Reading 9th rules , lolol, queens guard , longbows , hit on 2 st4 ,  plus magic bow for hero , and the honour that gives a hero multiple shots 3 ,,,, I'm forming a dirty gun line army in my mind ,,,, arrow line should I say ,,,, who can also fight with spears .... The rules for volley fire allow all men to shoot in any rank , plus the new rule for spears being armour piercing ,. Is 9th edition a conspiracy to make high elf sea guards invincible ???!!!!!

I think it's more a case of 9th age trying to get the squeaky wheel to shut up by dousing it in grease.  :icon_lol:

Amazing models as always!

I had that banner bearer! I've painted him as well, altough my paintjob sucked, compared to yours.

Just got the Ral Partha archers through...

Lovely but one problem!

They are more like 20mm scale, too small, by far ,

Dang , back on the hunt

Twas a fun evening last night.

I took 3K Elves... 2*30 Bus Sea Guard, 1*30 archers, 3 Hero guys, one in each unit with cheeky Bows, High Prince Lord on Ancient Dragon ,,,,

2 Bolt Throwers , 10 Shadow punters, 25 Flame Wardens, lv 4 mage etheral

Orcs had 60 nasty gobbos, 1*30 + 1*40 Orcs, 6 Trolls, 2*15 Boar Riders, 4 Chariots wolf, 2 Bolt throwers, 2 giants !!!

I was very concerned, he had double my troops it looked like ,

ANyway , long story short, my Dragon smashed his Boars with Orc Lord in Turn 2, lol,

The Ancient Dragon with new ridden monstter rules is sick , T7 S7

Magic was poor on both sides,

My archers got pulped, but he Sea guard fight 5*6 buses with 4 rank spear attaching was amazing , especially as they had 3 turns of archery pre CC,

I love Sea Guard...!

The Trolls got done by the Flame Wardens with Flaming Banner,

The Gobbos took so many arrows they fled,

My Dragon cleared up the back of the board and his Giant's couldnt take on 60 Sea Guard in CC, with heros , ,,,, His Orcs got eventually nerfed by Sea Guard + Dragon,

It was a glorious treat !

More Sea Guard !

Next Game 4*30 Sea Guard, 4K game i recon

My only mistake was that I paid 50 pts for a magic ward on the Prince....

The new rules state that you use the Monsters Toughness, and save, but cant use any items on the rider.....

So that was wasted pts !!!

I didn't take pics!! SORRY

It was late , i'm running on 5 hrs a night sleep at the mo

3 year old boy and a new boy popping out in January !

 :::cheers:::

So no ward saves for riders, now? Screw that!! I'll be using my characters on foot, or as cavalry; if I want a ward save I'm damn well taking one, even if that means no ridden monsters.....

Or I guess I could play 8th Ed. Empire and use Karl Franz! :-D

yeah no more split attack on rider or monster ,,,

you use the T of the monster and it's wounds,

it's one target all in,

I think the Flamespyre would be worthy as a mount , it has a 5 ward save

Yeah, but I don't play High Elves, ergo I can't have a mount and Ward save combo; I'd be the Empire of Sonnstahl, if I picked up 9th Age....

Has everything been powered-up for 9th Age, or were Seaguard a bit OP anyway? I would have thought they'd be squashed by an equal-sized mob of Boyz or Savage Boyz....

In 8th they were seriously powered up. ASF, extra rank (or two I think, according to that BS levy rule from HE armybook), high Initiative, bows... Man it was good to be a HE player in 8th edition...

So they were even more OP than they are in the current 9th Age rule set?

I think so. 9th age brings some overall internal balance. 8th was a playground for Elf players and a pain in the ass for everyone else.

9th is definitely balancing out their power better than 8th did.

The main fly in the soup is the elven players themselves who are the absolute worst complainers in the 9th age forum. Anything that doesn't result in their units being able to stomp anything one-on-one is a unfair nerf made by angry fanboys of the other races. :icon_rolleyes: :eusa_wall:

What's this thing about a 'Levy' rule? I don't remember a 'Levy' rule, and I have the 8th Ed. hardback HE book....

Generally fighting in one extra rank, using spears. One extra rank in addition to one extra rank, from fighting with said spears.
