How it all started  :wink::

"Another modest Empire army coming this way. Only this time it comes with it's greatest nemesis along the same way: Hordes of chaos.
Every painted unit is good news, since it gets thrown in combat asap. And there's a campaign that binds them all ( hm, where did I hear that before?) . Junior ( my son) will contribute his share on the evil side, me - I'm empire of course."

Some basic units first:
Talabheim spearmen, mercenaries, but loyal to their empire commander, nevertheless.

more next time.

Very good armour! How You did it? Something like "Bestial Brown" -> "Boltgun Metal" ?

It looks like brown metallic, perhaps brass and then a wash of hawk torqoise to make the worn effect ( i forget the english word for it)

Very good armour! How You did it? Something like "Bestial Brown" -> "Boltgun Metal" ?

thx for comments.

Armour:

Verdigris:
-paint armour black
-drybrush it with chainmail
-wash it with watered down green ink( not wash)
-drybrush it with dwarven bronze
-wash it carefully with either green, black or brown wash (or with all if you like) on the messy spots
-drybrush/paint the edges and details with gold and silver
-repeat the last 2 steps until you are satisfied.

It looks like brown metallic, perhaps brass and then a wash of hawk turquoise to make the worn effect ( i forget the English word for it)

It's called verdigris.

The second unit of spearmen, mercenaries from Middenheim, who have been painted in the same way as the first unit, I only replaced the green ink with the purple one. .:

I'll combine both units in a bigger one 24men strong. One place reserved for a hero or a unit filler.

More next time.

How old is junior? 'cause if he still young that is very good.

...

He is 13. His main army is actually not one from the WFB - they're space marines, which he plays with at the tournaments. Only recently he got interested in playing fantasy.

Ah, a connoisseur! Yes, those 2 units are indeed ROR and belong to my modest mercenary army of Dogs of war. It's so convenient to mix models from Empire and Dogs of war. sometimes the scale differs a bit, but otherwise it's OK. Fluffwise I use the Regiments of renown models to represent the veteran units, hardened by many battles. The Ricco's spearmen( yes I know they have pikes ) form actually the bodyguard for my inexperienced empire general - Fluffwise and in the game, and they DON'T suck. They're actually making it quite good against marauders and sometimes even against warriors. ( I know greatswords would be better, but they are still in the grey matter form, so I can't use them yet. :icon_biggrin:)
You can see more of my Dogs of war army herehttp://dogsofwaronline.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=544 I just hope they still remember my name there.

Getting busy with the first knight unit: 6 maybe 7 knights of the blazing sun. Instead of traditional black / gold armour I'll make them in metallic blue and bronze, with white and red for the details.
First I assembled horses in that way, that each one of them has different leg-position, so now I have 4 different variants of horses instead of just 2 , if I followed the usual way of assembly.

And this is first WIP photo of the first knight.

Cheers!

Great painted Knights, though the source of the color scheme.. isn't that a Knights Panther instead of a Knight of the Blazing Sun? Looking at the helm ornament

You're only half right...half of the ornament is actually still the blazing sun...look again  :biggriin:

Ok, so the artist is in doubt on what knightly Order to paint... :)
Still like the way the knights came out though, really nice :)

The paint scheme of the knights is ace as is that on the pikemen.  As regards to the name, I recon they could be the knights of the blazing leopards  :-D

Thx for the comments.

More state troops: two detachments of ten men, including unit champions if used as independent units. Still have to paint the feathers on the hats, not sure about the right colours thou.
