Steam Tank Background...
« on: October 23, 2010, 11:52:33 PM »
Hi looking at an old post where rufas found the 12 - Steam Tank names - is there any history written on where each one is stationed? im particularly interested in the best one for Ostermark.

I think it was this thread where the names were listed. Don't know any background on them other than that though.

That thread is probably the best source.

A LONG time ago, GW had an interactive map on their website which named all twelve, and also outlined their key movements around the Empire.

I wish it still existed, because I'm not sure what to call one of my newly painted tanks...(in Hochland theme)

Using the other thread as referenced:

Conqueror - Cannon and Steam Gun (Standard)
Implacable - Mortar
Old Reliable - Volley Gun and Steam Gun
Sigmar's Hammer - No Cannon or Turret - used as a Ram
Deliverance - Extra Boiler (as a trailer)
Von Zeppel - Fighting Platform

Pride of Nuln - broken, irrepairable - on display at the Imperial Gunnery School in Nuln

Invincible
Lietdorf
Glory of Altdorf
Sigismund
Reiklander

3 of these 5 are also incapacitated. 1 of the 3 incapacitated ones was alledgely stolen by the Skaven and modified with Warpstone.
1 of the 5 has been modified to have 24 repeater handguns situated around its shell at all angles, and does not have a turret (I may have the name of this one at home somewhere).
Alledgely there is one that has been modified to have a Rocket Battery - however I don't think it is official.

It annoys me I cannot find more detail than this, considering the great interactive 'Travels of the Steam Tanks' GW once had on their website.

They had rules for that a long time ago. I even ordered bits to convert my old one into a helblaster varient...never got around to it and now the rules are gone.

They even had one with a fighting platform on top full of engineers with experimental weaponry from the old War Wagon.

It was pretty good.

I converted mine, and took it quite a bit. The 6th ed helblaster rocked (though the Steam Tank variety was -1S from the standard...)

They don't destroy it, they just don't support it anymore.
I only hope that they ideas of the old fluff never disappears.

The fate of the steam tanks.

I'm sure I had this information before, but the life of me I can't track it down at the moment. Does anyone know the names of the 12 steamtanks and what happened to them? I think eight of them were Conqueror, Old Reliable, Implacable, Sigmar's Hammer, Von Zeppel, Reiklander, Black Prince and Deliverance. The last two may be entirely wrong, and I can't remember anything about the careers of the others other than the Reiklander is at the bottom of a swamp somewhere.
Cheers guys.

Edit - As usual I've found some information soon after posting. There are threads it seems, but searchy wasn't cooperating.

Merged it in for you....

The other day, I was going through some old army lists , theme ideas, etc. on various bits of paper, and I found my full list of all the Steam Tank information - which I remember capturing before they took it offline.

When I get home tonight, I will post my notes. Nothing significant from what we already have, but I will be able to fill in all the blanks.

Good idea. There was this link a while back to the old GW site which was recorded somewhere. Anyone still have it?

Someone with a better / more reliable internet connection might want to try this link:
http://web.archive.org/web/20050824041303/uk.games-workshop.com/empire/steam-tank/11/

It is the best I could do with the wayback machine im afraid, but quite often the archive only holds the pages, not the pictures or videos on them :(

I think that record is gone.
Anyway, here is what I captured:

Conqueror
- Steam cannon and gun

Deliverence
- Steam cannon and gun
- Extra boiler

Rieklander - Destroyed
- Steam cannon and gun
- Blew up in the Engineers school as it was being built

Glory of Altdorf - Works only on occasion (such as Engineering Parades and such)
- Steam cannon and gun
- was damaged in Rieklander explosion
- on display at the college of engineers

Invincible
- Steam cannon only - no turret

Sigismund - Lost
- steam cannon only, no top (like Implacable)
- supposedly stolen by the skaven

Pride of Nuln - Destroyed
- Gunpowder cannon instead of steam - no turret
- On display at the Imperial Gunnery school in Nuln

Old Reliable
- Helblaster and steam gun
- Rusty looking

Sigmar's Hammer
- Reinforced Prow, no turret

Von Zeppel
- Steam cannon and fighting platform

Implacable
- Mortar, no top

Lietdorf
- holes in sides / front for 5 repeater handguns and steam gun

In regards to your link, it won't load for me because it tells me I need to download a more recent browser...

I believe there is some info about the Steam Tanks in the Uniforms and Heraldry of the Empire Book as well....... Ill have to check when I get home.

I also seem to remember reading somewhere that supposedly all of the Tanks have been converted back to or are in the process of being converted to the standard "Conqueror Class" with the Steam Cannon and turret Mounted Steam Gun.

That sounds to me like a bunch of BS to justify GW not supporting the varients anymore.

Yup, that's the crap they put in the Heraldry book. Isn't it nice?
