I've never seen the Redoubt figures in person, so can't really comment.
I have actually visited their premises, which is a pretty small unit and I think they just had the one spinning machine on the go.
They are in Eastbourne which is about 20miles from me.

Their stuff is ok - I think it varies a bit from range to range, and what used to get me was their website was poor. It has been improving though.

They should be at Salute in London at the end of March.

As to Foundry, and rufus mentioned their postage charges, - they have a definite sales strategy designed to get you to buy in bulk.
Their 'deals' of 60 foot, or 30 cavalry are usually postage free, and they also do discounted sales when you can buy two or three of these deals for more reductions.

Foundry have a very large catalogue, and they actually rotate the availability of some ranges. I usually create a list of stuff I want from them and buy once a year.
The other thing to do is get together with mates and do a bulk buy together.

However with the advent of Warlord Games over here, and Wargames Factory in the US, and GW's growing plastics kits, we may be seeing a seed change in mini supply .............

Christmas time is Foundry time. I'm kicking myself for not getting one of their giant deals. The one I was looking at worked out to being $1.50 per figure. Although that may be within a normal price range for other companies, it's something to get really excited about with Foundry. Their normal Hordes "deals" are still just under $3 per infantry figure, so the holiday thing was amazing.

If they offered the same type of deals all year round, I would be more inclined/able to buy something. But the holidays are usually bad since I'm spending my money on other people. So their marketing backfires in that respect (for me, at least).

Well, their 'sales strategy' causes me to refuse to buy anything from them.

Therefore, they lose!  :icon_razz:

I suspect they are quite profitable though.

It also surprises me the prices their stuff goes for on ebay. I have wondered whether one could make a profit by buying a 'deal' and splitting it up into auctions of 6-10 minis.

I got an infantry 'horde' recently that was supposedly 60 models and it actually had 67 in it.

I think they will almost certainly be smaller than the GW ones. So, I'd use them as a separate unit rather than mixing them.

The Foundry figures are a bit on the smallish side, as Rufus says. There's also not a ton of variety in the range.

There are a couple of other ranges of Ren. Polish.

The Assault Group did a newer range...

I used to have a bunch of the Foundry figures and somehow ended up with a few Redoubt and/or Essex figures. I'm not sure which they were. They were not as nicely sculpted, but they were definitely larger & more in scale with GW stuff. I suspect they were Redoubt, who seem to make larger figures...

BTW, The Assault Group also just released some Spanish pikemen, for those into that sort of thing...

They look like Kislev, counts as halberds?

I have some 25mm handgunners (I think 8 of them) that look like Kislev, that I might use some day if I can ever get around to making a Kislev themed army.  But if not, I might just theme them around a historical army instead because of their size.

Not exactly, especially not in the winged hussar, haiduk, etc. period. But there are medieval lists covering alot of the major eastern European medieval powers in both Age of Chivalry and the Vlad the Impaler books.

Vlad:

    *   The Kingdom of Hungary - (1280-1526)
    * Moldavia and Walachia - (1330-1527)
    * The Ottoman Turks - (1281-1526)
    * Serbia - (1282-1459)
    * The Bulgars - (1280-1396)
    * Albania - (1286-1479)
    * Byzantium - (1280-1460)
    * The Achaian Franks - (1261-1332)
    * The Grand Company of Catalans - (1302-1388)

And AoC has Poland, Hussites, Russians, Teutonic Order, HRE, and a few that were superseded by the Vlad book as well as lists covering other parts of Europe.

Vlad is awesome. Buy it.

It's better than any warhammer army book by a factor of ninety-four.

It's based on the 5th edition warhammer rules, though with lots of additions and changes. But it's fundamentally the same game.

Much of the problem with 5th came down to army lists and some of the fantasy elements, so both of those are absent from WAB.

They've also added some rules like cavalry counter-charges & such, a fire & flee reaction, etc.

There are a few subtlties to keep an eye out for, though. There is no US or outnumbering, panic conditions are a bit different, etc. SOmeone at the WABforum made a cheat-sheet of all the differences between WAB & WFB7 that helps.

I think that all of the things discussed later in the post were updated on the original post, so that it contains a summary of everything.

There's also a link to a WAB reference sheet that might be useful:

Thank you!  :icon_biggrin:

I'm surprised I haven't noticed that before. Perhaps if they didn't have quite so many separate boards on that forum...
