Title: EUROBASH 2012 Aftermath discussion and reports (pg 18)
Post by: Midaski on January 26, 2012, 03:31:16 PM
Saturday April 28th, Sunday April 29th, Monday, April 30th and Tuesday May 1st.

(The Tuesday being a public holiday in Belgium, so the Monday is apparently a 'bridge' day. )

So participants may choose what days they wish to attend - Soth has suggested that Sunday and Monday are the core days, but people can attend the first three days or the last three days or all four days - up to you.

Venue will again be St Niklaas, in the new HQ clubhouse.

After the experiences of previous years I am certain that we will stay at the Ibis Hotel in the centre of St Niklaas.
It is 5 minutes walk from the gaming venue and there are plenty of bars within staggering distance.

If you wish to be added to the list, please post in the thread and I will update as we get closer.
To help Soth negotiate a good deal at the Hotel, it would be helpful if people confirm as soon as they can, and what days they are likely to attend.

Several people may be travelling to the venue on Friday 27th and leaving on Wednesday May 2nd.
However not everybody is staying all 5 nights.

We would expect a twin room to be about 70e and hopefully including breakfast - which is served until 10.00am, and for many of us did for lunch as well.
Otherwise apart from travel cost, it's an evening meal and beers.

'Gaming intensity' is entirely up to you - in previous years some people have played 3 games a day, and others one.

Last year's thread with details and pictures ..........

I can confirm that it is highly unlikely that Madam Commandant will want to come this year, though she did enjoy herself last year, so I might be looking for somebody to share a room with :)

means 4 days off work, and £150 in accommodation costs alone.

Did we go for four days last time? I can't remember.

Also, I looked at last year's pictures again. I need to play undead while wearing that Count von Count T-shirt.

We've done 5 days and 4 nights usually with travelling so we are going to add 1 day and 1 night.

Finlay forgets he has all that money he didn't spend last year left over too?

  :engel:
I spent it at a wedding in Ireland. We were given one half glass of champagne to toast four (!) wedding speeches. Groom, Best man, Father of Bride and Father of Groom.

so I ended up going to the bar for Guinness.

I'm 50/50 on this. Extra day leave (I love to conserve my leave! and I'm going on holiday around easter time too), probably £40 extra cost minimum...

On the other hand I always enjoy myself, if I left early would feel I was missing out, and I have 4 months to save. (really should have been putting aside £50 a month)

At the end of the day, because I will be relying on travel from you and FR1day, I will acquiesce to the group.
Although I would request that we leave early enough on whichever day we do leave so I can get all the way back to Exeter on the same day.

Let's see how it develops.

We may have more than 4 of us from the UK this year - yes I know I say that every year ..........  :engel:

It may be one group stays 4 nights and another 5

If it would be necessary I can pick some people up at the Airport in Brussel, or the station.

Now I only need to get permission of my girl to attend all 4 days.

There is a really good train link if people are thinking of taking the Eurostar from England.   That is how I got to Nottingham and it worked really well

Considering I'd need to book Saturday through Monday off, staying for the Tuesday would not really be an issue for me.

Obviously it's not my call though. :-D

Should we also consider a trading booth ;-) I'm looking for some of the knight legs that came on the old command sprue (the ones with cloth around the armoured legs) and I'd need some six of them... for my unit Blazing Suns....

And this time it will be no more Mr. Nice guy playing Brets!
No, this time I've got me a brand new army to play with: Dwarves!

Yes. The dwarfs are back in town.

Now I need to work out Travel arrangements.
How's this going to work. All make our own way?
Title: Re: EUROBASH 2012 Event Planning and details.
Post by: Midaski on February 07, 2012, 09:06:20 AM
Well it now seems we are up to 6 from the UK.

rufus had stayed with Fr1day, and Finlay has stayed at both my place and Fr1days in past years, and then we have headed for the tunnel for a departure around noon.

Finlay will be coming from Exeter and Merrick is somewhere near Bristol.
rufus is in Sheffield and Ratarsed is "oop north" too .............

We will need two cars obviously now, but I am sure we can work it out.

The discussion is probably now about when we go and how long we stay.

I would guess we will travel through the tunnel on the Friday arriving in St Niklaas late afternoon.

