Dwarf miners, the worst unit in TOW?

We complain about our underpowered units, but I don't think state troops or even pistoleers compare to the level of useless that dwarf miners can achieve.
For 3 points more than an identically equipped dwarf warrior you get the same stat line, a special tax and the ability to ambush or to make a 3" vanguard move.

Is funny and so annoying when game designers completely whiff on the usefulness of something. Somebody thought that 3” was going to be a real game changer.

Or that Ambush was amazing for a unit with terrible movement.

Yeah they're a contender for worst unit for sure, and unlike Warriors they can't even take Shields, but hey, they can take Blasting Charges for +2ppm...
Beware this Ambushing M3" unit with a 6" ranged weapon! :icon_rolleyes:
If they could be taken as Core and Blasting Charges was built into their basecost I'd consider using them now and then for shit and giggles, but at their current cost (14 ppm with Blasting Charges) and as Special to boot? They'll be on the shelf untill they stop being completely pointless.
You know what I can take for 14 ppm instead? Rangers with heavy armour, shields, great weapons and crossbows.
Crossbow > Blasting Charges.
Shield > No shield.
Scout > 3" Vanguard or Ambush
BS4 > BS3
Core > Special
Skirmishers and Move Trough Cover > Nothing...

In earlier editions, a small unit of Miners could still claim a table quarter. Staying alive and earning victory points was OK.
The ambush ability used to be OK, as it could severely threaten enemy shooters who stayed back. I've seen important units get distracted for two turns by a Miner unit, which really helped the main Dwarf army. But now that the Dwarf crossbow shooting got a bit cheaper and they got those supergood 'copters, there isn't much point in trying the Miners' semi-unreliable ambush trick.
