Outriders and Vanguard rules
« on: July 20, 2010, 09:08:11 PM »
Might be a very obvious question to ask but

Can Outriders - using the Vanguard rules -  move and fire in the same turn ?

I ask because in the Army Book Repeater Handguns are listed as being move or fire.

Outriders use the Vanguard move before the game starts, there's no shooting during the Vanguard move (not even pistoliers)  If they (Outriders) don't move in their first turn then they can shoot, if they move during any movement phase in the game they cannot shoot.

So the answer is yes, they can do the Vanguard move before the start of the movement phase and still shoot as long as they dont move in the movement phase.  So deploy 12 inches away from your side, vanguard move 12 inches.  You should be with 24 inchs of your target.  Now blast them with 2 ranks of outriders.  I plan one unit of 2x5 outriders for 30 STR 4 AP shots on turn one.  Of course they will get the attention of something but they should do some nice damage before they go.  At 239 points its not bad.

Outriders are fast cav, provided you don't give them barding. All fast cav get the Vangaurd special rule. It's under Vangaurd or Fast Cav in the rule book.