Then I think rufus, Fr1day and Finlay want to do 3 days as before and come back on the Tuesday - we have arrived back in the UK in recent years mid afternoon, and Finlay has managed to get back to Exeter that same night.

I'm flexible - I'd be happy to stay for the extra day on Tuesday, and come back Wednesday, but I will go with the majority, though I have just had a thought about the Eurotunnel Saver pricing as it may only work on a 5-day trip.
Need to check.

That would be a winning plan for me- save a bit of time on the detour to Midaski's, with the ease of train connection from exeter-FR1DAYS

Obviously as a non-driver I will acquiesce to the drivers!

I'll be leaving from Breda.
So anybody needing a ride from Rotterdam onwards can ride along with me.

If they're blonde, female, under 30 and nude I'll even pick them up in Groningen.

A drive from Rotterdam would be great. I'd be leaving from Leiden but if I could drive along that be great. plus there is less chance I'd loose my army again....

Sorry Shav though, I'm not nude, nor female. I am below 30 though ;)

We'll work out the details (your sex change and undressing) closer to the date.
But I can certainly pick you up in Rotterdam.

1 seat taken, 2 to go.

I might not be around here so much as of late, and I had/got some issues going in my personal life..

But I checked my schedule, and it seems that weekend is the first of our May holiday which I need to take off half anyway. So I'll be around for my second edition!

I'll drive by myself with a bigger car then last year so I can take another 3 (maybe 4 if you like to be cramped in on the backseat) with me. I'll be driving down from Leeuwarden (The Netherlands), so people from Groningen or around I can pick up aswell and don't have to be nude, a girl and under 30.. though it would give you some bonus points and extra attention!  :biggriin:

edit:
As it stands now: arrival on friday late afternoon / early evening. departure either during the day on tuesday or early in the evening.
So that will be for 4 nights.

At first it's up to yourself to get there yes, but along the way some groups form up that travel with eachother and that make arrangements for the trip together. Just keep following the various threads about this and PM some guys from your region if you can tag along or ask how they are planning the trip.
As you arrive you can call up to the Warhammer God and he will make sure you will get to the right place :)

I think we are waiting for february for people to commit, then move on with plans from there.

The general plan has been meet up at folkestone and get the ferry to calais, and drive from there.

But if we have two cars it might be meeting at folkstone.

Actually, doesn't the ferry go from Dover?

eurotunnel = folkstone - Calais
Ferry = Dover - Calais or Ramsgate - Oostende or Dover - Duinkerke

No I didn't  - forthelady and I have had some personal communication and he is unable to attend as he has the opportunity to work that weekend.

@ratarsed
How easy is the Hull ferry ....... and what sort of cost?

We normally go eurotunnel mainly based on being in the South East and you can get reduced prices with Tesco clubcard vouchers.  :engel:

So you could drive down here and stay overnight, or go on the Hull route - and maybe rufus would find that attractive from Sheffield

I was rather hoping we might have had some response from the Yorkshire mafia, Padre Uryens, Damo and Volks, and maybe even Chumley as well.

If there is a contingent from north of Watford then travel arrangements may be altered.

There was possible talk of hiring a minibus if the numbers were more than 6/7 - shared cost - easier transport in the evenings around St Niklaas.

It seems that a lot of people are attending. I hope this season will be at least as good as the previous ones. Have fun guys.

I'd quite like to try that.

There's quite a crew for that in our club. We even organise the Belgian championship...

I tried to bring along Grey Seer Star (from the Underempire) last year and I have asked him to join this year aswell.
He normally has school but seeing the monday/tuesday falls with in the May holiday here in the Netherlands, that excuse went noght  :closed-eyes:

Both my imperial princes and his scrawny rat mistress both found it a very good idea so they could go to the spa/wellness centre together that weekend. Only blocker for him was getting financials done. But I will cover that for him if any problems would arrise!

So if it's up to me and both missus then he has no other option left then to go, so sign him up!!  :engel:

I've just tweaked the original post.

We seem to be at 16 at the moment ...... and Bloodbowl just went off the menu - just as I got my Amazonians out.

I hope I haven't missed anybody out.

Looking at the eurotunnel pricing I think those of us coming that route will probably just do the travel Friday - 3 days gaming - back Tuesday timespan.
That gives us the shortstay saver pricing of around £106.00 return for the car.

