First Foray into Warhammer
« on: January 26, 2013, 04:26:01 PM »
So, after several false starts, I am finally dipping my foot into the pool. Bought this for myself . I'm hoping running a thread here will help me see this through.

I have a few ideas for them, but more questions:

What type of glue is best to use?
Suggestions for bucklers/targes?
Suggestions for unarmoured mounted legs?

Best
Tom

I would look through ebay for some shield bits, or buy a state troops box. In terms of glue, the GW plastic glue, Testors cement for plastic models, and Gorilla super glue all work well for me.

You can use small buttons for shields - there are metal buttons available which are quite small, detailed and inexpensive. They can work very well as bucklers rather than shields, because they look as if they are made of heavy metal and are ornate.

I would recommend gorilla glue. I prefer super glue over plastic glue just incase you want to pop something off and change it. As for bitz check thewarstore.com they have a ton of minitaures and bitz.

Congrats on buying the militia box, it's a great starting point. I say plastic glue for plastic models. I personally use Humbrol Poly Cement at the moment.

Just to add to the mix :) I use Plastruct Plastic Cement, which is cheap and cheerful. Works very well and cost me $4 for a huge bottle.

I would second the idea of using plastic cement for plastic models - works MUCH better.

I like Testors Plastic Model glue, the one with the red label. I like it precisely because it isn't easy to break something off once the glue has set. With superglue, the glue will weaken over time and pieces can easily be broken off. This just doesn't happen with Plastic Glue as it actually welds the plastic together.

If you find some good, unarmoured, human mounted legs, let me know. Pistolier legs are armoured and only other similar legs are huge or elfy.
There are three things each man judges another man by;

1. The size of his codpiece
2. The amount of skulls he carries
3. The length of his feather

You've picked a good kit to start with.  Lots of cool extra bits in the militia box that can be used in a variety of other projects!

I too use Testors Plastic Cement for all the reasons mentioned above.

My progress so far can't be compared to some of the logs here, but hey, I'm happy with the meager start I've made.
(Pictures aren't much either, not used to photographing something so small.)

An arabyan, maybe?

Also, I broke an ax, so I glued the head underneath a pistol and made one of these:

Theme for the army:
A bunch of younger sons of Bretonnian nobles, from the Estalian border, carve out a colony in The Southlands, making their living as a sellsword company known as The Unloved Sons. Lots of mercenary army influences, plus conquistadors. Speaking of conquistadors, I've been trying matching
Empire heads with High Elf armor torsos for a rodelero look.

Comments, criticism, advice all welcome

Good luck with the hobby blog. The great thing about empire is that you can kit bash all day long. Looking forward to seeing more.
