Warhammer - High Fantasy?

Yeah, you kinda lost me there matey.
Warhammer has always been high fantasy. Winds of magic, warpstone moon, dragons, demons, lizardmen, undead, interdimensional portals. The Empire is the 'lowest' fantasy faction in it, and even then there are Wizard schools, griffons, and priests channeling the power of a mythical demigod.

Of course, compared to the high fantasy of Warhammer, AoS has left the atmosphere completely, both figuratively and in fluff.

For me the definition of a high fantasy game is D&D. Warhammer may have all the things that you've mentioned but it's still a grim, down-to-earth setting with magic that was very unpredictable and monsters were generally rare and not omni-present. Then again I see what you meant in your post. ;)

So there's supposedly monstrous news tomorrow about TWW. I'm betting on either dragons or neutral horrors that populate the map.

I hope they'll do them justice. We've already seen Giants, Griffons, Demigryphs, Arachnaroks and Wyverns. Dragons would be most welcome, as well as Hydras and maybe some Manticores or Cocatrices.

Yeah, I saw Angry Joe's rant about this.  And Jim Sterling did an article about it too.  I wasn't even planning on getting this any time soon and yet it still annoys me.

Yeah, the total war community is in a uproar about it. The reasonable few who have no real problem with it are saying how you can just refund it on steam or that chaos will still be part as a npc faction so playing as them is just a perk. The upset majority are having none of that and, from their earlier disappointments with no flag bearers and dismounting options, have branded CA and Sega as the videogame company versions of Satan and are fanraging everything from boycotting the game to downright piracy.

I find it all very ridiculous. It's just a game that'll get patched, cheaper and come with the dlcs in it after a year or so. If you hate it just wait for the improvements or buy it on Steam.

Here's my favorite fanrage threads so far.

DLC from day 1 is bullshit.
That means there is extra content already in it that they want you to pay for.
It's Resident Evil 5 all over again. There was a co-op mode already coded into the base game. All you had to do to unlock it was a 300 kb download to free it. WHICH YOU HAD TO PAY FOR.
It's your own damn fault.

Truth be told, everyone knew that CA has a shitty DLC policy. I don't like it, but it will not disuade me from playing TW: Warhammer. THis game has a potential to be incredible and besides I'm playing Payday 2 regulary and need to buy every, single DLC that comes out for it. I've gotten used to stuff like that. ;)

Best dlc policy I've seen is with monster hunter 4. A good mix of great content and being free. :biggriin:

The fanrage is worrying, though. The large amounts of people who are outright bragging that they're going to pirate the game makes me concerned for the game's future.

I'm not too annoyed by it, but I think that removing features from the game that is already done and selling them separately on day one is just a con.

The only things that could ruin the game are bugs, gameplay issues and patching problems. All these are on the CA's side, and every one of them was an issue with the older TW games.

when they give you 4 factions, yet ask you to pay dlc for the other 10, its more than "a few missed details".

How many factions were in rome total war... faction packs are the worst type of bullshit dlc.

yeh this model totally puts me off.

As long as they give us empire and chaos I'm happy. I hope we will be able to recreate the feeling of the Warhammer Online game, together with the masiveness.

Kolek The Suneater  looks badass enough.

btw any1 knows of any miniature of Kolek???? I really would like to have one. Just not prepared to pay 100s of cash, though.

Interesting. I'm wary of buying this, though. Knowing this PC I won't be able to run it.
