Title: Special Offers and Deals
Post by: DariusZero on May 06, 2010, 07:43:21 AM
I figure it would be usefull to have a thread for links an other info on current promotional salesoff, best offers and such - of different brands of miniatures in one place. Post here everything you find on the net.

Rackham is selling 6 nicely prepainted swordmen( they look a bit elfish) for a low price.http://store.rackham-e.com/en/confrontation/lion/paladins (http://store.rackham-e.com/en/confrontation/lion/paladins)

Enigma also has some promotional offers of their miniatures.http://enigmaminiatures.com/prestashop/prices-drop.php (http://enigmaminiatures.com/prestashop/prices-drop.php)

Actually this is a good idea.

I've ordered some of these - 40%+ off normal

http://www.blacktreedesign.com/uk/home.php?cat=2486

There may be offers on some of their other ranges too if you hunt around their website.

Word of caution with Black Tree...

They make some nice figures, and some of their deals/sales are an absolute bargain. But they've got a horrible reputation for shipping times & customer service.

I ordered some figures a bit over a year ago and was one of the more fortunate ones. I got all of my figures in about 3 months. But I've read stories all over other forums (TMP, the WABforum, etc.) about people still not getting their figures, or having incomplete orders after far longer, even up to a year. On the other hand, some people get their figures within a week. So it seems like it's a bit of a gamble.

Also, in spite of the policy written on their web page, my credit card was charged the day after I placed the order, even though when I emailed two months later I was told they didn't have the figures in stock. The policy states your account is only charged when the items ship.

I've been wanting to order some more figures from them, and have been internally debating it since that previous order. But there have been far too many things I've wanted to buy from people that don't have shipping issues, so they've been the ones getting my business.

I keep getting newsletter emails about them getting "caught up" and improving service. So maybe they're working on it. I don't know. Maybe someone else

Yeah, BTD blows.  I ordered a bunch of goblins back in November.  I just received them a couple weeks ago.  It took over 6 months of follow up emails to get the order filled and ofcourse they charged my card the day I 1st ordered.
Theres been lots of buzz about their poor reputation posted on da-warpath and TMP the past few months.

These guys look promising for Reaper minis, 25% off and free shipping on US orders.  Has anybody tried them?  http://www.miniature-giant.com/home.php

Alas, I am a Black Tree victim. Its been 7 months, generally speaking the more popular the range the harder the re-supply in the US. They have had a hard time filling my particular order, I usually give a nagging telephone call every 6 weeks. My order is about 75% filled at this point.

As for how awesome the models are, many ranges are worth it. The dwarfs I ordered are absolutely awesome, very war-hammer role-play dwarf or third edition. I like them very much and cant wait to paint them( when they all come in). The Harlequin ogres that they used to make are a fantastic deal and I love the halflings. They are absolutely right on. I can also speak very highly of their dark elf range. I have a friend with an army and they look absolutely fantastic in the right paint scheme.

I would call up and ask about availability before ordering. The guy is nice enough, but their supply problems are crippling their company. Under current circumstance I have a hard time backing their product but if the model will do it for you... go for it.

In the mean time I am still waiting for about 20% of my order.  :eusa_wall:

I have a bunch of their Dark Elves too, they are fine but the Witch elves are to be avoided... crude neanderthalic  looking things.

Their Dwarves are very nice.

As I understand it the guy that runs the place out of Texas is also the owner of the company.  I've thought about stopping by his place and having a word with him.  The guy always offers extra free minis to make up for their crap service, I wonder how much I could get away with if I came knocking on his door.

I only ordered a few times from BTD, but they were fine.

Its going to take a lot for them to make me want to buy from them given this reputation they have built up. Shame.

I believe that some of the Black Tree ranges were sculpted by old time GW sculptors. Hence some of them looking a little similar. (I think Kev Adams did some of the O&G, for example.)

orcboy:  I order from miniature giant quite a bit, and they are really good all around.  Only real issue is all they have are reaper, but the do stock ALL reaper stuff.

