Banner of Eternal flame vs VC??
« on: January 31, 2012, 10:55:30 PM »
I keep seeing this coming up, i get its uses vs regen but people keep mentioning it's great against undead, why is this?
Do they count as magical attacks for anti ethereal?

They don't count as magical, but the undead (specifically VC) have a ton of units with the regen rule.  The addition of the new mortis engine only makes this worse, as it adds +1 to the regen score of any undead within 12 inches (maybe it's just 2d6, can't remember).  Flaming banner lets you rip right through their saves.

For TK is is nice because their characters are often flammable.

Don´t forget you cause fear against cav and warbeasts....you won´t scare the undead but you also are not scared by them.

See this flaming sword...

*heroic ha ha*

because your horse feared it as it was alive I feel much more confident and not unnerved by the worm wiggling out of your eye socket.....oh and have I mentioned

*heroic ha ha*

are they explicitly not magical attacks? ie it has been FAQed?

a banner that makes your crossbow bolts on fire seems pretty magic to me.
I don't care about the rules.

Pass the machete.

I wish this banner had a different name. I hate that song.

Well, there's this:

Quote
Q: What are ‘magical attacks’? (p68)
A: All attacks made by spells and magic items are considered to
be magical attacks, as are all attacks that are specifically noted
as being magical attacks. Shots fired from magical items are
also considered to be magical attacks, unless their description
specifically states otherwise.

The banner isn't making the attacks, and the description doesn't say the attacks count as magical.

not magical but for 10 points against army that has fair bit of units with some sort of regen you can't really go wrong in my opinion.

My idea is to use it on unit of 15 or so greatswords that would be dedicated monster hunter  (or 5 -6 knights for flank attacks).

If i take knights I almost always take this banner, its cheap and your bound to fight something that doesnt like it.  If there is nothing? who cares your dudes are running around with flaming lances, it looks cool
