Great Lakes Bash?
« on: May 19, 2009, 04:33:27 PM »

Why should bashes be limited to the salt water coasts? Just thought I'd "test the waters" and see what kind of interest we could get for a "Great Lakes Bash" since I believe there are at least a few of us in the Michigan - Ohio - Western PA area, and possibly some other nearby states.

As far as locations, I know there are game stores with significant gaming space in Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus and Dayton, Ohio as well as Pittsburgh and Erie, PA. I can't speak for any of them hosting an event without talking to someone, but I think most of those shops have at least 6 tables, if not more. So those are just possibilities.

So, any input? Interest?

I would be!

The store I go to in Ann Arbor, MI, has 5-6 tables, and space for more beyond that.

Something a bit more central might be better though.

Depends who's interested & where they are.

I had initially been thinking of something like Toledo or seeing if anyone is around Fort Wayne. Unless there were a lot of PA people, in which case I might push for my own home turf.

Toledo'd be fine for me. Just under 2 hours, so about an hour really... :engel:

Oh, and we can't forget the Canadians. If there are a few in Montreal or Toronto, that's not far away really.

It would be 6 hours for me... I'd love to get in on these souther bashes, but I run into 2 problems.  Problem 1 is that my weekends in the summer until Canadian Thanksgiving are dedicated to selling pies and other sweet doom to people.  Problem 2 is finding something for my wife to do, because I doubt she'd want to stay at home while I go away for the weekend to play toy soldiers.

Yeah, I'm also thinking I would prefer not doing it in the Summer either.

I spoke with my wife last night, and if isn't during pie season, I'm in.

Haus Krannest is a lurker here and one of my local opponents, so I might be able to see if I could rope him into a Bash, too.

So tenatively, thus far, we may have around six people to start.

I think Pistol Pete and Imperial Forge are/were both in the region, at least temporarily. Not sure if they would be available and/or interested, but I'll see about PMing/emailing them if they don't spot this first.

Beyond the attendance issue, I'd like to bring up the format of a potential event. I'd like to do something different than the usual 3 or 5 round tournament style event. Either a campaign or set of linked scenarios, possibly involving multi-player games.

A 2 day event would facillitate that kind of thing better I think... plus some of us would be travelling 6 hours and would like to cram in as much fun as possible!  :::cheers:::

Even for, say, me, 4 hours of driving in one day doesn't sound like fun...

Campaign?  I haven't succeeded in getting to Cleveland to visit Nate K, but a campaign weekend...

Put me in on the potential - coming down from GR with wife.  We'll see how it works out between law school, but we're certainly interested.

OK, centralized location, outside of "pie season" (newly adopted alternative for "Summer"), two days, campaign. I've got a few ideas.

I'm actually thinking maybe like one day campaign and one day one-on-one games so there's a bit of variety and something for everyone. I've got a few ideas, let me ponder them for a little.

I think Nate was even recently seen leading an Empire army. (Not sure if he was leading it in the right direction or off the board... )

As for large, central locations, Toledo or Cleveland would be fine with me. Pittsburgh as well. Possibly Columbus, though that's getting a little long.

I suppose I could ask my dad's employee to fly me down though... hm...