Huh. I posted up above and then went away for the weekend. Came back and emailed Black Tree asking when my minis might be coming as it says 2-5 days shipping, and it's now 14 days since I ordered.

They have an address in the UK in Cornwall, and give the impression minis are spun in this country - however an email response did say something about some of the guys living in the USA these days?

I picked up an old model of theirs at Salute which had an address on the blister card in Hucknall, Nottingham - I queried this with them via email, and that was the old 'Harlequin Miniatures' set up - I assume they took it over.

I ordered stuff I had seen in Padre's armies.

Darius, it says it is on a 50mm base, so it's actually kind of small. It looks like it is probably about 120mm from nose to the tip of its tale. It definitely doesn't have the big sale like wings of the modern GW dragons.

I do like it though. Don't know if I'll be picking it up anytime soon.

I'm still having troublle with Black Tree - no minis, and they have taken my payment back on the 5th of May.
Sent them a nice email back on the 18th asking for news, and no reply.

So sent them another via the contact us on their website last night - I was polite, but pointed out some of the general comments here, and how they did not seem to be following their own terms and conditions.

I wait to see.

Pity really as having seen Padre's models I was probably going to order some more.

It's more like the size of a really big pegasus or something, but still, not a bad model.

I'm thinking it'd be perfect for a high elf sun dragon, since the background says that they're younger and smaller.

Well my Black Tree "Warriors of Islam" turned up today and IMO - given the sale price - they are really good value .............

...... so as they are still on offer, I have ordered a few more.
I suppose if I forget about them then they will be a nice surprise when they turn up ......... in August.  :engel:

I notice Foundry had a 20% off offer over the UK Bank Holiday, running until Weds June 2nd - even at 20% I still find their stuff expensive though.

I also see GW are now Post Free for the future.  :icon_exclaim:

Well I'm still waiting for my second order from Black Tree - it was placed 3rd June - date of the above post.

One annoying thing I have discovered is that it took my money in english £s on the site, and it has come through on my credit card bill exchanged into dollars to a Texas payment, and it has cost me another c.£2.35

I think that is sneaky.

So we have them taking the money straightaway, when the website says when they dispatch.

They take your money in dollars and not GBP, and I cannot find where it tells you that on their site.

Go and complain at some official place (consumer institution etc.). That sounds like something they'd like to know.

Some retailers do stuff like that deliberately, because they don't expect people to make a fuss.

I have just received my shipment of different minis from the Ludik Bazaar game store. They're selling among other things quite a few different companies of miniatures - like Helldorado which are on a discount right now. you can also buy spare parts - like weapons and even whole minis if they come in one bloc , very cheaply.
It took - the whole procedure from paying until receiving the package - few days more than a week - from France to Slovenia. The guy that runs the shop is very friendly, he answered all my questions over e-mail literally in seconds, and when I got my shipment - surprise - I got a gift, a beautiful rackham mini ( yes I know some of you guys hate them ), worth at least 10€.

SO, my fingers up for this company!

As I have mentioned elsewhere I have been browing round the historical scene, and I ordered a couple of books from Warhammer Historical today.

http://warhammer-historical.com/acatalog/Warhammer_Ancient_Battles.html

You can buy one book and they offer another at half-price.

Strange thing is you can buy a cheap book at £13.00 and then get a £20.00 at half-price

Also Warlord Games are doing another couple of deals revolving around the WAB 2 book.
[It is £32.00 retail at Warhammer Historical as above, and then there is shipping of £3.00  - so £35.00 total - you can get a half price book as well, but I got other books instead as above.]
If you choose to get it from Warlord it's £30 and free shipping - you don't need to even if you buy the deal though.

I had a browse around the usual suspects and couldn't find it cheaper.