Not sure if rufus will come south or try to meet up with Ratarsed and any of the other Yorkshire folks who have been somewhat quiet so far.

In fact somebody should work on the East Anglia connection as Hull is very accessible from there ....................

It has become a bit of a problem, because the building work at the uni has been delayed, the building isn't opening until that weekend! so I definitely can't do the extra day and I definitely need to get back in time so I can get to Exeter to go to work on wednesday.

Good thing my line manager is sympathetic.

So I'm booking Friday, monday and tuesday off work. Travelling to Woking on thursday, travelling to belgium on friday, 3 days gaming, coming home on tuesday.

It looks like no one else outside the usuals are coming... Are we able to work out a more efficient way of driving?

So, that's quick. I want to come two days: sunday and monday (as they are the 'main days'). My girlfriend will come along, so we can take a 2p-room together.
Have no idea how the rest of the arrangement goes, as this will be my first time attending.

Yeah. Exactly how is the sleeping arrangement going to be made?

I prefer nude women in my room.

If we're starting on a Friday, I'll probably arrive on the Friday and leave on the Tuesday. So, that would be 4 nights.
If that's what most people are doing. I need to know well in advance though, so I can sort things out on the home front.

Have I mentioned I prefer sharing my room with nude females yet? If not, let me just mention that I prefer nude females in my bedroom.

Most will arrive on friday at around dinner time I suppose (as last year). Both me and Grey Seer Starr (if he got it right that is... skaven aren't the smartest around) will be leaving tuesday during the day or maybe after dinner.

And welcome Willem I :)

Looking forward to this! Last year was a heap of fun. Let's hope the weather is nice again and we can try kicking each other to bits again playing football in Soth's yard.  :-D

I think I'll bring one of my new armies this year: skaven or HE's. Haven't got much experience with them yet but that's part of the fun isn't it?  I'll be there Saturday, Sunday and Monday for sure, Tuesday too but only until after lunch or something. I might get there Friday evening if it's worth it (ie if I can get a game in)?

Is there any chance of playing some 2VS2 games? I played a few of these recently and found them quite entertaining and also a social way of playing. Requires a larger board or two boards next to each other so don't know if that's possible in the new venue.

Also, anyone gonna bring some 40K? I finally managed to paint a decent amount of SW 13th company so might give these guys an outing as well.
Title: Re: EUROBASH 2012 Event Planning and details.
Post by: Finlay on March 07, 2012, 12:29:27 PM
I've played at least one 2vs2 each year I think. they are fun but they take basically a whole day.

Me (dark eldar), Rufus (grey knights), fr1day (vanilla marines), aldaris (chaos marines) and fandir (IG) are all taking 40k. Presumably others are too!

I sold all my 13th company to buy my wife's engagement ring. I want my Wulfen back.

Cisse, HE would be fun to see aswell, already atleast 2 people on Skaven (Grey Seer Starr and Aldaris, and maybe Soth again though he has more goodies)

I'm up for some 2vs2, maybe 1k each to make the games a bit more manageble?

Lots of marines of all sorts I see! OK I'm sold I'll bring my Space Wolves. Haven't played 40K in ages, this'll be a learning experience. It's actually the first time I'll play the "new" edition I think...  :-P

Cisse, HE would be fun to see aswell, already atleast 2 people on Skaven (Grey Seer Starr and Aldaris, and maybe Soth again though he has more goodies)
Heh to be honest the skaven are 100% finished, the HE's are not. The HE's will take less space, that's true... I'll see!
Soth just has to take whatever no-one else is bringing!

About 2vs2 games: yeah they tend to take time but often due to discussions. Easy solution: put a time limit on each phase, and limit the points total to omething sensible - we've found 2K each works well (4K vs 4K total). I've found that we were able to finish a doubles game of 2K each in around 4 hrs, still long but doable. The magic phase tends to take a lot of time, though.

The Eurobash is a gathering of forum members at a gaming club in St Niklaas - and we play games for 3 days, maybe 4 this year. We also do a bit of drinking, and eat a bit of food and laugh.

All of this is optional - you can play the games you want, drink what you want, and eat what you want.

