It's less retcons and more awful and inconsistent plot choices and character development.

And the inclusion of bug orgies. And Force Cthulu.

I could go on at length, but will not for everyone else's benefit.

Edit: And most that I know only care about the changes because Lucas makes it impossible to get a previous version. If the Blu-ray set came with all the different copies of the movies (and there are now like 4), no one would care. We only care because you can only get the Lucas approved version.

If you're curious about the nerdrage over Star Wars, watch The People vs. George Lucas -- it's a pretty balanced look at the whole issue, and is funny to boot.  I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, but as a film fan it pisses me off that Lucas has done his level best to erase the original versions of the first three movies from the record, which is bullshit.  Update as you see fit, they're your movies; but for god's sake, don't try to erase the historical record.

I'm an utterly, utterly massive nerd for both the films and the portions of the EU I admit exists (about 40% of it).

And yeah, that's pretty much how I feel about changing the movies.

Also, best football day. USC and MSU lost, and the cupcake was handled appropriately.

If you're curious about the nerdrage over Star Wars, watch The People vs. George Lucas -- it's a pretty balanced look at the whole issue, and is funny to boot.  I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, but as a film fan it pisses me off that Lucas has done his level best to erase the original versions of the first three movies from the record, which is bullshit.  Update as you see fit, they're your movies; but for god's sake, don't try to erase the historical record.

...Of three vastly superior films. And even then, the guy clearly had too much control of his own franchise by the time Return of the Jedi was made.
