Stitch's not-so-empire staff tourny blog...
« on: March 04, 2008, 03:39:48 AM »
okay,  so it's not empire,  buuuuuut someone has to represent our store for LotR at this year's staff tourny.  (most of the ruddy gits are playing imperial guard!)

anyways,  a quick few in-progress shots of my eastern host;

okay,  so it's only 3 guys,  but i should very shortly get quite a few more up-to-date pics from our assistant manager who acts as our store photographer!  (his laptop is acting wierd apparently...)
the fun bit now is that the tourny is only 18 days away and i've got about oh...  18 of 64 models done! :icon_eek:  help me,  please help me!

anyways,  hope you enjoy and eventually i'll get some proper empire stuff done in the future! :blush:

cheers!

spray paint the figures black, while that is drying go to craft store or paint store and buy some antique gold wax rub on, grab a couple of make up foam applicators and rub in gold wax, or silver, and then drag across the dried black paint. that just leaves the flesh to paint and a metallic sword. dont forget to varnish when done or the gold wax will wear off. If done correctly it will look like you spent hours shading the gold.  Hope that helps you finish sooner. steveb

UPDATE!

okay,  so the tourny's come and gone and i did have a couple very enjoyable games,  but then i had my last game where i got cheated badly!  (stupid people who can't read their own friggin' rules!!!)

anyways,  here's some more updated shots of what i managed to get done in time;

the easterlings on the march...  about to be ambushed by the rangers of ithilian:(

i still need to get some pics of everything bases & of sauron!  (yes,  i took the jerky way out and sunk 450pts into the big man himself!)
sadly,  sauron did quite poorly...  or rather,  i sucked-out with the dice and didn't even get half my spells off! :icon_redface:

cheers!

they look nice but I find LOTR models harder to paint because they are smaller. Do you have the same problem? And are the Easterlings Metal or Plastics?

your mother:  this is me!
http://s141.photobucket.com/albums/r47/experiment626_01/?action=view&current=Picture002.jpg
i was really,  really cold so my mate lent me his jacket...

castorzor:  i don't really find the models 'harder' to paint per say,  rather they tend to have finer detail which takes more time to get it right!  the armour especially is alot of work as i started off from shining gold,  then added a wash + 3 layers of highlights by mixing mythril silver into the gold...

as for the metal/plastics,  i mail-ordered a whack-load of the old metal spears as they don't break!  (actually,  i'm upto about 34 metal spears!)  all the swordsmen & bowmen are from the plastic set,  while the command models & mounted easterlings are metal...
hopefully my army will actually become decent once GW eventually gets 'round to releasing the entire easterling list!  right now the poor easterlings are easily the worst army in LotR:(  but they do have the best looking models!

cheers!
