyshield Landing Pad.
Matched Play
For many players, the thrill of Warhammer 40,000 is in testing their mettle against equally-powerful opponents in games where the fight is not decided by who has the biggest gun. When battle-forged armies go to war, victory will go to the commander who has fortune, strategy and cunning on their side. Included in this book:
- 6 Eternal War missions, providing challenges such as hidden mission goals and reserve forces storming in, turn after turn, creating havoc on a catastrophic scale;
- 6 Maelstrom of War missions, offering new permutations of the game and introducing fresh challenges – secret orders, strategic gambles and split-second opportunity feature here;
- 4 new Matched Play mission rules, including rules for targeting characters, using understrength units, clarification on the use of the Command Re-roll Stratagem who which unit types can claim objectives;
- Faction rules: additional rules including Stratagems, abilities, Warlord Traits and psychic powers for Adepta Sororitas, Deathwatch, Drukhari, Genestealer Cults, Harlequins, Imperial Knights, Necrons, Orks, Space Wolves, T’au Empire, and Thousand Sons;
- A guide to creating your own objective markers, themed to your own army, with examples for Imperial, Chaos, Necrons, Tyranids, Drukhari, T’au Empire, and Orks.
Appendix
The Appendix features a collection of supplementary content which can be used in any games of Warhammer 40,000. Included:
- Rules for a range of terrain, including Deathworld Forests (Eldritch Ruins, Grapple Weed, Shardwrack Spine, and Barbed Venomgorse) and Sector Mechanicus (Haemotrope Reactor, Thermic Plasma Regulators, and Thermic Plasma Conduits);
- Battlezone: Industrial Worlds – use Sector Mechanicus scenery to add height advantages and tap into plasma feeds to increase your weapons’ potential;
- Battlezone: Empyric Storms – rules for fighting amidst a violent warp tide, with 36 events that can affect your armies, surroundings and psychic powers;
- A guide to setting up and running Ladder campaigns;
- An explanation of Battle-forged armies, creating Detachments and Army Rosters;
- Updated points values for a variety of units and wargear for both Citadel and Forge World miniatures, based on feedback from the gaming community.
-
Thanks for explaining it.
So all we really need is this bit:
- Updated points values for a variety of units and wargear for both Citadel and Forge World miniatures, based on feedback from the gaming community.
Please tell me that is available separately online or as a pdf - having to buy a whole book just for that would be 'old style' GW tactics.
-
LEAked pics of points changes. It’s where I got my points changes from

Anyone know what a Sororitas Repressor is?
The 'Search' on both GW and Forge World turns up zilch?
-
AFAIK it's a Sororitas only Rhino variant that's OOP right now.
-
AFAIK it's a Sororitas only Rhino variant that's OOP right now.
Thanks - they seem to have the Exorcist currently plus the Immolator and that's it.
Were they allowed a Razorback in the past - whatever that is/was? :engel:
-
The immolator was the razorback equivalent for sisters. The repressor was half way between the rhino and immolator
You’re Google fu is weak

The rules are in the FW astartes book
-
The dominion squad are the real choice unit from sister book. They get a free vanguard move, great when in a transport which allows them to move 12" before turn 1. With five storm bolters they only cost 60 points now, put an imagifer with them and they double shoot on a 4+ each turn. In a immolator, they are a jucy target, but can move 36" if you use the AoF on them.
Seraphim are a really week unit. Migth be worth it for a deep striking unit of 5 with bolt pistols for 55 pts
Id go with a battalion detachment with a cannones, priest, two squads of 10 sisters in rhinos and one of 7 in rhino and a medic. With 2 melta guns
Another detachment with cannones, two imagifers and two squads of 5 dominion with storm bolters in imolators with heavy bolters for cost. Also a squad of 5 seraphim just with bolt pistols

Back to the Astolat 352nd.
I've been working hard of the force. Here is the latest unit, finished this morning. A hydra/wyvern, depending on what I need for the game.

Nice units! Are the wyvern/ hydra guns in magnets? Love the control panel.
The squad helmets are great. Where are these guys from?
-
I was going to ask about the new guard figures, too.
-
The infantry are from anvil industries. Great models, the ranges are amazing.
The hydra gun barrels are just pushed in. There should of been a reducer for the Wyvern barrel but I left it off to allow the auto cannon barrels to go in.
-
Your painting is incredible. Everything's so clear and precise. Awesome!
-
Thanks, its all washes and dry brushing mostly. Only the details are painted properly.
I use a pen for the fine black details like the eyes and book script.

