You are mistaken, sir. French Fry refers to the deep fried method of cooking, so you would often see terms such as French Fried potatoes, French Fried Okra, etc. They are then properly termed French Fried potato slices, or fries for short. Potato chips are thinly sliced, meeting the definition of chip, and were invented in the United States. You got to name Worcestershire (pronounced Woostershire for no reason) sauce so we get to name stuff we invented. In fact, only Britain uses the term 'crisp' to describe potato chips. That makes you wrong and weird.
