Julian nods to the Exarch "we have no problem with the treaty but simply wanted to gather sufficient proof of the exiles and find people we oculd trust before we passed him over. I trust you will punish him sufficiently"

"Do you have more suspects to arrest Exarch? We are willing to help if required, We have some expertise, as you may have gathered, but there is no need to put yourself out to accomodate us, we have our own accomodation in the city."

In the Room Julian will find some beer, or wine if there is none, and drink steadily.
"Think it's linked to the Exiles at all, or some other mess in this damned city"

[when still with the Exarch]

"You can be assured of that," the Exarch tells Julian, his face stern. "All exiles face an automatic death sentence. Their crimes are too great for anything less."

In response to the question about suspects, he says, "As yet we do not, but that is our first priority. If you will consent to wait a while, I might accept your offer of further help. Thank you again."

[in the lounge (Mortus is here too!)]

Max looks thoughtful. "Um, well, we did see all those posters in Goudberg saying to be ready. I'd say it's an uprising against the Directorate - or, at least, the most obviously corrupt members of it." He sighs. "I don't think violent uprisings are a good solution... but it's true that this city's claim to be governed by a parliament is an absolute sham. The rulers may not call themselves Grafs or Dukes but they might as well do. It's tyranny by a wealthy elite."

"Aye," Ragni says, "they should just make Arkat Fooger king. You humans don't live long enough to rule properly."

"That's not really what I mean, Ragni," Max says, "um, I meant there should be a free vote for a proper parliament."

"Sounds like a big mess, Max lad! Someone has to be the boss!"

The lounge door opens and Neralon (the Clan Tallaindeloth elf the party arranged the shipyard raid with) enters. "Good afternoon," he says, smiling. "Congratulations on forcing Sirallonalill to accept the truth! It appears that your actions caused the exiles to make a rash move, and thereby expose themselves. I don't doubt that they will soon be expunged from elftown.

"However, there is a greater danger: my lady still believes there is an exile fleet standing ready close by. While the Exarch and the Clanlords focus on routing out infiltrators, the hammer may fall. Clan Tallaindeloth is therefore sending all its fastest ships to scour the seas for proof that the fleet exists. I will be captaining one such ship... and I am here to offer you - all of you - an invitation to join me. Your skills would be invaluable should we find the exile fleet. What do you say?"

Mortus will mutter something about being too injured for a sea voyage.   She still seems very tired, moving lethargically and barely speaking, her eyelids very droopy

Admund rises respectfully when Neralon enters. He stands quietly at the back of the group, still near the window. He mulls over the revolution in the streets, and the possibility of being at sea.

"Herr Neralon, what sort of resistance are you expecting at sea? I mean no offense, but what use would you expect to gain from us at sea. I can't even swim well. I can't see what aid I'd really offer your more experienced sailors."

"My sword is sworn to Middenheim, and therefore the Graf's champion. I will serve where needed." Admund says, looking to Julian.

"Forgive me," Neralon says, "in my excitement I have forgotten that all of you are tired... and I didn't even consider that you might not be experienced sailors. Please don't feel pressured to join me."

Ignoring the finery of his surroundings, Hans stares out the window at the burning mansions of Goudberg. He shakes his head and rubs his hand over his face. "Not going to end well boys" he mutters to himself. "They've got the money to rebuild their houses, but it's the gibbet for you lot."

Hans starts when Neralon addresses the party, not having noticed the elf enter. He doesn't hesitate with his reply - he can't wait to be rid of this elf business. "Not for me, chasing after your kin on boats. I'm no sailor and I'm not about to start now. Thank you kindly, but I'm keen to return to the city and finish up some other business."

"Aye Neralon. Tempting to go and get stuck into some of those exiles, but a fully armoured dwarf on a boat doesn't sound too smart to me. Good luck in your hunt"

Neralon bows. "Of course. We will meet again soon, when the threat has ended. Good luck to you all." With that, he leaves the room.

The party continue to wait in the lounge, as the Exarch had requested. It's taking a long time for the elves to resolve their discussion. At last, a female elf enters the lounge. She is dark-haired and dressed in plain white clothing of Imperial style. "Good evening," she says. She speaks with an unusual accent. "I am Lauralana. The Exarch sends his regrets, but the meeting of clanlords wears on and he cannot leave it. He does not wish to delay you overlong. Thus am I sent to escort you back to the human city. You are ready to leave?"

The elf leads the party out of the Hall of Winds and through the streets to the Elfgate Bridge. There she stops. "You should be careful," she says, "this is not over." With that, she turns and leaves.

The party cross the bridge into Guilderveld. It is evening, though not yet dark. It's noticeable that there are no watchmen visible anywhere - and there are small groups of people taking advantage of this by looting shops. In the distance, smoke continues to rise above Goudberg ward.

As they walk through the district, the party run into (smuggler, businessman and dandy) Gijsbert Delftgruber who is hurrying towards his father's shop. "My friends!" he greets them, not entirely justifiably, "you should find somewhere safe to wait for this madness to end!"

"Do you know what's happening, Mr Delftgruber?" Max asks.

"Revolution!" Delftgruber says. "No one is really sure how it started. I've heard that someone took a shot at Director Jaan van de Kuypers... some people say he was killed, and his guards fired into the crowd in response. But others say the bullet was deflected by infernal flames, accompanied by a hideous demonic laugh!" Delftgrubber gestures excitedly. "The crowd saw that de Kuypers was in league with the Ruinous Powers and rose up!

"But whatever it was, there are uprisings all over Paleisbuurt and Goudberg, and it's starting to spread to the other districts. All of the Black Caps have been summoned to put down the riots and there's no one to protect the rest of the city. I have to get to my shop before it's robbed. You should find somewhere safe too! Manann only knows what will happen next!" He hurries away.

[where do the party go?]

The party travel through the northern end of Guilderveld, and come within sight of Groenewoud's slaughterhouse. The shop windows are shuttered and the compound's gates are closed. Everything looks quiet. There are still no watch patrols around.

"This cannibal stuff is horrific" says Hans as they approach Groenewoud's shop. "They say the first ghouls were created by the Great Necromancer spreading cannibalism to some hill tribes. The only cannibals I find are mad Khaine worshippers. The sane ones don't do it. If you can call any of them sane. You know, I came to Marienburg because I heard there are ghouls here, but I've not seen anything supporting it. At least I can destroy this madman."

"Aye, nasty business," Ragni says, "like in Wittgenthingy - what was it called, Max lad?"

"Wittgendorf, Ragni. Near Castle Witgenstein. That whole area was cursed."

"Best sort this out now then, before it gets worse. Time for an axing!"

Mortus shakes herself and smiles, the wanness dropping from her face.   Slowly she tilts her head to one side until it is almost resting on her shoulder.

"We can use the riots for cover," she says

The party hear a muffled cry of fear from beyond the gates. To Admund [acute hearing] it sounded like it came from inside the slaughterhouse itself.

"I heard something. Like a scream." Admund says to the others. Glancing around uneasy.

Admund will advance and try to open the gate, or circle the building looking for a way into the compound.
