Sorry wrong TV show - this is No. 6

Cruel trick. I've been following your progress in spite of never having watched Dr. Who, but I clicked the thread this time excitedly hoping you got side-tracked by a series with which I am much more familiar (and fond of.) Still enjoying the thrwad, regardless ;)

Cruel trick.

Sorry 023 – I assume you know Crooked Dice do a range a characters based on this unnamed show – and Pigeon Guard Games have just brought out a phone kiosk and control centre for use in the 7TV game.

(don’t get your hopes up though I don’t have any of these figures)

The seventh Dr Who as played by Sylvester McCoy 1987-1996

Black Tree Design figure as it came. I’ve raise the bowl of his hat as it couldn’t be seen over the rim. Other than that it’s a simple repaint.

The eighth Dr Who as played by Paul McCann 1996

Black Tree Design figure as it came. The worst sculpt of theirs. I don’t like this figure at all especially the face or the hair but I’ve done my best.

The War Dr Who as played by John Hurt 2013

Based on an OOP figure from Heresy. A more recent sculpt, for a more recent show, and although they are different sculptors demonstrates the improvements in quality over the years. Built as intended but because the original wasn’t made as a ‘Dr Who’ figure the sonic screwdriver needed a little modification.

The tenth Dr Who as played by David Tenant 2005-2010

Based on an OOP figure from Heresy. Their unofficial version of the 10th Dr. I’ve added the shades and hula garland. He should have had a hat but l preferred him like this.

The twelfth Dr Who as played by Peter Capaldi 2014-2017

Based on the same OOP figure from Heresy that I used for the 9th Dr. The sculpting was done with Green Stuff and the guitar is mostly plastic card.

Davros as played by Michael Wisher 1975, David Gooderson 1979. Terry Molloy 1984-1988 and Julian Bleach 2008.

Don’t know where this figure came from, it’s not one of Black Tree Designs but of the same vintage.

The Group is now completed and displayed more or less as in the original shot. For me this has been a quick project. Now I just need to find a little Box to keep them in.

And Relative Dimension In Space – loosely based on a 1930’s Mark 2 Metropolitan Police Box as designed by Gilbert Mackenzie Trench.

Understood to be one of the first, if not a prototype, from Ainsty Castings from the early days when still in the hands of its original owner. The resin at this time was not reliable and this clear version was not in production for long. Not known if the new owner has ever produced this model.

Re: Project W - Off on a Tangent!
« Reply #41 on: July 07, 2024, 03:22:59 PM »
It’s some time since I looked at my collection of Doctors and his world has progressed a bit since then.

I managed to get to a Gaming show a few months ago and had a look for figures that I might use for my missing 3 Doctors. Crooked Dice had versions of the 14th and 15th but I didn’t like their faces or the stance of the 15th Dr.

I then found a company I’d not heard of before, called Tangent Miniatures.

In their display of painted figures were a number of Who related ones, under assumed names, including a Fugitive Dr who looked near perfect.

I asked if they had the 2 missing Dr’s and their reply was they were new and hadn't been painted yet for display. I purchased unseen; a big mistake as these Dr’s were 3D printed, where as Fugitive was cast metal.

Once again I fall fowl of the need to check figures in the flesh before I buy, and is why I never buy online – I’ve been let down by so many manufacturers in the past. It’s normally because they have a different sculptor for each range – its the first time the same range has had such a divergent of styles in it as to make the figures incompatible with each other.

Tangents Miniatures’ web site says the metal figures are designed digitally, and those in their show display were great, so I’m at a loss to understand why they would now design and sell such cartoonish 3D prints to supplement the excellent metal range they already had.

This was not the end of my problems.

I decided to fatten the Doctors up with a mixture of putties and I’m reasonably happy with the end results, however the stuff the figures are printed in is rubbish, its very brittle, cracks easily and had an air pocket causing another break.

When priming the figures numerous ends from the printing supports showed themselves as did the printing layers. Tangent say the metal figure are digitally sculpted and the fact it has been cast from a 3D print became very apparent when primed. (Even Duncan Rhodes would have found two thick coats were not enough).

Hopefully Crooked Dice have three years or more to improve their sculpting before the next Dr is due.

The Fugitive Doctor played by Jo Martin 2020-2022.

The first black Dr Who and technically the first known female Dr Who. When she met the 13th Dr she was revealed to be an incarnation from a period in the Dr’s life that has been erased from their memory, together with a number of other reincarnations, prior to the time of our 1st Dr.

The figure is a metal casting from Tangent Miniatures and other than some additions to her hair is as cast.

The 14th Dr played by David Tennant 2023. This is a new character from his previous version of the 10th Dr.

The figure is a 3D print from Tangent Miniatures. Very cartoonish in style so has a lot of GS work to fatten up and make more human looking.

The 15th Dr played by Ncuti Gatwa 2023-

The figure is a 3D print from Tangent Miniatures. Very cartoonish in style so has a lot of GS work to fatten up and make more human looking. The print material was very brittle and broke easily, it also had air bubbles in the print.

Re: Dr Who Project - The Ducktor
« Reply #46 on: July 14, 2024, 08:32:29 AM »
The Ducktor is Dr. Pat Harkin 2014.

A little bit convoluted, but a Discworld connection so I felt obliged to add him.

Pat Harkin is a (now retired) doctor and regular attender of Discworld conventions in the Round World. He often hosts items at these conventions, like the Auctions or Maskerades. In 2010 at one of these events a comment from him about sitting ducks led to a ‘quack’ from the audience. The audience making duck noises during events he compares has now become a tradition that he still suffers or enjoys to the present day.

In 2014 he performed a sketch at one of the conventions as a pastiche of the 10th Dr wearing a fez and holding a large rubber duck under the title ‘The Ducktor’. During the sketch audience participation was encouraged with cards held up with animal names (cow, horse, etc.) on them to which the audience had to supply the relevant animal noise – the D**K was never mentioned.

2024 and in the UK we are all relieved and overjoyed with the ousting of the Torys from Government.  Back then they had only been in power for 4 years yet our Education standards had already gone into a dramatic decline as many of the audience believed all animals ‘quacked’.

The figure is mostly GS over Crooked Dice’s original figure of Darius, the Man from 2000.

The Ducktor has arranged a meeting in Ankh-Morpork for all the Dr’s as its the only World on which they can all safely meet each other without affecting Time Law.

The base the TARDIS is on has a light underneath but it doesn’t give the glowing effect I was hoping for. It may be due to the resin not being as clear as some you can get nowadays.

My collection of is now up to date and it will hopefully be a few years before I need to resurrect this thread again. K9 will then have to go ‘walkies’  as he is using the last available hole on the Dr’s display board.