That's understandable, but still really disappointing.   :icon_sad:

I was rather hoping that we would finally get some interest from north of London, but yet again it falls away.

However the positive point to be taken is that you have investigated a 'route' that for a group of 3 or 4 would be feasible.

So maybe next year Chumley and Padre and others might just get on board ................

I wonder if people think it is too cliquey, but actually new people come every year and love it. (commandant and SKS! last year, sir bedevere the year before, fandir and aldaris the year before… right?) I understand travel arrangements can be hard, but if we got like 2-3 more people I’d be well up for a minivan!

Furthermore, the price of flights and the eurostar is not that bad.

I thought I should post here. The 'Yorkshire contingent' (me, Damo and Uryens) can't make it this year, for too many reasons to list. But we still looked into how we would have gone about it and it turns out it would involve a 50 mile drive, and overnight ferry and a 50 miles drive. Very easy in terms of travel. So (and I know you've heard it before) if it is repeated next year we are going to attempt to get our act together and the necessary time to go then. I really do want to attend.

If it has not been mentioned before: a group that might be willing to go by train in Belgium can use a Rail Pass. The pass costs 76 euros for 10 trips between any Belgian train station at any date (within a year), and can be used by several persons. St. Niklaas has good connections, and the train station is near the city centre.

Edit: and for those younger than 26, there is the Go Pass - same thing as the Rail Pass, but only 50 Euro.

Room prices went up since last year? And if this is a deal you could get I wonder how much the priceraise was

EDIT:
According to the booking at the IBIS site it's again a nice price cut!

Price of a room: Fri 27th - 79.00 // Sat 28th - 69.00 // Sun 29th - 69.00 // Mon 30th - 69.00
Breakfast: 13.50 a day per person
So: Fri 106.00 // Sat 96.00 // Sun 96.00 // Mon 96.00

Saving: Fri on Sat - 34.00 // Sat on Sun - 24.00 // Sun on Mon - 24.00 // Mon on Tue - 24.00 = 106 total per room

Don't forget 2 person room so deviding costs by 2!
Saving per person: 53.00!!

The Soth Price:
72 x 4 = 288
144 per person

Good job again Soth!!

You made an error. Breakfast is 13.5 per person per day, so you actually save 106 € over 4 days, or 53€ per person.

The real cost is 36 € per person per night, including breakfast (which saves on lunch in our experience). And believe me people, it's the best deal in the vicinity. We've tried several alternatives...

For those who want to start saving : that's 3 € a week if you stay the four nights. Drink one less a week of an expensive beer and you're in.

Soth tells me that Sportkring Sint-Niklaas football team are playing the last game of the season at home on the Sunday.

However due to their rise in Belgian football status - which seems to have happened suddenly after Fandir and I did some coaching on the line last year ................ there is now increased security and we will need proper tickets to get in past the real policemen on the gates.

I have already indicated I wish to attend - anyone else needs to make their wishes known.

To accompany Fandir and I you will need enough swagger and football knowledge to convince the other spectators that you are probably a scout for clubs in either the Premier League or the Bundesliga.

If you have the misfortune to be Scottish, please do not apply as the whole world knows the Scots know nothing about football and couldn't have spotted Messi if he was playing for Kilwinning Wanderers III .....................

If I play anybody with unpainted models, they have to Play with 300 points less than me, in the nude or massage my feet.

The money Soth, do you want that in advance or on arrival?

So you (Soth) will pay for all the rooms at once then? I remember last year we took care of our own rooms at check out. I didn't know there were any troubles with that. And I'm cool to do it that way again as I'm with my brother-in-law in the room those 4 nights so if there is any issues between me and him I know were to find him :P
And I know that payment won't be an issue with using a bank card (instead of creditcard thingy)

But if it really needs to be all up infront then I'll come up with the dow before hand.

Painting mode is practically non-existent atm, except for my regular weekly session with a friend.

And yes, I AM looking forward to this!
 :-D

Even if I propably won't be able to bring much in the way of 'Crons, unfortunately.
I doubt I'll have more than 500 points done by then. So it'll be my good old Chaos Marines for 40K. Which were the first army I ever painted. So don't judge them too harshly...

