The XVIII Reikland Regiment (painting blog)
« on: May 07, 2007, 05:00:22 PM »
Well,

After avoiding the Empire for years, because allthough I like the Army, I heard it was hard to play and a lot of work to paint, so went on to paint some other models first. When the new edition came out, I decided I'd waited long enough.. so here they are...

Comments welcome

PS : sorry about the format

Very nice work! Good color scheme and well done. My only complaint is the round base for the cannon crew. Thats more or less a preference though so no big deal. Oh and its not the monkey boys so I like that too.

Hey,

Everything looks great! I was pleasantly surprised to see the old handgunners fitting in well with the new ones. I'm not a big fan of flocking the sides of bases... but that is just preference. Quick question, where is that bald head from for the cannon crew?

Great job,
-Josh

Those are beutiful models! So simple... and yet so effective...

Do you have any story behind these guys? They appeared to me at the first glance, like navy troops lol... (cos of the white and blue)

Welcome to the forum.

Your work is very very good.  Of course I hate you now, but it's just jealously so I'll get over it.   Eventually.  :icon_cry:

Very beautiful indeed  :icon_exclaim: what color did you use as a base under the white?   I thought a reiklander army would look great and now I know it does!

I REALLY like this color scheme! Very nicely painted and I love the bases too.

The cannon and the round base is something I wanted to do for mine when I get back onto that side of the hobby (been playing mainly).

White and Blue sort of attract me purely for the reason of being Finnish myself. Was thinking of using that theme for my army but I thought White would be too difficult to paint with my no-skills. (paint AND paint it so it looks good :x)

The color scheme is really simple. I start from a white basecoat, then paint the clothes, block in black over the rest, and work up from there. The new foundation paints help alot as well... :eusa_clap: If you people are interested, i'll post a tutorial... Let me know.... Oh, and my method can cope with the no skills part.... :biggriin:

Thanks.

The look great but one little thing they are using black powder the plain white would look great on normal troops but you might want to make there shirts and pants a little darker other than that great job.

That's the important part! Thank you. Black basecoat may sound strange for some people. You used black and a brush and not the spray again ;-)

I allways said, white basecoat is the key! Many people to only use black undercoat. This painting method works with yellow as well, I'm sure!

first post -- G'day  All

I've been trying to decide on a colour scheme for a "first time"  Empire army , initially i thought of white uniforms , but too hard over black undercoat . Your method is so simple and quick  yet so very effective , thankyou very much for the tutorial , it has made my decision making so much easier .
Please post more pictures of your Empire army when finished .
Id love to see what you do to the rest of them .

I'm also interested in which heads you used for the spearmen , are they the older style bodies with later version heads ?

cheers tom

@thabear : I mix older style and newer style anything : bodies, heads to achieve a seamless transfer between the editions. I als use old state troop heads mixed with spearman heads. :smile2:
