Help:Army painter coulour primer -which brown?
« on: May 28, 2010, 09:52:58 AM »
Hi!

I bought some miniatures primed with brown army painter primer. Sadly the former owner does not know which brown it was (Available are leather brown and fur brown).

The colour is closest to the GW colour graveyard earth, but a bit darker and not as "yellow".

Has anybody used brown armypainter primer and can help me ti identify which primer it was?

I am not familiar with either brown, but if they were painted more than a year ago it should be Leather Brown. If I remember correctly, Fur Brown wasn't added into Colour Primer range until last autumn when new Skaven hit the stores.

Hm, OK. They are old rats, but i also got a new doomwheel off the same guy. That one is unprimed though.
Are there anywhere on the net pictures of primed miniatures to look at? I could not find any...

I dont know which one it is, but it doesnt make that much of a difference does it?.. I mean just buy the one that is in stores now.

Anyways, i tried with leather brown, i think, and it had a very bad effect! In general the colour primers are hated here in Denmark for their bad effects.
They made my skaven unit's skin all crunchy and are impossible to paint. Many have had the same experience with the colour range..

The armypainter has a nice gallery on its site where you can search example armies painted with certain primers.

Thanks! Should have though of looking for a gallery on theri own page...
I am sure it is Leather brown now.

McKnight: The colour primers are  bit harder to use than "regular" primer. This is due to a smaller spray cone on the armypainter spray cans, you get more paint per area.
If you use this can like a regular (e.g GW Primer) can you get too much paint on the miniature and it gets a rough, cracked surface.
Also the colour primer gives bad results in humid weather.