Well, I've nearly finished my dwarfs, and will be continuing with my 40k army.
I don't think I'll have much more than 500 points by the end of April either.
But, if I do have 500 points and someone's willing to take the time to teach me the game.... my Imperial guard army (a cross between Tallarn and Taliban) is willing to take anyone on.

I'm quite tempted by the football game... but I might want to just play warhammer.

Aren't dark lances better in general? Unless you make the guns swappable on the models, it's probably not a good idea to have disintegrators.

It might! or everyone will use your list. You should add 1 point to everything so OnG are still better ;)

I've forgotten what's in my 40K list. Probably I've forgotten all the rules too.

I think maybe two rhinos, one chimera, a stormraven and a dreadnought. Easy to kill!

Will be psybolting though for massed S5 storm bolters. And I'll have Solid Squid the vindicare assassin!

Hmmm, that may have been a 1750 list though. I suppose I'll need a 1500 one too.

My space wolves will be finished as well! Well, mostly. And perhaps not with all details on. But still.

They're in two different colour schemes at the time though, vehicles in SW grey and the infantry in the 13th company colour scheme (a bit darker, with some scavenged armour parts). Hope that doesn't matter too much, I won't have time to redo the vehicles before the Bash.

What points of 40K are we gonna use? 1500, 1850, 2000?

Fandir, I don't think I will get everything painted. when my dad died I was in nottingham for 2 weeks so no painting, and since I've been back in Exeter I've not really been up for painting. so my Dark Eldar might not be done, and I still need to do 2 chariots, a wolf riding hero, possibly some trolls and some movement trays for my orcs.

I'll be there.
And I've just received notice that LochNess will be travelling with me. So, I presume (although I can't be certain) that he'll be there Friday night too.
However, should I get hungry, I might eat him at the border.

Talking of travelling with me... I know someone else said they wanted to drive along... I've forgotten who.
I can take 3 (or 4 at a push). So, please PM me if you want a lift.

I'll be leaving Breda at 12 noon on the Friday (and returning on the Tuesday).
If there's room in the car, I can pick people up at 11:30(ish) in Rotterdam too.

PM me if you want a lift, seriously, my brain is mush and you'll be left behind otherwise.

Team UK land in Calais around 4.00pm French time.

So we should be at St Nik around 6 - 6.30.

Can we get in to the club to drop gaming stuff, and then book in to the Hotel.

I don't feel 'on holiday' until the car is parked up for the weekend under the Town Square.

About the same distance from the hotel as the old club, in the opposite direction.

It's a left turn out of the hotel, and then across the roundabout second exit ( I think ) and then down in the direction of that flyover which runs to the railway station over the large road junction, but we don't go that far.

Either what FinlayFR1DAY (edited for shame) said or not at all: have some steel sheeting the right thickness cut to size and use the edges from the modular set to finish them.

No time for steel sheeting! I need to get some trays done by thursday. It's ridiculous that I never have enough proper movement trays.

I'll use a knife and steel ruler then. Thanks!

Nor is mine (mainly because it isn't fully painted)
I think 2500 is one of the point target for lists. I think it will be mostly 2500 or 3000 (not Grand Army) maybe a few 2000 as well

well I got 1x 2k list, 2x 2,5k lists and a 3k list so I'm prepared!
Also did a reprint of the BRB-FAQ..seemed my old print out was version 1.4 instead of 1.5

3 demigryphs ready to ride (in command poses though but will count as normals)
just to get atleast a base of the Hurricanum and still need to build up the Griffon, that will be my target for this evening and tomorrow evening
Friday is groceries (for the lady) and packing time and we will depart around 16:00 so arrival time will be around 19:00 / 19:30

In the far north of the empire there's an ominous tolling of bells, there's an army on the march.
Spies have been sent, most of them never returned, but the ones that have talked about strange creatures walking on two feet like man.
Immediately there was talk about beastmen, but the scouts said that the creatures were anything but ordinary beastmen. They were more like rat-man.
The creatures were marching southwards destroying every village they cross and killing or capturing every empire citizen they encounter.

Can the brave soldiers of the empire put an halt to this menace?

Ah, what can I say: another bash comes and goes, and it was excellent as always.

Soth and Ann proved to be incredibly gracious hosts once more (mucho props and thank-yous again for those two! You rock!), the new gaming club is excellent, the games were fun, the beer was good and plentyful as ever.

