Thanx professor,   :::cheers:::

I'm starting to work on the old knights panther, it's gonna be fun to paint some fur cloaks.

Thanx, zak.

I'm allmost finished with the whole unit, I need to repair minor details, flock the base and done. Here's a wip pic of the first knight panther. HOw do the wings on the helmet look? I mean the color combination. Say your final verdict, before I finish the whole unit.

Second knight, wip,  what do you think of the fur?

looking fine, nails are on animals normally darker coloured. but that's a solid 9/10 for that fur  :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

Thanx, yeah, fur is basically the focal point on the oop panther knights, the armor of the rest of the figure isn't good enough to add an excessive amount of highlights, so basically, I tried my best on the fur and the rest I washed with blue wash only and some minor highlighting was added on top.

I painted the nails white to distinguish them from the rest of the fur, and also to keep them in line of the iconic imagery of the order.

So color of the wings could pass? Or not?

Yeah, the fur looks really good!  That is, afterall, what makes them different from every other knight unit!  I also really like how you did the bases.  It looks genuine.  Not over done.  Just enough texture and slight drybrushing.  Good job!   :::cheers:::

I don't like the turquoise on the wing TBH. Doesn't match the rest of the colour.

Fur is great on the other. Your right about the rest of the detail on the models as well. Nothing special.
There are 40 different shades of black, so many fortresses and ways to attack.

So why you complaining!

but..but...they do have nice helmets and crests (or at least different from the plastic ones). come on, show some love you two!

I agree with FR1DAY about the turquoise, for me it's a little random if the color isn't repeated somewhere else.

And, Darius, your log does not make me like the stubby old lances any more. I suppose painting them black helps with hiding their..stubbiness. Great painting all around though, really impressive!

Hm, I'm gonna add some blue hue to it, it will look more uniform. Thanks.

Well, I was referring to the quality of casting, not the design of the miniature, which I like as much as you do. The surface of armor is not as perfect as it is with the plastic knights or metal minis of later date, which means highlights won't look that good. They are still nice figs.
About lances, there are some advantages: if you have time, you can add some ornament much easier than to the plastic ones, because the surface is broader, so you can practice your free hand skills. Like here:

Any way, I will think about adapting the color to look less stubby

That's gorgeous!  Did you paint that, or was it painted that way?  I love the base!  It really sets the context and tells a story.  I'm anxious to see what happens next!  (I imagine it's not going to be very good for the archer... )

I could see using lots of terrain pieces like that to set a battlefield among ruins.  I'm thinking Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc!

Nah, it was painted. But I'll repaint it anyway. I bought the base, which is actually a decor for a fishtank in a pet shop. This one I'll leave it like it is, but I will put it on a larger base. Next, I'm going to add wings to the beast and replace the tail; and other conversions.

I have the same idea about the ruin, I'll add some pillars, rubble and such to make a nice gaming/display terrain. So I'm searching for an economic source of pillars, columns, anything that can be used as a material for ruins, shrine, etc.
