Good shooting though, skimmer, and good armor value on the front.  When the Tau book is updated, it will get a little lower.  Remember, Rhino were 50 points until the most recent Marine book.

What is the best?  I am prone to say the Monolith or the ork battlewagon.  14 front armor and only 90 points with a 20 man capacity.

I tend towards the battlewagon as well. Although the Chimera is a close contender.

My wagons end up being 145 with 2 shootas, heavy armor, deff rolla, stik bomb chukkas.

3rd edition monoliths are nice though with their deep strike arrival without danger then the teleporting in of a unit immediately after (or grab a unit further back to bring them in).

how does a devilfish have good shooting, it has an 18 inch range heavy bolter on it.

Doesn't it have a pair drones too?

And Rhinos don't even have a heavy bolter!

yes it does. 2 twinlinked pulse carbines. inconsequential!

The rhino has no guns, but the DF has no fire points.

And you can get two rhinos for the cost of a DF. and have spare points.

DF is so much worse than a rhino!

I don't know, I still see the devilfish as a very useful transport.  It gets 2 S5 AP5 and 3 S5 AP5 shots.  Has AV12 on front, and can float over terrain.  The Rhino isn't really worth taking.  Few people use them.  They take razorbacks, drop pods, and landraiders.  They aren't assault vehicles, and too soft.  You can't give up that kill point.

Ha! My CSM beg to differ!
 :-D

Sure, with combat squadding available most marine players have switched to razorbacks, because the advancing element doesn't need a bigger transport and for 10 points more than a Rhino you get a TL heavy bolter. Doesn't make Rhinos bad. For some builds they're still the quintessential transport (say, Blood Angels assault marines without jumppack).

I'm really dying to see the exact stats and points of that Necron Ghost Ark. Apparently it has 2 Gauss Flayer arrays of 5 Gauss Flayers each - with 10 warriors in it (since it's open-topped) that would mean 40 Gauss Flayer Shots at rapid fire range. Not too shabby. and as long as the Shield is up it's AV13.

I HATE putting assault troops into rhinos.  Not being able to assault sucks badly!

Yeah, but with Blood Angels it actually works, because they're fast.

1st turn, move up 18", next turn, disembark 2", move 6", assault 6". That's plenty of range.

They don't get to assault the round they disembark, regardless of whether the unit is fast or not.

Yes they do if the transport hasn't moved that turn.

Transport only drives turn 1, 18". Infantry does the rest on turn 2.

Ironically my necrons will be able to assault after disembarking.

This is amusing because the question will be "Why?".

Yeah I suppose thats true, though that then assumes the person you are attacking is so ignorant to leave anything worth while that close to the rhino.  A good player stays right away, or shoots the transport open then blasts the juicy contents.  I find most of the danger of assault transports in in their range.  If it moved last round, it is left to either move or telegraph to the opponent that it will assault something within 14"

15" actually - you have to include the width of the base of the disembarked troops. Not so easy to keep clear of a 15" radius.

Most CSM players use Rhinos for Khorne Berzerkers in exactly this way, and it works fine. Although I prefer mine to say hello from the assault ramp of a Land Raider.

Because... because!

You can take just 9 warriors and add a lord with a Warscythe! That's totally viable and... all right, forget it.
You could propably nail some firewarriors though. Or Guardsmen.

That'll be worth every penny for the lucky buyer. I bet there aren't many Jabba figures with swords and antlers around.

I like that he actually greenstuffed the hand and the antlers while the rest looks like he just poured bits and glue into a bucket, shook it and then said: "Oh! transport I guess."

I still wouldn't bother.  My Black Templar use only landraiders (3 of them) and my Orks use all open topped transports.  I understand the point of the drive up one round and assault the next, but any army that cannot either remove the rhino and kill some of the inside models or at least get out of the way isn't terribly good.

THOUGH I SUPPOSE THERE IS SOME VALUE OIN HAVING A RHINO PUT ENOUGH FEAR INTO THE ENEMY TO WASTE SHOOTING ON IT IN FEAR OF THE CONTENTS.

Whoops, that shouldn't have been all caps.
