My stuff. What so I figure someone has to paint terribly

Unlike the girls on myspace who post pictures saying they are so ugly my stuff actually does look like garbage but unfortunatly this is the best I could do.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c144/Hellrider777/Empire/CountAlbrechtRommel.jpg
Thats my Elector Count.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c144/Hellrider777/Empire/CaptainOldricRichtoven.jpg
This is the Captain I use.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c144/Hellrider777/Empire/ElectorCountonFoot2.jpg
This was Marco Columbo.  Now he is a foot Count or Captain depending.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c144/Hellrider777/Empire/AltdorfMilitiaDetachment.jpg

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c144/Hellrider777/Empire/HammerersofSigmar.jpg
These are my swordsmen who use one handed hammers.  Thus they are the famous Hammerers of Sigmar.

My newest Volley Gun.  Aquisition thanks to the trading forum.

Yea I have kinda shaky hands.  Very hard to do detail.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c144/Hellrider777/Empire/GrandMasterKnightsoftheSanguineLion.jpg
So this is probably one of the only things I think I painted decently.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c144/Hellrider777/Empire/KnightsSanguinLion.jpg
These are the Knights he leads.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c144/Hellrider777/Empire/Truthsayer.jpg
My Truthsayer he pops into the army once and a While.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c144/Hellrider777/Empire/TemplarsdeSigmarsMalleus.jpg
My Knights of the Hammer of Sigmar.  They suck especially the banner.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c144/Hellrider777/Empire/WarriorPriestwithGreatWeapon.jpg
This is another of the pieces I think I did decently on.

Yeah okay so basically this is my empire stuff I didn't post my Night Lords or my Dark Elves even though I think they look much better.  Ohh yea i know my stuff isn't based or isn't based so greatly.  Thats because I stripped my army and repainted it in Holy Break Fluid.  That kinda took the base paint off.  So yes I know that needs work.  Even my dark Elves are a Working Project and only if there is a grand tournament this year coming will I work hard to get bases done.  Even then it will only be the army I am bringing which would most likely be the DE anyway so empire is kinda in a stasis period right now.

Don't be so hard on yourself;mine is no better. At least your troops have eyes.I also have a unit like your hammerers of Sigmar[hammers and shields].We all can't paint to the high standards I've seen on this site, but at least you've made the effort.I don't know how many black primered or single colored forces I have battleed against.

I Thank you but I still think my stuff sucks.  We all played one and 2 colord painted armies.  When I get a new mini for any army I try to get it painted as soon as possible without compromising what skill I may or may not have.  I am wondering If I am allowed to post my Night Lord's or my Dark Elves?

Trust me they aren't that bad. Mine are the same. Those that usually post their pictures are fantastic painters no doubt but they also are a minority. Most of us barely paint to our maximum standard because we don't want to spend so much time on it. No offense to those that do though. I really do like the stuff that people put up.
My school days were the happiest days of my life; which should give you some indication of the misery I've endured over the past 25 years.

After the christmas break I will probly have some more stuff painted and put into my photobucket.  Which I will post on this thing once I have pictures.  By the way when my links go up there do you guys get to go to other photos in the album or is it just the one per link.  Because If you able to see everything I would just have to post the words new pictures on my photobucket.

No prob with the Dark Elf pics, just don't overdo it eh :x

Just kidding.

You stuff doesn't look bad. I've seen bad, believe me, and if you can put more than three colours on sensible spots of a model, you're clear of the "bad" category. I would, however, recommend a few simple tricks to bring your guys to life a bit more:

- Use a thin black ink wash over your metal bits. Easy peasy, and it will bring out the detail nicely. If you want to, you can lightly drybrush chainmail over it again when the ink is dry to pick out the raised areas.

- You might also use a thin brown ink over your reds, and a dark blue ink (mix with a little black) over your blues... Etc. Inks are way easy to work with and give instant results and crispness.

- Paint the shields and their bosses separately, then glue together when both are dry. Instand crisp result.

- Do them bases, you know you want to :-D

And now, some shameless self promotion...

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/Pueblo666/CannonCrew.jpg

I just uploaded some pics of some of my Empire minis, check out how the faces are painted, using the natural shading of the black undercoat... I'm really pleased with the result.   :P
And it's really easy as well, just use a small brush and remember that less paint = more.

Here's the model in it's entire glory... Notice the cannon, it's modified so it can shoot for real  8)

They are French (not Brettonian  :P ) crewmembers, so naturally they are drunk on the job, and playing petangue

There seems to be a lot of that going around :-D

Still, mark my words, inking is so staggeringly easy, anyone can do it, and do it quickly. It will probably take you all of ten minutes to apply one ink to an entire regiment. So, assuming black, red, and blue, it'd take you half an hour to get a full regiment of infantry all inked up.