-
Ugh, that Taurox is well painted, but the mini-threads instead of wheels really look like crap. One of GW's rare complete "what were you thinking" moments. Fixable though!
There are a couple of alternatives out there that make the Taurox look pretty cool:
https://victoriaminiatures.com/collections/vehicles-and-bits-1/products/apc-wheel-and-suspension-kit-gamer-edition
https://www.zinge.co.uk/collections/vehicles
Of course, if you actually like the way it looks ignore everything I said except for the bit about being well painted.
-
I love it all. I've been flip flopping on whether to get bullgryns or a hydra as my next purchase. Both would be a great addition vs the stuff I usually face, and I've been incredibly impressed with how you've painted both of them. Gah! I love the skull symbols on the bullgryns.
-
Those Bullgryns look brutal AF! I love your dark and gritty style. Excellent work.
-
May I present my commissar lord, ready for action. To keep those Bullgyrns under a firm eye.

-
He looks fantastic
-
Under a firm eye? You mean a hardend fist surely :)
This project is coming on great! Eager to see it during the eurobash :)
-
Thanks, i'm not 100% happy with flesh areas but i'm going to move in. Its an army, not a single model afterall. Also i don't think i'm going to use him much ATM anyway
I've assembled another two taurox for my second platoon, making three. I've used the Zinge industries half track bits to get rid of the track units they came with, thanks Aldaris. I will be going back and changing the first one as well later. I think they look much better, and it was money well spent, as they aren't cheap.

Another update. I've had a little break from my guard to paint marines. I went to a small local tournament so had to get my Revilers 8th ready. It paid off as I get best painted army.
I have finished off the two taurox's and converted on of the vanquishers to a punisher. I just want to roll 49 dice in one go.

Good job
-
when the Tauroxes were released werent they widely scorned, model wise?
I think they look great fr1day
-
Finlay, it was the track units everyone hated. I bought the half track kits from Zinge industries (where you got the crush-able barrels) it makes them look good. Like a modern vehicle.
-
They do look way better as half tracks.
-
Agreed!👆
Awesome as usual.

Well doe on the painting too! :eusa_clap: :icon_cool:

It looks great Friday! And congratz on best painted!

These Tauroxes look good! Great colors! :biggriin:

Thanks guys,
The 352nd are marching to war at a local small tournament!
My local gaming store are holding another 12 person tournament on May 6th and Im going to take my IG army this time. The last one, on the 10th March, I took my Reviler marines. Came 6th for overall but won the painting competition. This time I want both! SO i'm jumping on the internet tornament meta and doing a triple detachment force, a Custodes commander detachment, an Imperial vanguard and a guard battalion. I've also been toying with a marine battalion instead of the IG battalion. However on this board I will keep to the guard option. I am also, to an extent, trying to limit my need to paint a load more stuff.
army is 1750pts max and we are playing 3 missions from the chapter approved book, race to victory, kill confirmed and scorched earth
Here goes
Custodes supreme command detachment 480
3 shield captain on dawn eagle jet bikes with hurricane bolters
Imperial soup vanguard detachment 458
Primaris psyker
Culexus Assassin
AM priest
10 Crusaders
Valkryie
IG battalion detachment (Tallarn doctrine) 811
Co commander - warlord (grand strategist)
Co Commander - Kurovs aquila
2 infantry squads - plasma guns and plasma pistol
Infantry squad - plamsa gun and bolter
HWT - 3 mortars
2 sentinels with auto cannons
2 Leman Russ with battle cannon and heavy bolter
Leman russ punisher with 3 heavy bolters
Total 1749
The three shield captains are very en vouge at the moment and provide some serious combat potential and mobility to the list.
The culexus gives me a little anti psyker, which I felt i needed after the last time with a lot enemy psykers
The rest of the imperial vanguard are chosen because they are elite, thus needed for the detachment, but also non of them have the regiment key word so don't lose out to the combined detachment.
There was not dedicated anti air last time so I plan on using the Valkyrie and the priest and crusaders for a glorious first turn grav chute tar pit assault.
Lastly the guard battalion is there for the command points and board presence. The infantry are fairly mobile and the tanks provide some serious fire power. Sentinels to push out and secure ground to protect against deep striking. also two commanders remain my CP's on 5's and opponents stratagems give me a chance to get more back. But spread out to limit risk.
What I would like is some input on the list and any tweaks you'd suggest. The first on my mind is whether 10 crusaders are better or worse than 3 bullgryns with mauls. Ideally the crusaders have the priest and primaris casting +1sv for that sweet 2++ to tarpit units. Also they have 30 -3sv attacks, though at S3.
-
I've had good luck with a very similar vanguard detachment. The crusaders in particular have been able to cut things up. I'm not sure how I'd compare them to Bullgryns, I havn't got any of the big guys. The crusaders have filled a very important melee role in my army. Buffed with a priest and Primaris I think is good. Plus the priest's aura can affect others units nearby.
-
Just got into this thread. Looks incredible! What an army!
:::cheers:::
-
Starting my painting prep early for the tournament this time around and getting the new squads painted. I have ordered all the remaining infantry miniatures for the army from Anvil Industries over the weekend so have plenty to do and need to clear the painting desk.
First up is half of the 10 man crusader squad I want to try out.
Hope you like them. Next up will be a 5 man Kasrkin squad, they are started and in a new colour scheme that matches the Astolat 352nd scheme
-
Those look pretty awesome! I'm currently just painting up some various Reaper Bones knight figures to use. Your guys look so much more uniform and good.
-
lovely, as per usual.
-
What bitz make up those crusaders?
-
Damn!
Are these crusaders of the inquisition or does that apply anymore?
-
Thanks Finlay
Aldaris - they are all anvil industries bits except the purity seals. I added these last minutes, literately, even as the transfers were drying, as I felt they didn't look religious enough. They are GW bits from my SM bits box. I think it really makes a difference to them.
AB - no, these are imperial guard crusaders from the codex. They are adeptus ministorum troops so dont get the regiment keyword. They are for my imperial soup detachment as there is no drawbacks to using them in it. Same with the priest and primaris psyker that join them in the valkryie.
I am trying to get the confessor kryinov model to make into a primaris psyker/cardinal so the crusaders have some one to be a bodyguard to. That's the fluff of them. A fluffy little ministorum force along with a culexus.
I have also just ordered the Inquistior Eisenhorn model from GW, as it's back in stock today. exciting times.

