I'm sure Chumley has enough models to field every conceivable build of Empire from 0-10,000 points! And all painted which is the humbling thing for us mere mortals.

The plan is to make it a narrative battle and write a combined battle report with Chumley posting his turns and me mine. We shall post a thread in the battle reports sub-forum closer to the date for all you empire types to express the love for the rats! In the mean time back to the Chumley's Empire Army of Awsomeness.

It fascinates me that every person has a favourite Warhammer army type in mind, eg. for me back in 40K days I would only ever have considered Space Marines, it felt natural. Then 3 years ago getting into painting Warhammer, after a 20 year break, I looked at the GW website and thought, Empire, for sure, only Empire suits me.

On the other hand I know a guy who was 100% Eldar and only considers High Elves, and another guy who is Chaos crazy.

If I ever watch Lord of the Rings I always ask people who they would be if they were in the film, for me I would be Boromir, even though he dies ! lol

Why do people gravitate towards certain armies?

Is it a psychological profile thing?

I like puffy sleeves, spiffy hats, greatswords and magnificent beards. And shoeless monkeyfaces.

That's why I play Empire.

For me it's not a psychological profile thing, at least I don't think it is.

I have Empire, Warriors of Chaos, Tomb Kings, and just a little bit of a Daemons army. At one time I had Bretonnians, they were my first in fact. All very different armies that play differently. Currently I'd say Empire is my favorite.

For 40k, I have Eldar, IG, and I suspect I'll get Dark Eldar at some point. The Eldar are two fast finesse armies, but the IG isn't. Eldar were my first 40k army. Eldar by far are my favorite 40k race/army.

So just basing it on first armies, Eldar have a different play style than Bretonnians do, so I don't think it is a psychological profile thing. Sure there has to be something that draws you to an army or turns you off another. Who knows? Of course, I'm a person who gets more than one army for every game I play, so maybe that in and of itself is part of the psychological profile?

psychology is voodoo anyway i say!

I know a few school friends who went on to become doctors of psychology, and suffer from some mental illness themselves in every case,

medical establishment has little or no thorough understanding of ultimately treating psychological conditions, mostly medication is used to mask the symptoms,

anyway , back to wh!

I'd say that grown men obsessing over toy soldiers is "a psychological profile thing" altogether.  :-)

Anyway, I have always liked the Empire best. I guess different people look for different things in their armies: aesthetics, gameplay, strength, variety etc.

BTW, it is really interesting to follow your collection project. I don't always comment, but I try to keep up and look at everything. Very informative and superb painting as always.

In theory black is the easiest colour for 'new' painters, but if you ask me White is awesome for lazy types... if you water down your paints you can pretty much coat a model easy peasy with some level of shading; put a wash like Devlan Mud (Sorry, Agrax Earthshade ¬_¬) and you're holden!

Hi - has anyone got an image of the range of metal Clerics citadel did in the 80's?

I can only find 3 images, and none have this guy, although his base had GW and cleric written on...
