Getting back to some Empire painting...
« on: April 25, 2010, 07:20:07 PM »
I finally managed to test paint two models for what I hope will be a new fantasy army.

What stunned me with the new plastic is how delicate they are compared to my earlier 6th ed. versions, and after having been painting a ton of Ogres lately a pain in the arse to get right. I think with a little training I will get my act together and do something that resembles an army. These two took about two hours each including my autumn looking base. This will be my army standard (leaders etc. more time).

I assembled more archers today that I will paint soonish.

Oh, and here are some of my maneaters for my Ogre army (appropriate for this forum I think).  :icon_cool:

Those are great, the archers face in particular is especially good. Really subtle lining there. You must have a pretty steay hand.

Yeah! Go for Altdorf . The ogres are awesome  :::cheers:::. I am also interested in how you managed to sculp the hats. What head did you use for the human captain? Is it out of the greatswords box? Your work is definately inspiring - I will return to my painting desk tomorrow.

If my understanding is correct Shadowlord has another modeler do the greenstuff, but he does the painting.

SL ... I think that's the first time I've seen any Empire models painted by you.  It seems like a straight forward painting style, and there seems to be some good black lining going on, comined with the use of washes.  I can see how moving from the larger models used with Ogre armies could make it a challenge to get back into painting the smaller Empire models.

I hate you Shadowlord!!! 2 hours to get those models looking like that...

But you make it up by having it in Altdorf scheme and those are great looking models!!

Hope to see lots more Altdorfians!

Basecoat scorched, brushed earth, thin brush desert, and üba-thin bleached.

Almost! I have had several units, this Ogre as well, commissioned by a friend of mine. However, most of my Ogre army is done by my own hands, including converting miniatures and working with GS. Puffy clothes that look awesome is yet to reach my grasp but maybe one day.

@ All - Thanks!  :icon_cool:

Very nice. I like how you did some extreme shadows/fine black lines while still maintaining a realistic finish.