Oh, and the company was fairly tolerable as well.
 :engel:

Very much looking forward to the next one, nowadays it's really more about the people than the games for me.
Group hug!

It was another great edition, with lots of good gaming, excellent company, and great hosting by Peter and An.

I had two 40K games, one against Rufus and one against Finlay. My Space Wolves (allied with a few IG troops) narrowly won against Finlay but were soundly defeated by Rufus' Grey Knights. I wasn't prepared for just how much damage they could throw out pe rmodel, S5 storm bolters - eek!

My HE's lost against Finlay's Orcs and Goblins mainly due to my Archmage blowing up in turn 2. Oh, and it was this game that my Great Eagle couldn't kill a goblin doom diver crew, was chased away and panicked a unit of dragon princes in the proces. Rubbish! My swordmasters also panicked off the board, as did my archers. All in all, not a good day to be a HE.

Second and last game of 40K was my SW's and 500pts of IG facing off against Finlay's Eldar. In the beginning my armour saves were as lousy as in the game against Rufus, but the dice came through in the end and I was more lucky in combat. In the last turns we were lucky enough to kill the Archon and Witches in combat and destroy a few transports, winning us the game on kill points (but only very narrowly!). G Space Wolves! Once they reach combat, they can really do a number on enemy units.

Second WHFB game was HE's against Skaven, and this was a defeat again. Turning point was my L4 mage failing to cast a lever 10 spell in turn 3 on 4 dice (rolled 1, 1, 1, 3) and then my L2 mage blowing up again. Going into combat unsupported by magic against a horde of stormvermin is not a good idea! Still the skaven had their bad rolls as well with the HPA being killed by failing something like 4 out of 5 regeneration rolls. Also my archers surprised me this game by charging 3 stands of rat swarms and destroying them in one go.

Last game of the weekend was Willem I and me teaming up against Finlay and Rufus in an Empire vs Orcs battle, in a meeting engagement scenario. We were a little lucky on one flank: one unit of pistoliers killing a wolf chariot and panicking the other all across the board, they were then charged by a pump wagon on 1 wound but the outrider survived and killed it! He then went on to kill a doom diver on that flank. In the middle of the board we had our artillery doing fairly well except for my helblaster exploding (of course), and the blocks of spearmen and halberdiers more than held their own against goblins and orcs respectively. The hurricanum and rerolls to hit helped here. On the other flank a unit of 40 greatswords tore through 6 orcs as if they weren't there.

In the end, Finlay and Rufus managed to fail two animosity test on the worst possible moment and then had both units standing around doing nothing for a turn. This allowed us to keep the savage orcs out of the game and to flank charge the general's unit of orcs with the greatswords, killing 18 in one turn. After turn 4 (or was it 5?) things looked hopeless for the orcs and they conceded. Victory to the Empire!

Now for the Eurobash game : Find a photo that is not a close-up (of models or persons) without a beer bottle in it.
I remember doing that with Brionne after the first edition. It was hard.

Also, I'm really jealous. I really hope I can make it next year.

Skaven playing ping-pong, that was the best photo IMO. Objective marker neh?

No they were playing a serious game when the rest of the army was f*ing around

It's just something I made as unit filler. But a little to big (4x4 small bases). I usually use it as a scenery piece to put the turn counter on.

I had a real blast on my first time on the Eurobash.
Played 5 games
a battle of 2500 pts against Adam's  (Fr1day) Chaos warriors
a battle of 3000 pts against Peter's (Warhammerlord_soth) Ogres
a battle of 2500 pts against Tim's (Lochness) Empire
a battle of 2500 pts against James' (Rufus Sparkfire) Greenskins
and a 4 player game of 6000 pts (together with vincent's (StealthKnightSteg) Empire) against little Phil and big Phil's alliance of high elves and deamons

You guys are real nice people, and I hope to return next year with more Skaven (and more conversions and possibly some forge world models). I shot 148 pictures and will post them soon.

Thank you Peter and your wife for your hospitality.

You know what, this was the first year since we camped at Antwerp we didn't go out drinking... Which I think says something about the quality of the new club.

