Porkix dark pixies
« on: November 26, 2012, 03:19:41 AM »
Hello fellow men of the empire,

I have shared quite a while ago my colour scheme for my dark elves on this forum. Here is the progress I have done so far.
After the feedback received here on my test warrior, I am trying to not mix too much purple and turquoise in the same unit but I am still trying to keep these 2 colours for the army.

I hope you guys don't mind me sharing my non-empire stuff.

Please share your comments and feedback.

The warriors 1st rank

The crossbowmen 1st rank

The corsairs (god I hate to rank up these guys, it's impossible!)

And my favourite unit so far, the witches (what a blast to paint but so many very small details!!!!)

To finish, the chariot

Cheers Porkix

Very nice, excellent contrast to the usual black mass of Dark Elves. The spearmen are very sinister, made me think of Tyranids too.

I love it when people have armies with older models being the majority. It adds some variety to the wargaming scene.
I love how you did the skin of the Elves and the color scheme in general. Very different from the common Dark elf armies I see  :::cheers:::

You don't happen to need more of those old corsairs and crossbows do you...?   :engel:

Thanks for the comment guys.

I indeed wanted to do something different from the usual "elves wearing dark cloak and purple/blue/red accent".

Siberius,
As much as I love the old models because they bring back memories. I don't fancy getting more because:
- the corsairs are impossible to rank, like really impossible....
- transport is an issue with metal minis, they tend to chip more easily
- I just bought on ebays 16 crossbowmen... a shame as I like the old models better for crossbowmen... very unlucky timing
You are selling off some of your old DE?

I think the worst models I have are the old witches, gosh they are ugly!

You are very right about that... need to find a solution in the limited palette I am working with... grey wont work... was trying to avoid turquoise and has to be metallic...

I was trying to avoid any gold colour for this army. May be bronze or brass?

Ai, I am trying to sell off my old corsairs (25), with elves (10) and my old crossbows (about 10).

The newer ones are just so vastly different I can't even try and fit them in alas...

I am feeling your pain Siberius, damned these witches are ugly....

Do you have any good alternatives for a cauldron out of the GW model?

Yeap it's been a while I have not update this thread but I have been painting a lot during the past year and half. I would upload my latest addition in the coming few days.

First and foremost, the 2 lords of my host, the supreme sorceress and the dread lord on black dragon.

And more update with the old school cold ones, the new ones are so much nicer models but I rarely used these guys so don't have a good excuse to buy them

My BSB with sword of might!

and the cauldron of blood that I put on wheels so it could technically move

That's a really cool take on the light colored armor scheme.  Most people paint Dark Elves as, well, dark.  I can really see the link to High Elves with this scheme.  The unit are definitely different, yet still...related.  I really like it!

Thanks Mottdon, I was trying to get away from the typical color scheme of the dark elves but still wanted to keep them menacing. I tried to stay away from any warm colors: red, yellow, skin, warm brown to keep that cold and deadly look. I am almost done with the army so their is a lot more pictures coming the next few days

First, some old school crossbowmen. They are so bulky, it's impossible to rank them up :(

a sorceress from gamezone with a nasty surprise behind her back

and finally a master on manticore. It was though to decide how to paint that guy, I spent a long time googling around to find what could fit on this model.

Cheers

Good work! Except...wrong army! ;)
Now go! Ride towards the sun atop these noble steeds
You're our spandex heroes, now fullfil your destinies
And so we turned and rode beyond the castle walls
with shiny codpiece armour that doth cradle our chivalrous balls

Yeap, definitely the wrong army but since I have posted all my empire progress here, I thought I will post the DE as well.

A few old school corsairs and witches I do not use on the battlefield too much (too cumbersome to transport metal figures). I have shown the witches test models before but I have now finish the small unit. I would not extend this unit unless I find more of these minis (not the new plastic models)

Thanks for the encouragement!

Some old school repeater bolt thrower. Not the best sculpt you will ever see for sure

Some more completed and magnetized blocks. I spent quite a bit of time on the shield freehand but I think it does look good at the end

Hi chaps,

some people say, keep the best for last so here is to my point of view my most successful units for my dark elves army so far. I really enjoyed painting these models. I love the sculpts (the new executioners are not as cool that these models).
I hope you like them too!

Nice take on a different colourscheme, I'm trying to start my dark elves at the moment but am struggling with a scheme and theme. I really like the colour you have used on the executioners. I think that is the kind of thing I may go for.
