Ok today I will start this project for real I already have my Slann (but will have to do some repainting) and lots of bits of the army.

I will make the whole army on a Greek background, actually an Athenian one.

I would like our history experts to add me as much detail as possible as they know about Athens.

What I know centers around:

They had a milita

They had a strong navy

They were very cultivated

They had lots of man on man action

They kicked Persian and Spartan ass

So I would start with my army list and introduce a little background I would like to give the army an Warhammer Fantasy Flaff background

As I donīt know the exact names of the magic items and skills in English I just post what they do.

Army List of the Garrison Forces of Citadel of Dusk

Archmage Alainthir the Golden - with his Gold Golem Avatar
Slann - Army General
All spells of one lore
one extra energy dice per spell
ignore first miscast on a 2+ and one enemy mage suffers the miscast
2 energy dice
410 points

Pericles of Chrace - Saurus hero choice
Great Axe
Amulett that casts shadow horse (calls pegasus)
light armour
shield
124 points

Chiron loremaster of the Citadel of Dusk - saurus hero choice on cold one
(I like centaurs and will get a nice centaur model for Chiron)
cold one
flame sword of -2 on armour
enchanted shield
battle standard bearer
173 points

Aristoteles- skink shaman  lvl 1
2 dispel scrolls
115 points

CORE

18 Hoplites in heavy enchanted armour, musician, standard
(Saurus warriors with spears) Chirons bodyguard
234 points

19 Hoplites in heavy enchanted armour, musician, standard
(Saurus warriors with spears) Theseus bodyguard

10 peltasts
(skinks with throwing spears, though I will sometimes use them with blowpipes)
70 points

10 peltasts
(skinks with throwing spears, though I will sometimes use them with blowpipes)
70 points

10 peltasts
(skinks with throwing spears, though I will sometimes use them with blowpipes)
70 points

Elite

4 Living Statues (Enchanted Golems that count as Kroxigor first models I will glue together)
220 points

5 Shadow warriors scouts (chameleon skinks)
60 points

4 Eagle Riders (count as Teradon riders)
120 points

16 Phenix guard (I will use the HE phoenix guard models as I like them very much these will count as temple guard)
full command
banner that grants -2 to hit for missle weapons that are closer than 12 inch and -1 to the ones further away.
331 points

overall points

first pictures to follow soonish

Good luck on your new project  :icon_biggrin:

About Athens. It was the first city in Greece (maybe the world) that had democracy, due to the bright minds that lived there. Great philosophers and Mathematics , Physics  started their research there.

Actually Athens lost to Sparta, after all these years of war , Sparta and allies were victorious. I don t know how you will actually build this army but the most famous military advances of Athens were : It s great navy, great tacticians, and after some years they used pikes (sarisa), that was firstly used only by Spartans, and after them from Macedonians. Before the pike they used spears and light armor shield, usually carring  a sword, so they could throw the spear and continue fighting.

Correct me if I am wrong anywhere.

I would like to see how you project will go.  :icon_biggrin:

Fluff  of the Garrison Forces of the Citadel of Dusk

First background

Athenians are so much more cooler than Spartans...they are dumb brutes but the Athenians are cultured and democratic and had a stable Democrazy over 180 years.

Warsong of my Army

Forward, sons of the Ulthuan,
Liberate the sacred land,
Liberate your children, your women,
The altars of the gods of your fathers
And the graves of your forebears:
Now is the fight for everything.

From puny gay High Elf to great Athenian Hoplite

here is a picture of the standard HE spear elf with some really nasty painting

with the head removed and some black scorpion head and shield, and a cloak of the wood elf warrior sprue we get this

Front

Right

Back

Left

Larger pic front again

I would leave the shield unglued to paint the model but with some decent painting I think I like my new Hoplites.

I was thinking to go for blue for the cloth and golden for all metal parts of the model with some red jewels all over it. the cloak I would paint white. What would you guys suggest for the colours?

Micro Art Studios do Greek Amazon heads and torso's (that happen to fit to GW elf bodies) if you are interested in adding a unit of those:

I have some of those heads but they are pretty tiny so I am not sure if I will use them at all or use them for the back ranks.

So let me get this right - models that look like Greeks that count as Lizards?

 :icon_question:

So you have gone from poncey HE, to an army that wears skirts, and are pretending they're cold and scaly .... and not poncey at all ..............  :engel:

poncey pounding of pretty people wearing skirts

Well actually no! The Athens are known that they had a very open bisexual society so they would be much more poncey than my "regular" High Elves. I want to make a background of a garrison force of High Elves at the fortress of Dusk on the peninsular at the very end of Lustria. The colony is mixed through with Humans (bearded auxilliary spear throwing numidians) that are used as "cheap" and exchangable lower class on the battlefield. The blunt force of the army consists of heavy High Elf hoplites in enchanted heavy armour that grants them additional protection, toughness and strength but also hinders their reflexes and initiative (so no Speed of Ass yrian nor high I). Also the mages of the garrison enchant living statues to further minimize losses during battle as casualties are not easily replaced.

So yes I replace the poncy elves with even more poncy Greek Elves that also have fun with humans....

Yey to an open society.

So does this have a ring in your ear

You could make a unit of Myrmida knights of the golden sun with the helmets and shields attached instead of the regular imperial one.

I make a unit of Silver helms with the helmets and the small round lion crested shields of the imperial spearmen.

Is this the army your Weib's daughter is going to play? Because you are never going to win enough with your high elves to be allowed to play something else.

She'd probably use it better anyway

Ooohh Snap!

I already am back to play with empire mainly as the High Elf player released me of the curse of the pink underpanty. But I will use the Athenians as both HE and Lizardmen.

The two little ones probably want lots of dragons and horsies in the army.

I am sure my daughter will choose the most unpopular army she can find ... to prove that they do very well if she plays them

She will probably end up with Fandir's pansy high elves ...

One question to you guys....the army colour theme will be blue white and gold for metal parts (mainly blue for cloaks and clothing) so the question at hand (well questions)

do you think blue white gold could work for athenians?

How about the statues? Right now I plan to base them black and drybrush them with different grey tones and white to make them look like statues perhaps even put some grass on them. Does anyone know how I could give them a look like marble?

Blue and white could look cool, however, won't it make them too high elfish? I'd use as much white as possible, with blue trimming, instead of the other way around.

For the metal: how about bronze?