I think I played 9 games! I don't really play at all when I'm not in the eurobash (The local gaming club runs on the same night as hockey training, and I'd need to get a bus to a skanky part of Exeter to go and play in a church hall) and I had two armies, so I was trying to use them both.

So by the end of the weekend I was a bit warhammered out, so I apologise to Cisse and Willem for rushing them and being a bit of a rubbish opponent in general. Gork promptly punished me and we lost from what I thought was a reasonable position.
Although taking 5 minutes to decide what spell to cast on 3 dice, then failing to cast it anyway was funny!  :engel:

I really enjoyed my game of 40k vs Aldaris (flukey luck for me meant a relatively straightforward win) and the close loss with Cisse. My game with fr1day became a bit bogged down as neither of us are experienced players so we kept on looking up rules.

I enjoyed my game with Cisse. We both had our share of bad luck (the random deployment scenario had my savage orcs on their own on the left, where they spent the entire game trying to charge a chariot which was 16 inches away, my goblins with wizard lord failed animosity, and had to charge some elves in a river, losing their steadfast and running away). I think in the end Cisse was right in saying losing his level 4 so early was very important.

Next year, I would like to perhaps play fewer games, and get in more beer and pretzel board games, and drinking in the town.

For future reference, I spent 285 euros on the whole lot, excluding transport.
I would again like to thank Soth and his wife for being such generous hosts.

Not being able to attend stuff like this is the only negative in being married I've found so far. Really wish I could come, looks awesome.

Fellas come up with a plan as to how I can justify the plane tickets to game for a weekend in Europe while leaving the wife (who's never been to Europe and wants to go) on her own.

The Chaos warriors and those yellowish Ogres looked great, as did that Plague furnace. Big props to whoever owns those armies, fantastic.

Well not going out drinking might be a cause of the weather that was not really good except a few moments and on the departure day. While last year we had stunning weather with almost 30 degrees Celsius.

And I should tip in also on the praise that Peter and his wife needs to get for the great hospitality yet again!

Space wolves, many of them riding bikes Belgian-style
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f207/sparky_sparkfire/Belgium2/25.jpg)

The assassin, Solid Squid, takes up position on an absurdly high ruined building. Meanwhile, Midaski appears to be playing a game in the background!

The longfangs are machine-gunned and the survivors run away (it helps if you shout 'rending' in an incredibly annoying way when you roll a six). Then later the stormraven mindstrikes the space wolf wizard guy
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f207/sparky_sparkfire/Belgium2/30.jpg)

It doesn't look like there are many space wolves there, but they slaughtered that grey knight squad a moment later

Squid cult orcs vs the sinister order of commandant. In a river! Also, I have two beers on the go at once, which is good.

The dreaded Duck of Despair. Duck off!

Duck vs boat. The duck won, and carried on into the goblins. Don't worry though, because a goblin stabby assassin killing-blowed the duck immediately. Then the goblins ate it.

Is this the squid cult losing combat? No idea! Maybe it's my shaman lord avoiding another killing blow from the witch hunter (he also survived a killing blow from a stand-and-shoot, which I think isn't even allowed)

Anyway, I think I lost this game.

Squid cult vs dwarfs

Sneaky scouting dwarfs!

Not many of them... but there are another 50ish miners waiting off the board

I forgot to take any more pictures of this game, but Shavixmir won!

That's all my pictures. It looks like I played 5 games of warhamster, and 2 of 40K (not counting the brief attempt to play 40K with Finlay, which failed because I was being an obnoxious whining fool). I also played Magic with Aldaris and Novorgord, and that game with the foam guns. More gaming than last year by quite a way.

Anyway, I had a great time in Belgium, except when I was feeling ill or grumpy! Thanks to everyone for being nice, and for putting up with my funny dress sense. Though I still think I look OK in a vest.

Terrain that makes you think about it is very good.   Terrain that doesn't is pointless.   The rivers on the board in the game between me an Rufus were quite interesting and had a large impact on the game, something that terrain should do.

I think thought that as we were playing rivers as dangerous terrain that the effect might have been different if we had played them differently.

And yes only your Greatswords where alive, but if we played on they would have perished as well I think!

Maybe, though if they had killed the DGKs there was a chance they would survive against the rest, after all there still were thirty of them or so.
