As far as I know, the main problem with multi barrelled cannons was the reloading time.

Understandable, but they were for closer defence rather than assault, being used to defend larger guns from attack and so reloading wasnt an issue really

So they did have their uses. Well thanks for clearing that up for me, I always thought that the reloading-time of such a combo-gun where too long to be of any use.
