I came..
Transformers and He-Man, ah good times.
From what I have read and watched of AoS it looks like a good skirmish game, but its either love or hate. Some love the streamlined gameplay and silliness, while others hate it. I have to say that watching battreps of AoS was extremely boring as the maneuvering didn't count for much and pile in combat was a snooze. And the models, even though they are excellent quality the sigmarines looks copy pasted from warmachines cygnar faction just with much more golden surfaces and a more automaton look. But that's just my own perception.
My mate just e mailed me , he said the models are bigger than 40K Terminators..
I don't get any of it
If it sells and makes GW a fortune then I understand,
but I am confused, who would want to play this rubbish
In the short term, lots of people because it's GW. Free rules helped too, (of course I remember better rules as throwaway games in WD). In the long term, probably not as many as GW hopes. But there will still be tons who do, because it's GW. You wouldn't believe how hard people are already working on some sort of system to make it a balanced game. I don't understand why they want to do that, when they could just pick a game that already works the way they want. Only GW would get that kind of a pass.
If people want to play it as is (or close) that's fine. I don't see the appeal (beyond games with the kids) and I suspect it will wear off fast.
That's what I have read too, people love this system when playing with their kids and if it gets more people interested in Warhammer then at the end of the day it is a good thing. And I really hope someone will make a good 8.5th or 9th edition that will become more or less universally accepted as the main ruleset by the community at large, of course not all. I use lonewolf armybuilder, really hoping they or someone can use their program to create a new ruleset based on 8th but with some of the flaws fixed and the armies updated to be more balanced. At this point I would trust Warseer community more to create a good ruleset than GW...