I may sticky this thread - what do you think.  :icon_question:

. and would it be better in the Counts' Tavern   :icon_question:

I highly recommend Manticgames. I bought Malak's Legion of death (undead of course) with a 15 % discount I think it was. I got:

1 Collectors Edition Morgoth the Faceless (Necromancer) because I also bought a subscription to Mantic Journal.
1 Vampire on undead Pegasus
2 Necromancers
1 Revenant King
1 Revenant Standard Bearer
40 Skeleton Warriors
40 Revenants
20 Ghouls
5 Limited Edition Revenant Knights
5 Wraiths
2 Catapults
1 Mantic Bag and 36 I believe Mantic Points.

Standard Prices, £ 99 for the army deal and £ 10 for the subscription and shipping £ 8. I got all of it for £92.65 great price if you ask me. They don't have this offer atm, but they have new offers up all the time. And I must say I am impressed by the models, especially for that price. Haven't got the knights, wraiths or the vampire yet though as they obviously have a really high demand for them, but got the rest 1 week after I ordered.

Anyone dealt with these people?

They seem to have reasonable pricing on the Wargames Factory stuff I was looking at in particular.

Warlord games have equivalent of 25% off on their plastics - buy 3 get 4th free.

Careful with the wargamesfactory stuff, they're about the lowest quality of the current 28mm plastics (except maybe the hät ranges). I got the zombies and only use them as conversion fodder with lots of greenstuff as they are really that bad.

Perry, Gripping Beast, Warlord Games, Victrix, Immortal Miniatures and even Mantic (the ghouls are a very nice kit) do better plastics.

Thanks.
I am sampling at the moment - I have lots of Warlord Games Celts and Romans, and am looking at a bit of mix-and-matching / converting.
I got a box of their Vikings, and I have a box of the Gripping Beast ones - I will go and have a closer look.

Edit:

Well it may be because they are a later set, but I am quite impressed with the WH Huskarls - comparing them to the Gripping Beast set, the details look on a par.
I have had a historical contact suggest that there is something wrong with the Huskarls clothing whic I didn't understand, but not something I will worry about.

I guess that maybe the WF early stuff which I believe was their Romans and Celts may be plainer - however that may be ok for my needs.
If you want archers or slingers from Warlord Games I am pretty certain you have to buy metal models - now they are not particularly expensive and look nice, but there seem to be several slinger and bow arms on the WF plastic sets, which will give me a much cheaper option for missile fire.

We'll see - I am trying to take photos as I go.

Title: Re: Special Offers and Good Deals Info
Post by: Midaski on July 23, 2010, 06:00:25 PM
GamesPoet inferred in another post that WF plan to redo their Romans - I guess because it was one of their first kits and unadventurous.

On a sort of brighter note - my Black Tree stuff appeared today - so June 3rd ordered - delivered July 24th.
Money taken June 3rd.
Money taken in US Dollars, though my order was processed apparently to a UK address in GB pounds, costing me just under £2.00 on the exchange.

The models are good value at the sale price I got - the service and communication is shit.

Edit:
I have now double-checked the order; I have a little note in the box acknowledging that one set is missing and it is 'to follow'.

AND on further examination I seem to have some 7 extra spearmen - no note about that, so I am not sure if it was a gesture due to the delay or an error in packing.

I've bought some of the Wargames Factory Saxons.
Having hunted around best UK deal by far is here:-

http://www.wargamesandminiatures.co.uk/Hammer_of_the_Gods/cat268515_282664.aspx

So far everyone else has them at £14.50 a box, but they are only £12.50 here.

Free postage at £30.01    so just 3 boxes for free post and save £6.00 as well

Be aware though that the armoured bodies for both the Huscarls and the Thegns are the same - You get 4 bodies per sprue with 24 separate arms, then there is a separate heads and weapons sprue for Vikings and Saxons.
It therefore follows that the Saxons Fyrd box, has the Saxons weapons sprue so the heads (12 choices) are the same as the Thegns

You can go to the WF mainsite to see more details on the sprues.