@ El Pueblo - those are fantastic! You won't have a problem explaining why one in every six shots misfires.

 - The skin tone? No, IIRC, I just painted a mixture of Scorched Brown and Bronzed Flesh over the black undercoat, then Bronzed Flesh, followed by a highlight (very light) of Bronzed Flesh and Bleached Bone (gives a less pink accent than the typical Elf Flesh).

Normally I just paint Bronzed Flesh directly over the undercoat, which most of the time gives good result. I just don't overdo it.

 - Well, it seems that they've already gained a fearsome reputation of not being able to kill anything yet. My guessing is on the spot, but rolling to wound and the artillery dice are arch-enemies of my army  :-D

 - *Sigh* so true...

Still, I would like some of you guys to post images of miniatures that's been inked. I can't seem to get a hold of the technique myself, the miniature always ends up being glossy  :-x

They are at least average to perhaps a bit beter than average.  Especially the DE.  Painting faces is tricky and only those few painting gurus seem to be able to achive good results.

Anyhow Inking as mentioned is very easy and quick.  Mix the ink with some water to tone down the color or use Elmers Glue to do the same.  The Glue will keep it from running.

For my DE I wanted like ghostly white faces because their skin tone is alabaster for them high elf skum on ulthuan and Naggoroth is further north so they might have an even lighter complection.

I just wish the Malekith model was more like the Malekith in the Darkblade comic.  Where his face is all sunken in and all the details of it were scorched off and he looks kinda like a "grey" because of it.

As for the empire I like the good from far meh from close because my eyes suck but I don't need glasses yet so it is hard for me to get minute detail on such tiny things.  I do use inks sometimes some of my models are inked like my captain alot of the detail in his face was gotten because of an ink wash before I painted the details same thing with the warrior priests that I never use.

Well CountRommel it is time someone gave you some constructive help because you are right, your minis are rather poorly painted. If you want to become a better painter you need to go back to basics and follow the instruction given in books like GW's "How to paint Citadel miniatures". My observations are that you are putting paint in the right places but you lay it on too thickly. You have no hightlighting/shading technique which is essential for good looking minis. You should avoid using inks and drybrushing except where these techniques are in their element (e.g. inking to tone down transition between shades, drybrushing for rough surfaces such as fur and chainmail). They are not techniques for painting surfaces as they are difficult to control. You are failing to clean off mould lines on the castings. You are probably not cleaning the model properly before applying paint.... I could go on. Please take this as a desire to prompt you to improve as you are clearly not happy with your results. Follow the guidelines and I promise you will get better. It's not quantity that counts but quality.

See now I am on a few other forums and I love it when some random german people tell me my stuff is crap.  The reason why is if you ever seen the eldar codex in the back theres all these amazingly painted eldar and my friend dave went over there and almost everyone paints as good or better than the 'eavy metal team their all crazy good painted.  So it's like yea compared to you people my stuff isn't good enough to be labled cr@p.  Thats most likely a bad generalization but my friend dave did see all the really well painted minis with his own eyes even photographed some of them and they were amazing.

Count Rommel:

Having gone against several amies that are only primed even though the general has been at the game longer than me, give yourself credit for the effort.

I think that Buddha has a point when he says the paint seems too thick. Putting a small amount of paint onto a palette and adding the tiniest amount of water would help.  I am not too certain about Buddha's comments regarding inks and dry brushing.  If one is a Eavy Metal class painter, then one will have alternate technics.  For the less talented (like myself) these technics can hide a multitude of sins.  Still my hat is off to  Buddha and others for providing constructive comments.

Prior to the summer of 2005 my miniature painting experience dates back to the days when Gary Gygax ruled the world and Testors ruled paints.  I have managed to complete all of  the elements for a versatile 2000 point force and could scrape a 3000 point army together.  The main point is to  enjoy the process.

The December White Dwarf (US) had a commentary about the prevalence of unpainted armies.  The gist was: Why bother with figures at all.  One could play just as well with pieces of cardboard cut to the correct base size and the unit name, but much would be lost.  Funny thing is, stopping by the  local gaming establishment one Sunday in December, there was a kid fielding an Ogre force made mostly of cardboard.  I have sympathy.  He was a young tyke and  clearly the GW product range is priced out of his means.  Still it is not the same experience as a painted army of any quality.
Sigmar on a sling, the stuff some people come up with. . . .

Actually I used to do this when I started, just field one or two units as cardboard tokens! Oh the joy when I was able to replace these tokens with actual miniatures (albeit unpainted ones). :)

I'd rather have a crappy painted army than an unpainted army or cardboard tokens.  I played magic for a bunch of years and warhammer is much more fun.  So my stuff may suck but I rather it suck than worship the gods Pewtar, Primar and Plastique the three forgotten gods of chaos.