I tried out my tournament list last night against a black legion army in one of the missions we will be playing, rush to victory, from chapter approved. This was my first time using the three custodes shield captains, culexus and crusaders in Valkyrie.
I tables my opponent in turn five, but I was behind in victory points at that point. Sorry I didn’t get any pictures.
My thoughts on the list are:
Valkyrie is expensive for what it does. 142 Pts for a rubbish shooting platform. However it does allow a first turn charge with the crusaders which is super useful. Delivered with the priest and primaris psyker they held up and, eventually killed one flank of the chaos army. They get out 9” away, move 6” then can charge. Set up to surround a rhino with 8 berserkers, an exulted champion and a dark apostle (warlord) in. Once surrounded they couldn’t disembark and would of died with the vehicle. However I only rolled two for the charge and only just got in. I ended up charging with primaris and priest as well who got further. However didn’t managed to surround the rhino. I did a couple of wounds to rhino but the passengers got out next turn and berserkers charged and chopped up the primaris psyker, but only killed on crusader due to the 2++. I then interrupted with crusades and killed 6 of the 8 before they could strike again.
I changed in a shield captain to deal with the exulted champion but the crusaders finished off the berserkers, rhino and dark apostle in a couple of turns and three and the priest walked away.
The Valkyrie however got shot down and did nothing more. However it did suck up the fire from a las cannon predator for two turns till the shield captain engaged it after the exulted.
Culexus- didn’t do much. The only psyker on the table was a daemon prince so at the upper end of psyker range. His weapons are average at best, especially if you only roll one for the number of shots for three turns! He did however pop up when i wanted and took an objective and is very hard to shoot, needing 6’s to hit and a 4++.
The shield captains are really good, but not unbeatable. I lost two, both in combat, one to a maulerfiend (he was fighting two of them due to blasted warptime)and one to the daemon prince. Flat three damage weapons are the main threat. I am planing of using a command point to get the 3++ jetbike for one and using him as a counter attack unit for my main line. To scrape threats off the tanks and guard line. Then use the other two in tandem to aggressively attack the enemy line. I feel they will work better like that. They hit with all their attacks due to the 2+ re rolling 1’s, but don’t always wound even with re rolls on charge. S6 is good but it’s 3’s most of the time. Maybe my rolling was bad.
The pair of standard leman russ tanks are great. They kick out so much firepower. I love them. The punisher is good to. But takes lots of time to roll nearly 50 dice, especially with the vengeance for Cadia stratagem allowing the role to grand wound. Not that it’s a bad tactic though.
Trying it again next week against a blood angle force, very much a combat army.

Crusaders look awesome!

Painted my first addition to this army along with my last batch of Deathwatch. He's a 3rd Ed Priest from the first Sisters of Battle release in the Nineties. I've had him for since then. Previously his last role was as a DOW duellist with two flint lock pistols. He's had them removed and a metal commissars chainsword and the plastic Cadian las pistol.

As much as I dislike the SOB faction as a whole, these priests are great. I love that conversion and your paintjob. :eusa_clap:

That guy looks fierce! I would not want to mess with him.