Northstar have further deals going on for a few days.

Some Warlord Games metal at varying discounts:
http://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=23&cat=137&sub=179&page=1

5 of the 9 are half price

A bit of Artizan that might interest some
http://www.artizandesigns.com/list.php?spo=1&page=3

vikings - last item on that page (3) and it might be worth a browse at pages 1 & 2

and finally:

http://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=36&page=1

Generally I am not a great lover of Renegade, as I feel their body proportions are a bit out - particularly some of their heads seem too big, the Libyan Cavalry for example, but I have been tempted by their Saxons - it works out £0.50 per metal mini.

Not sure how good a deal this is - Foundry are bloody expensive even with 30% off.

Lots of stuff being discontinued - some ancients and ECW and a couple of Medieval packs amongst other stuff.
Who knows who it might appeal to?

Wargames Factory have their Saxons and Vikings at 35% off until August 31st.

Probably better if you are in the good old USA ................

http://www.wargamesfactory.com/webstore/hammer-of-the-gods

Ignore the 3 x and 7 x as they don't apply to the reduced price according to the home page.

http://www.wargamesfactory.com/announcements/end-of-summer-sale

They also have some small Persian sprues at 70% - probably sprues left over from the muli-sprue idea, which they have dumped I believe and they are now putting the Persian infantry on a new bigger sprue.

Edit:
Not for the UK - I tried 2 boxes of Bondi at $13.97 each and 20 sprues at 70c and it wanted $41+ shipping ..........

Foundry still have their clearance going on:

http://wargamesfoundry.com/clearance/single_packs/?sector_id=&page=all&utm_source=Foundry+Miniatures+Ltd+List&utm_campaign=95683cdca1-extra_20_OFF_all_Clearance_items_8_23_2011&utm_medium=email

That should take you to the page.

Then there is an extra 20% until 31st August if you use the following code at checkout

Quote
Discount code: BADGER88

To get the EXTRA discount enter your special discount code in the box marked Discount Voucher

YOU CAN USE THIS OFFER AS MANY TIMES AS YOU LIKE!
OFFER ENDS 30th AUGUST 2011

It gets some of their infantry packs down from the sale price of £9.60 to £7.68 - but of course you have to factor in their £8.00 postage to the UK, unless you spend £80 for post free.

8 Figures normally £9.00 are now £5.40
UK postage is 10%, rest of the world is more.

They also have some knights and men at arms figures at half-price.

http://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=96&cat=177&page=1

Not too familair with 'Strategia E Tattica' I believe they are Italian, and also do some WWII figures - I found a review of those by White Knight online.
Not sure if I like these medieval figures personally - some of the head positions seem a bit odd.
Still the prices may suit some.

Warhammer Historical currently have a 1/2 price sale on. (A GW subsidiary having a sale does sound hard to believe doesn't it.)

I've bagged myself a copy of Over the Top. If historicals appeal to you, I thoroughly reccomend both 'Trafalgar' and 'Warmaster Ancients'.
'Legends of the Old West' seems to have a good following too though I've not played it myself.

Is Northstar pretty reliable?

Have my eye on a couple of their Project X figures for a WWII Halloween event...

They are a well established distributor, who not only supply to gamers direct, but also act as a wholesaler to smaller companies.

I've bought from them probably 20 times.

You don't see discounts and they charge postage - they have a pretty primitive payment system which does not show the postage, which they tell you they are going to charge you.

I tend to follow them on twitter and pick deals from their bargains section a lot.

Had one problem once with a figure missing from a bargain deal - sent it straightaway.

Maelstrom is having another 30% off everything sale before they move their warehouse next week.  They also have lots of SAGA stuff in stock, so if you want to give it a try, better get there quick!

Quote
Hi there,

The Maelstrom Games (www.maelstromgames.co.uk) warehouse move is finally going ahead at the back end of next week - finally! - but there's still a fair amount of stock we'd like to shift before we move; so we're giving you all 20-30% off UK RRP on certain ranges, as long as you buy stock, from today until next Friday only!

