5th ed empire army
« on: November 25, 2014, 01:38:47 AM »
Hi guys,

This project is something like the realisation of a childhood dream :p

I'm theming the army around a merchant army from Neuland, and will use all 4th/5thed models where possible. The only exception are some Knights abd plastic cannons. I'm going to go for a fairly garish orange/white colour scheme, which could end badly. The weather here is terrible at the moment so I can't get them primed, but here's the start! From little things, big things will grow :)

P.S. If anybody has some spare state troops of this style (preferably on sprue, but I can't be too fussy), I'd love to take them off your hands :)

this will be fun to watch. But, paint them red! RED! that's the period color.  :eusa_clap:

No no, these are the rules for the Red Phase:

1. Uniforms must feature a minimum two of the following: yellow, blue, red.
2. All polearms must be bright red.
3. All other details may be painted red.
4. The addition of bright green is encouraged.

Cheers guys! Has anybody on here ever done an orange and white scheme before? Would be good to see some pics...

Especially to see if they'd suit red weapon shafts!

that was by far the worst. some things you just can't un-see  :icon_rolleyes:

more on topic, I don't think orange is a very popular color. not sure why. oh wait, I do: why do orange when you can do RED!

Maybe I could do blue pole arms! That would suit the theme

Orange can work fine, you don't see it very often, let alone combines with white. Go for it.

just remember to highlight with yellow, otherwise it will be to eye catching. good start.

When the weather clears up, my plan is to undercoat white, sepia wash the orange bits, hit them with a yellow glaze, and then a couple of coats of orange wash. For the white my plan is to make a wash using dawnstone and Lahmian medium, with drybrushing for highlights.

yellow glaze won't work over  orange. Highlight will. If you plan drybrushing white, do it before other highlights.

I was hoping this would be a 100 or so of the old plug and play Ersatzsolders at truly eye-watering expense!

Will be interesting to see your colour scheme take shape. My gaming buddy's Mordheim Marrienburgers are dressed in orange with white trim, it's very effective.

So there hasn't been any painting progress, still high humidity and daily storms, and it looks like that'll continue for at least this week.   :dry

This did arrive, and I got a massive rush of nostalgia!

Edit: Shadespyre, do you have any pics of your buddy's models? Would be very keen to see them :)

That is gorgeous. You have to open it. You can't open it though. Post pictures when you've opened it.

Note the size of the Handguns.

They might actually be smaller than the current Pistols.

Ah for the days of realistic proportioned, sensibly armed, entire regiment for $35 AUD figures from GW.

Fortunately, you can get pretty much the same effect (except the "from GW") part by going Perry.

Pity the Perry stuff doesn't match the current GW models (like Greatswords) so well . . .

That box is beautiful. I can't wait to see this army.

Once on eBay I DID see someone selling literally 100 of the old halberdiers for a great price. So someone's got 'em...

Some of the old models have some real character.

Well, sorry for the lack of updates... But there are none.

Basically, real life has destroyed hobby time for me (working 6, sometimes 7 day weeks for the last couple of months...). On top of that my gaming buddies are all bailing on either WHFB or the hobby in general, so I've also lost my mojo.

I'll probably put these guys up for sale (and I still haven't opened that handgunners box!), because even if I were to finish them, I'd never actually use them. Not much point in that, as far as I can see.

you can send them to me, I have enough left over parts from that edition to convert them to swordsmen,  other edition parts will work also, but not as well due to a slight increase in scale of the bodies.   so your best bet is to wrap it all up and send them to me.  steveb
