My new Empire army (Averland)
« on: April 05, 2011, 01:41:28 PM »
Hello all, I'm back...  :smile2: and have started a new Empire project. It's been now more then 1 1/2 years ago since my Hochland army was stolen/lost on my way home from Eurobash 2009. After that, I had a quite busy period: having moved from Rotterdam to Leyden, getting married. You know, the usual stuff that keeps you occupied.

However, now that my life has calmed down again I found new energy to start a new Empire army (my wife also pushes me  :eusa_clap: and she stared a Beastmen army (which I have to paint because she is visually impaired (I'll make a blog on that aswell))) so I thought I'd start a new blog here on my new army.

As the title of the topic already implies. It's a Averland army. I really loved my Hochland army but you can imagine that after more than 3000 points of green/red models, you kinda get bored with it. And as my armies are usually quite themed around the province (and Hochland being a poor province) I though I'd go for a rather rice province. Plus black and yellow just looks wicked

Unfortunately, my models are no longer of the old style. I do have a huge Empire bitsbox which I can use but mostly it will be of the newer models combined with parts of the old style. Afterall, some "Warhammer history" in an army always looks nice.

But not to keep you waiting any longer. Here I will present my armylist. Pictures will follow soon, but I do not have anything painted yet (I do have some stuff assembled which I will show soonish.

Harsh to hear, I would be mortified if this happened to my precious's!

Ask yourself , what is real? 5 sense filtered reality is a very limited perspective.

Looking good. I'd bump the numbers up on those Swordsmen and Halberdiers a bit. Say 10 more halberdiers each and at least 10 more swordsmen in each unit. I look forward to seeing your Crusaders of the Suns Light knights, sounds very interesting.

@ Mr Chumley Warner: I forgot my transportcase in the international train after long delays and detours. I discovered this when I changed trains at the next station. I went immediately to the desk to report it and called to the Belgian railways. Both never found it... So honesty was not on my side... (my address, phonenumber and e-mail where painted on the inside of the box)

@ Delthos: You are right that the new rules favour larger units then the 30 I've picked but at the moment I've got to do with it. Of course, the army could use it, especially when used as a full 8k army. However, most battles I'll be playing will be around 2250 so in those cases it will be fine I think (or hope)

Soon in this topic: my display base where a part of the army will be displayed (WIP)

Well done for making a new start! Good choice of province too.

It was such a shame that you lost the old army.

Welcome back LochNESS, looking forward to see more of your work.

Btw didn't you mean Myrmidia instead of Myrmina?

Hey there Lochness - welcome back

I hope you are going to come visit us at St Niklaas at the end of April - we'll chain your army case to your wrist when we leave .......

Thanks Midaski :) Unfortunately I already had an appointment for that day (it's our national holiday the 30th of april)  However, next year I'll be there. If not, you can come and drag me to St Niklaas.

However, I can show you the beginnings of the display base. This base is for my usage in my displaycabinet where a part of the models will be shown. In the back, I'll make the outskits of an Empire settlement. Using foamboard a row of buildings will be created with in the middle a sort of citygate. But first I'll complete a unit of swordsmen to get used to painting again. More on that later :)

My unit Swordsmen after one night of painting (of course, this still is Work in Progress). It currently has three basic layers of paint on it. For the yellow I started of with Tausept Ochre. Black of course is just Chaos Black (although the Vallejo version) and for silver I repainted the areas with black and applied Boltgun Metal (GW) as start. Tomorrow maybe more updates.

For the models I used the last few remains of the old 5th edition Soldiers of the Empire models (yes Soth, they are that old ;-)) and combined them with the new models. Which gave a quite dynamic unit I think. I've include a small unitfiller of 40x40mm where 3 solders are walking over a mortar that misfired. Some bases also feature bits from the cannon set (such as buckets, cannon balls etc) to add to the overall wealthy and powerful feel of Averland.
