Ultramarines the movie - release trailer
« on: October 16, 2010, 11:28:39 AM »
I know we've discussed this before but its going to be out soon. I've just watched the release trailer and Im pretty underwhelmed by the animation, it looks pretty hit and miss. I'll probably buy the collectors edition anyway to be honest, on the off chance its any good.

Trailers here - http://www.ultramarinesthemovie.com/?utm_source=Ultramarines:+The+Movie&utm_campaign=4fccb9881b-Mailer12&utm_medium=email

And here I was thinking they'd be using real actors. A little disappointed, as this puts it on the scale of Lego Bionicle the Movie.

It seems kinda Meh, to be honest.

Only on the web will you hear the fans moan...

Looks decent, sounds decent, and since it is 40K and a first, I bought it.

Looks as good as game cut scenes.

A full movie of it, not sure how that will go...

I have low expectations. Space marines grunting manly and blasting retarded heretics for an hour and a half probably won't make a very good plot.
I agree with the inhumane treatment of animals.

...from 1998. Not much better than what they had in "Starcraft".

But perhaps they have a revolutionary and mind-boggling plot to make up for it? *snicker*

I think I'm getting too old for this.

True, but film trailers(both live action and pure animated) often contain incomplete CGI. Kind of hoping that's the case here.

Unfortunatley, I have heard that one of the main names associated worked on the Bionicle movie, so I guess it's screwed.

The grim dark future.....there is soooooooo much great movie material for 40k movies....why Ultramarines? Why oh why? Also why are they slaughtering Chaos Marines? Guys that would be at LEAST at the very LEAST as competent as those fresh fledged Ultras.

Perhaps one day they make that Last Chancers movie and redeem themselves.

Clicking that link, you know who is going to die first.

Almost like the hang-arounds in Star Trek - the unknown cast = dead meat.

I will definitely watch that movie, but as someone who does CGI himself I am rather disappointed with the look as well. This is several generations behind state of the art. But I guess the budget wasn't that huge, so they propably did the best they could with what was available. A full length full CGI movie is a pretty damn huge thing to tackle, and with this many frames, every bit where you save on render and compositing time counts.

I think it doesn´t look that bad I always wanted a movie like the Dawn of war 1 intro.

But the story?

Common there even was a Space Wolves novel about it, distress beacon, great peril, oh....wait lets send in the newbies with one kickass veteran commander.

Also that last stand in the middle of nowhere .....ok we the Ultramarines are the most genius tactical masterminds of the Astartes....well lets form a circle and shoot everyone approaching it.....GREAT IDEA!

Unlucky Chaos scum have even less tactical genius and just storm that circle from all directions and get slaughtered.

Did anyone else notice that they had vocal clips from Dawn of War?

Honestly I'm very disappointed... The models are not really what I was expecting, and the animations are very unprofessional...
I mean take a look what Black Hole Entertainment did :

That's the intro cinematic from Mark of Chaos video game...  And it's a masterpiece for Christ's sake !

Yes, it is. And it is about 3 minutes long, and you can be quite sure that it was 6 figure expensive.

I don't like the look of that movie much either, but if you want a feature length film in that quality, you need a very solid budget in the Hollywood range. CGI of that grade is expensive.

From the site:
Quote
Ultima Squad is a raw, untrained band of battle brothers, all recently promoted from the ranks of Space Marine Scouts and thirsting for glory.

I thought that space marines stood above glory and all those human feelings?

I think they have missed a huge change with releasing this movie.

Bloody Codex Pictures. I got an email from them yesterday saying there was problems with the distributors so my pre-ordered collecors edition that should have arrived at my house yesterday would be slightly late and they would email me again today with a date. I get home today, check my email discover that the issue is not resolved and it will definitely not be with me before next week.
Shit.