THE WAREHOUSE IS MOVING!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's right, you read it correctly: the Maelstrom Games warehouse, which has been crammed to the rafters for a good long while now, is moving from the Eye of the Storm to a new location a couple of miles away in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. This means we can work more effectively, expand our operation to bring in lots of the superb ranges out there that we don't already stock and, of course, future-proof existing ranges, which seem to grow exponentially every week. The Eye of the Storm, of course, will still retain our amazing shop, gaming hall and bar/restaurant, and you'll still be able to collect in store (either the venue or the new warehouse) should you wish!

The move will occur the weekend after next but, to ensure we can execute the move over a weekend and minimise disruption to our customers as much as possible, we're trying to ensure the excess stock we hold on certain ranges is greatly reduced. That means we won't have to take as much to the new warehouse and thus perform the move much quicker - and of course generates some cash to restock once we settle in!

To that end, we're offering you an amazing 30% off UK RRP on any stock we hold for any product - except for Flames of War products, which we are setting at 20% off UK RRP, and Templar's Forge, which are at 50% off UK RRP - until Friday, 12th of October 2012 at midnight (GMT)!

YOUR WAREHOUSE MOVE VOUCHER
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The voucher will work on all the items in our webstore that are IN STOCK ONLY, but it will NOT work on any out of stock items or pre-orders, nor anything within our eBay store.

Your voucher code is: WAREHOUSE-MOVES

To use this voucher simply register on the webstore, www.maelstromgames.co.uk (if you haven't already), copy and paste the code into the Voucher field in your basket when you have selected the items you want, press 'REDEEM', and the webstore will do the rest. You are not limited to one purchase and, indeed, we would ask you to recommend us to your friends with this voucher!

Remember though that this voucher is intended for the webstore only - it does not apply to any of our auctions or Fixed Price items on eBay.

Happy Ordering!

They also have a few Perry WotR boxes eligible on this deal.

It's not showing on the website, but it does work when you get to your basket - I know I've just nicked the last Eropean Mercenaries box.
Unfortunately they don't have any Perry Cavalry or Fireforge Games Medieval cavalry either - pity 30% would have been great.

Had another email about an hour ago, and they are increasing some discounts.
Went and checked and it said they had 3 boxes of Perry WotR cavalry now.

Been trying to get them through the checkout for 20 mins.

The site is very slow ...... must be busy  :engel:

Also it would appear that there are some internet rumours about them - from the tone in the email I guess suggesting the move is because they are in trouble and/or they are going bust and the sale is to get cash in.

Edit:
Bo**ocks it crashed and I lost them - someone obviously beat me to it  :icon_twisted:
Should have spotted the email in my inbox earlier.

It would appear that there is a thread on Dakka speculating upon their viability
Title: Re: Special Offers and Deals
Post by: Timbor on October 09, 2012, 10:17:32 PM
I got the email that many ranges are at 40% off now... had to place another order  :engel:

I am not sure about the rumours on the interwebz, but I know there is a thread on LAF complaining about their shipping and response time.  Seemed like lots of folks were getting upset by having all their orders split and shipped separately over the course of a couple months.

It would make sense that that is the main problem - hence why you now can no longer buy items that are not in stock.
Title: Re: Special Offers and Deals

Foundry have some regiment sets at half price on their ebay pages.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/foundryminiatures/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

Works out 50p per infantry figure and I think £2 per cavalry.

I think the postage is not working how they say it will as auctions say £4 in the UK, £5 abroad, and extra items would be free.
It seems to add 50p though for extra items.

I cannot remember which are the recent sculpts that seemed to be pretty poor and who sculpted them?

They are a reputable trader that do virtually all the shows on the UK circuit.
They specialise in books, but also do a lot of figures.
I think they are a bit conservative old school, as their website is primitive, and I am not sure if they have a 'proper' online buying procedure.

