I think checking the surveillance might be a good start other than that are there teenagers loitering around the place? Are there club members living closer by that can check into it?

Yea there is also a motorshop thing for youth out there (it is a bit outside the city), but it might also just be drunk idiots - its hard to tell. But its clear they didnt come to steal.

I will let the landlord follow up on it, if he does. Yea Fandir, most of the members live there so they responded very quickly to the break-in

Both my PC and my back-up PC are dead, my clients' e-mail addresses gone, no access to the legal dictionaries I urgently need, the computer expert who usually fixes such things on vacation till Thursday, and two translations to deliver tomorrow.

Yes i know they are all the same, but with the statistics of how frail hard drives back ups are #1
I have over 4 Terabytes of data

1 of my 2 Tb drives are for back up ONLY

I have been very lucky, the hard drive is still working. The problem is I cannot access the 'old data' I need for work (accounting, translations, specialised dictionaries, e-mails and e-mail addresses of my clients) at the moment. A second PC I could have switched to would have been the right thing to do, I guess.

But you are absolutely right! I'll also make more and better back-ups in the future.

Fortunately not as I didn't have any back-up.

I just cannot access it because my PC doesn't boot. All I know for now is that power supply unit, RAM modules and graphic card aren't the reason. I suppose I'll have to buy a new one.

Still working on Fandir's laptop BTW ...

Is it a laptop? If you need access to your data and you know the HDD is working you can just connect it to any other PC and boot it up.

@Thank you all for trying to help me.

Apart from my accounting data, I can access everything now. My PC is dead, presumably the main board or the processor.
I'll have to buy a new one. But at least, no data is lost and I am able to work again. Time to switch to the Happy thoughts thread.
