Turns out my roomate's sister came by while he was at work to take care of the kids (his kids are visiting for the week from wisconsin, and they arnt really his biological kids but the girl he dated for 6 years had kids from a different relationship and these kids feel that my roomate is their father, even after they broke up.)

I'd hardly call that a good comparison considering he was with this woman who already had kids and was their father figure for 6 years. The kids are 8 and 13.

I find this comment very inappropriate knowing what it feels like for children to be dumped like a fish tank. It's a good sign his roommate apparently knows the difference and still cares about them.

I forget if the biological father ran or is locked up. Theres a photo album on my roomate's desk that says "Dad" with photos of all of them together over the years.

Yes about as inappropriate as preventing someone as important from seeing those kids.

Just to make it clear...I agree that it is bad and can be emotionally scarring for little children if a person they are close with leaves their lives and I applaud how well the mother of the children and the non bio father from Feanors story seem to have worked it out. From my personal experience though it is very often the case that the mother of the children prevents this and even uses the children to hurt the person who left the family. See me too just referring to a personal experience.
