[when still with the Exarch]
"You can be assured of that," the Exarch tells Julian, his face stern. "All exiles face an automatic death sentence. Their crimes are too great for anything less."
In response to the question about suspects, he says, "As yet we do not, but that is our first priority. If you will consent to wait a while, I might accept your offer of further help. Thank you again."
[in the lounge (Mortus is here too!)]
Max looks thoughtful. "Um, well, we did see all those posters in Goudberg saying to be ready. I'd say it's an uprising against the Directorate - or, at least, the most obviously corrupt members of it." He sighs. "I don't think violent uprisings are a good solution... but it's true that this city's claim to be governed by a parliament is an absolute sham. The rulers may not call themselves Grafs or Dukes but they might as well do. It's tyranny by a wealthy elite."
"Aye," Ragni says, "they should just make Arkat Fooger king. You humans don't live long enough to rule properly."
"That's not really what I mean, Ragni," Max says, "um, I meant there should be a free vote for a proper parliament."
"Sounds like a big mess, Max lad! Someone has to be the boss!"
The lounge door opens and Neralon (the Clan Tallaindeloth elf the party arranged the shipyard raid with) enters. "Good afternoon," he says, smiling. "Congratulations on forcing Sirallonalill to accept the truth! It appears that your actions caused the exiles to make a rash move, and thereby expose themselves. I don't doubt that they will soon be expunged from elftown.
"However, there is a greater danger: my lady still believes there is an exile fleet standing ready close by. While the Exarch and the Clanlords focus on routing out infiltrators, the hammer may fall. Clan Tallaindeloth is therefore sending all its fastest ships to scour the seas for proof that the fleet exists. I will be captaining one such ship... and I am here to offer you - all of you - an invitation to join me. Your skills would be invaluable should we find the exile fleet. What do you say?"