I have bought from them a few times and it has always gone ok.

Their prices vary quite a bit, so you have to pick the bargains.
Obviously free postage outside of the UK is of no gain to me whatsoever,  :engel:  but for you it's great.

Sometimes packs are £13 with Free Shipping - other times £11.00 + £4.00 shipping, and on the Buy It Now you don't get the opportunity to haggle over shipping.
If you buy 8 packs on their website you get free shipping, and I think there are free packs deals on some ranges too.

I think that is just the ebay shop and it has been there for quite a while.
If you check their main website the packs are cheaper, but you pay delivery under 8 packs or £80 I think.

However ebay is mainly for old stock and there are a lot of non website lines.

I should also clarify they have a couple of other ebay sites -

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Flyte-of-Fantasy?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/castingroomminiatures?

Some of their late 2000s stuff is not really worth £2 per mini, so you have to pick and choose - I personally feel a lot of their stuff is overpriced.

Just spotted a tweet on the North Star page that they are winding down the Avatars of War range, and will be having a sale tomorrow - Tuesday - not sure - so if you want to consider getting something, it may be worth a look.

https://twitter.com/Nicknorthstar

They will probably show up on their Bargains page here:

Huh. Wonder why. Death of wfb perhaps?
Always thought they were nice albeit a bit pricey.

Well North Star are primarily a wholesaler to shops and other dealers, so they will not carry lines that sell slowly.
AoW have always been very nice but pricey, and so the volume of sales is not there to merit stocking I imagine.

I have bought some of their plastic dwarfs on special offer - I think I have a set of each of the three sets, and got 20 figures for around 65p each.

fuck, totally forgot about the sale. Was going to buy some dwarfs and maybe some Gobbos!

there's one smoking a pipe which is lovely.

Ah! This is what Finlay meant by a "dwarf sale". :icon_lol:

And Midaski probably figured I'd never figure it out. :engel:

Course when I checked in a second time, most fo the sale items were gone already. :icon_eek:

Although, the "Longstreet" rule book is tempting.  No cards though.

No
I'd seen you reference Northstar, and assumed you knew about them and regularly checked their site.
I check their twitter page most days - being a large UK wholesaler they have their eye on most things going on in the gaming market, and refreshingly don't touch any GW stuff ...................

................ of course neither do most LGS these days ...............  :engel:

I didn't even see this last post above until this thread was referenced elsewhere, and I'm here more often than over at Northstar.  Also, there's just too much on the internet nowadays to see everything all the time.  Plus, despite Northstar seeming to have a very good selection of figures, there's always that overseas postage that us folks over here in the States are faced with when we order from the mother country.

I use humblebundle all the time. It's great. Lots of stuff for cheap, just be aware your not getting physical books. That particular deal will give you PDF's and ebooks. A large portion of the content is 40k, mixed between Horus Heresy and 40k, with the rest a mix of age of sigmar and old fantasy. it's also only the starting books in the series.

Essentially a massive Get Started with Black Library bundle. I myself am probably going to pick it up soon.

Titan Forge have a sale on, including 30% off their few Empire related miniatures.

e.g.

 http://titan-forge.com/defenders-of-the-realm/39-griffon-battle-standard-bearer (http://titan-forge.com/defenders-of-the-realm/39-griffon-battle-standard-bearer)

A word of caution - I just discovered their "Dragon Empire" (fantasy samurai) range, and now I want to spend £500 on an army that wasn't on my radar half an hour ago...

Mierce Monsters Buy One Get One Free -

Mierce do amazing monsters, usually outside my price range but I always take a look at their special offers, and at effectively half price they are well worth a pop. The range is now HUGE, everything from regular giants to orc wyverns to giant crocodiles to hippo-ogres to demons to... it's hard to pick things out from the list because of their faux-Dark Age names and factions, but the Banelords and Banebeasts are the "not WHFB" minis and a good place to start.
